Keon Broxton to SF...who comes back?
nate82 replied to ebmackenzie's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
How is he supposed to be any good defensively if they keep yanking him from position to position? Give him time to learn one. I don't know but I doubt even if they allowed him to learn a position you are looking at Braun at 3B level of defense in the IF. His bat is going to allow him to play there is no doubt in that but his defense is just atrocious. I believe he will be even worse than Braun was at 3B playing any of the IF positions he just doesn't have the quickness or the instincts to play in the IF. His best spot would be 1B but he is shorter than Prince was and that is not going to be good at 1B. His arm would allow him to play RF or LF but again he is just not athletic enough to play either of those positions. He really is a DH player on an NL team. -

Miguel Gomez is an all hit no defense type of a player. His defense at 3B is worse than Braun and his defense at 2B is even worse as he has no foot work which is weird because he was a pretty good catcher at least at throwing base runners out. Miguel Gomez doesn't really have a position and being only 5'10 he is limited to where he can play. He has played in LF but again his athleticism limits him there and while his arm rates out to be a plus he doesn't look comfortable out there when he has played in the OF. He has also played some 1B but the Giants have better players at 1B Chris Shaw and Aramis Garcia both are better defensively at 1B than Gomez is. If the Giants play Gomez at 2B they are going to find that his defense is going to kill any value his bat will produce. -

Depending on Will Smith's health I think a Smith and a prospect from the low minors is what you can reasonably expect for Broxton. The free agent market is flooded with OF's which is going to hurt any trade value an OF will have. I think a Will Smith and Kelvin Beltre / Miguel Gomez is a fair trade for Broxton. Smith won't be ready until after spring training so you are looking at a possible return around May/June or later. I don't see much of anything else that the Brewers could realistically expect in return for Broxton and I don't like the Giants farm system all that much. To me the Giants have the worst farm system in all of MLB right now. -
Both the Yankees and the Red Sox are trying to get under the penalty for being over the salary cap so they are able to sign one of Harper, Machado, or Donaldson. The options for Braun right now is basically the Brewers. Last off season was the last chance the Brewers had in trading Braun and when the Dodgers backed out and decided to go with Puig instead of Braun that ended the Brewers chances of trading Braun. Nearly all of the big market teams are trying to get under the cap penalty to be able to sign either Harper, Machado, or Donaldson. You can cross off the Dodgers, Giants, Angels, Red Sox, and the Yankees off a possible landing spot for Braun unless the Brewers are willing to take on about 75% of Braun's salary and that just doesn't make much sense to do because you are not going to be getting much in return. The best bet for the Brewers is to actually hope that MLB implements the DH in both leagues as this would help the Brewers out tremendously with the Braun situation. The Brewers still won't be able to trade Braun but at least they will be able to get him out of the OF and improve the defense there even if it is a very small one with moving Santana to LF.

Broxton to the Giants makes more sense than Braun possibly a Smith+ deal for Broxton. The trade market for OF's is going to be depressed this off season due to all of the depth and quality of this year's free agency class.

I think the Brewers will resign Swarzak and Sogard. Sogard is someone that Counsell will want back and Swarzak helps lock down the Brewers bullpen probably should get another pitcher to take over the 7th from Barnes. Probably sneak in and sign Addison Reed his BB/9 increased by a lot this year but otherwise he looked to be about what he was in the previous two years. Barnes/Reed/Swarzak/Knebel would be a nice bullpen. I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers go after either Darvish or Arrieta though I think the Rangers resign Darvis and the Cardinals will sign Arrieta. The biggest thing that sucks for the Brewers is that there are so many FA OF's it is going to be almost impossible to trade Broxton for a decent return. If the Brewers decide to trade Broxton it would be selling at an extremely low point as there are more than enough options in FA to basically kill the OF trade market.

And as expected reduced to one game.

It wasn't even intentional you can see he was going to make a play on the ball carrier. Unfortunately he hit him with his helmet and he wasn't celebrating. After the hit you can see his reaction and him pointing at the sideline and then at Adams for medical attention. As Rodgers even said: “He is one of the hardest hitting players in the NFL. ... I don’t think he was intentionally trying to hurt (Davante). But he did give him a good whack and unfortunately ‘Te got knocked out.”
-
Not really. The ref should have blew the whistle 3-5 seconds before the hit as forward progress was stopped. Unfortunately the bit came as Adams was going down. If he wouldn't have been going down that hit is fine. You are basically talking about a second here if the hit happens 1 sec earlier it doesn't look as bad.

Brewer Ticket Stategy for Cubs Series at Miller Park
nate82 replied to Austin Tatious's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
This is probably the best approach especially if you only package Cubs games with weekday games only. Doesn't fix what the thread is about but is really the best option for the Brewers and Brewer fans. The more the Cub fans buy the better as that gives the Brewers more money to spend on other areas. -
Well the Bucks now have two open spots for their 2-way contracts with Moore leaving and Koenig being placed on waivers. Hopefully Koenig passes through waivers he probably should but now that the Bucks have two spots open for their 2-way contracts who are they going to pick up? http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/nba/bucks/2017/09/21/milwaukee-bucks-request-waivers-former-uw-star-bronson-koenig/691035001/

Favorite and Least Stadium Besides Miller Park
nate82 replied to BrewCrewBlueDevil's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I absolutely hate watching a game at Chase Field here in AZ. It feels so empty even when it is full and the game just feels like it is so far away. Everything else from the food and other things around the stadium are cool. I just absolutely hate watching a game there. -
Phillips throw was the second hardest throw from the OF in the majors since the info was started being tracked in 2015. I wonder how hard Vlad was throwing in his prime.

How bad has the offense been in the 2nd half?
nate82 replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
If the NL had the DH you could rotate Braun, Thames, and Aguilar at 1B and DH that would be ideal with the current roster and then just play the younger players in the OF. Looking at FA this off season the cheapest options to potentially upgrade 1B would be Frazier and I am not sure that is really an upgrade. The best upgrade is probably just platooning Thames and Braun at 1B and seeing what you can get for Aguillar in the off season. Braun really does need to move to 1B if the NL is not going to have the DH next year. Braun is just not an OF anymore or at least not an everyday one. Thames is a Stearns guy and I don't see him trading Thames this coming off season. Aguillar though could be moved but I am not sure what the Brewers could get for him in a trade probably not all that much maybe someone in the low minors but that is about it. If the NL had the DH I would go after Moustakas and have him play 3B and move Shaw to 1B and have Braun and Thames platoon at DH. Which then you could move Santana to LF and have an OF of Brinson, Phillips, and Broxton. That is a rather fast OF other than Santana in LF defensively and this would be a rather big upgrade for the Brewers both in the OF and in the IF in terms of defense. I think you could possibly get Moustakas at about $15-18m annually for 5-6 years which the last three years is more than likely dead money so you would have to be confident in the Brewers competing in the next 1-3 years as the final 2-3 years on that contract are probably going to be brutal. -
Vehicle hotspots wouldn't work for you as the hotspot is being created by a connection to a cell tower (usually). Verizon is usually the provider for this.

I purchased a new WiFi router with three antennas and "beamforming technology". I get a little better range and speed, but not much. The extender doesn't work really well either. I get decent download speed from it (5-10 Mbps, depending on how far away I am), but basically no upload. Not sure if that means it's a defect. I think the main culprit is that it is a long rectangular masonry building with a concrete stairwell in the middle of it. The concrete stairwell blocks the WiFi signal from getting from one end to the other. Because of that, I can't place the range extender that far down the hall because it loses signal. Does a range extender on top of a range extender work? And is there any way to set up a second WiFi router as a range extender without having an ethernet cable input? Everything I read says that you have to have an ethernet input to use a WiFi router as a range extender. Can't/don't want to run 75' of ethernet cable down my hall. Oh, here's the fun part - I tried purchasing a second cable modem and connecting it to the cable in the bedroom; thought that would do the trick by just setting up a second WiFi router. I have internet, but it automatically goes to xFinity's activation page (you have to activate a cable modem if you purchase one yourself). But... you cannot have more than one cable modem on your account, or they will charge you double for internet. Now let me get this straight... you can add second/third/fourth cable boxes for $10/month, but you cannot add a second cable modem without doubling what you pay for cable? Seriously?? For the modem you are basically adding a second network to your house so that is a little bit different than a cable box for TV. What I mean by this is that you are adding a second connection at the same speed that you are getting with your first connection. Unlike a TV box where you are getting the same information regardless if you have 1 or 10 with a second modem you are basically adding a new cable line. As for your router that is concerning that you are not getting a signal throughout your house. It sounds like you are getting some interference somewhere probably from other electronics or other wifi networks in your area. You might want to try this: https://eero.com/

Not small-town mentality. What happens when Irving leaves is Giannis going to stay when he is the only superstar on the team or is he going to leave? I would rather risk losing Giannis walking by building a team that can consistently win than risking Giannis and Irving both leaving and the Bucks are then left with nothing but playing the lottery game. I believe the Bucks need to continue on the course that they are on and just build a winning franchise.

If the Celtics-Cavs deal falls through it looks like the Bucks were the runner up to the Celtics and it looks as though the Bucks will be getting Irving. While I like the idea of getting Irving I don't think he will stay with the Bucks all that long and I wouldn't be surprised if he asks for a trade at some point. I think Irving when he hits free agency will go to either the Knicks or the Lakers. I don't want to see the Bucks giving up Brogdon and Middleton for a short term fix that is going to cause a long term problem.

Matt Garza - Significant Trade Asset??
nate82 replied to Jose Cardenal1's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Not even close to what I was saying. Of course a team of 5 Clayton Kershaw's would beat a team of 5 Garza's over the course of a season your runs saved would be lower compared to Garza's. That is not the comparison I was making it was replacing Garza with the next available person Woodruff in this case and putting Kershaw or whoever at the top. You wouldn't give the least amount of starts to your best pitcher. If you were to put Kershaw as a #5 even Kershaw's win expectations for a season would go down as he is not getting as many opportunities as your #1 pitcher. On average your #5 pitcher gets about 20 starts a year which if you had Kershaw replacing Garza would mean you are missing about 1/3 of Kershaw's value to the team. So if you are really replacing Kershaw with Garza as your #5 starter then yeah your win expectation is not going to go up all that much as you are missing about 1/3 of Kershaw's value. -
Matt Garza - Significant Trade Asset??
nate82 replied to Jose Cardenal1's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
So what is it based on then? How did you get the 1 win? That's a serious question. Saying it's *not* based on WAR (which would actually be something to back up a claim) is zero proof of something being true. And the previous statement about Sale, with nothing else considered, is borderline baiting as I truly believe you realize that's an incredibly flawed conclusion to derive from that. I really am interested in your reason behind the last statement as well. Has this been proven? For instance, David Price has faced on average 886 batters the past 7 years, compared to Mike Trout averaging 685 plate appearances the past 5 years. So ace starting pitchers affect significantly more at bats than an everyday position player does. Additionally, adding an ace to your staff replaces your 5th best starter, whereas adding a centerfielder replaces your best centerfielder. I'm not saying that's proof you're wrong, but I definitely wouldn't jump to the conclusion that you're correct on that point unless you have some study proving otherwise. Jose Altuve has a wRC+ of 167 which translates to about 8 wins on the year note this is not taking into account Altuve's defense lets just look at his offensive value. Now lets look at Chris Sale who is having a phenomenal year for his K/BB ratio which has the highest correlation to wins for a pitcher at about .7. If we take Sale's K/BB ratio and put that into context he is about a 6 win pitcher. Now just offensively alone we are looking at a +2 for Altuve. Now lets look at Villar who has a very pitiful wRC+ of 62 Villar is generating about 1 win and I am being generous here with this 1 win. Now lets look at Garza who has a K/BB of 1.86 which gives us a 1.5 win player. Switching out Villar for Altuve gives us more predicted wins than removing Garza with Sale. Now we are not just removing Garza from the rotation because why would Sale be a #5 in your rotation? Same with Altuve you wouldn't be hitting Altuve lower in the batting order. Both are going to get more opportunities but Altuve's opportunities offensively alone is worth more than Sale. Generally speaking offense is worth 48% of a teams wins, pitchers receive about 36% and defense is about 16%. So offense carries more weight if you replace a bad offensive player with a good offensive player you should see your win expectations to increase significantly while replacing a bad pitcher with a good pitcher is not going to increase your win expectations all that much. Maybe 1 win is to low but I wouldn't put it past anywhere above 3 wins being added to the team as a whole. You are just not replacing a bad pitcher with a good pitcher you are really replacing a bad pitcher with an average pitcher. Going from Woodruff to Garza is not that great of an improvement in the grand scheme of things. Moving everyone down one spot gives you what a +2-4 win expectancy improvement. So adding Sale would bring the Brewers from an 80 win team to about a 82-86 win team assuming a margin of error of about .05. Does that make the Brewers a playoff team? I don't think it does as you are just going from about .500 team to an about above .500 team. Adding someone like Altuve to replace Villar would actually bring you closer to 84-88 wins with the current team still not really enough to make the Brewers a playoff team but they are closer adding Altuve than they are by adding Sale. I know this sounds weird and is counter intuitive to everything that everyone says about baseball but offense just has a higher correlation to winning than pitching does. -
Matt Garza - Significant Trade Asset??
nate82 replied to Jose Cardenal1's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
The Red Sox went from a 90 win team to a 90 win team this off season. So 0 wins added from the addition of Sale. So yes if the Brewers got Bumgarner they would only improve by about 1 win as nothing else for the Brewers is changing and no this is not based on WAR. Now if you said Villar or Broxton would be replaced by Trout or a Harper level of talent then yes you would see a more dramatic increase in your expected wins. Positional players have more of an impact on a teams wins than starting pitchers for obvious reasons. Plus you are not replacing Garza for whoever Garza would be replaced by. Even moving down one pitcher to the next you are gaining at most 1 win over the season. Take 2011 for example the Brewers expected wins didn't change when they acquired Marcum and it only changed by about 2 wins when they acquired Greinke. That team without Greinke or Marcum was about an above 500 team with those two acquisitions it bumped the Brewers up to about an 88 win team. So they went from an 86 win team to an expected 88 win team and beat the expected by 8 wins mostly due to their offense was better in 2011 compared to 2010. I honestly don't even know where to begin with this...you are approaching Briggs territory of foolishness. Please explain how it is foolish.
