  1. Because the Phillies want to get some prospects back so they can make another trade if they need to after making the Arenado trade. Trading Bohm for Williams doesn’t accomplish that.
  2. Stott is not available. The Phillies are trying to make room for Arenado. Supposedly Arenado is the #1 target for the Phillies. So I think that may close the book on a Williams trade to the Phillies.
  3. The Bucks are really playing with a 3-man bench?
  4. If Locke could be more like Tolzien this team would be better. I think they win the USC game if anyone but Locke is playing QB in that game. Hopefully Mettauer is the next man up and he can be something closer to Tolzien. Trech and Dupree look to be really good and a solid foundation for next years offense. Hopefully the Badgers can get Eugene Hilton Jr. in next year though he does have a scholarship offer from Georgia but has verbally committed to the Badgers. Freshman WR's normally don't start all that often but I think Hilton could be the exception here. Pauling and Anthony should also return for their Sr years as neither look to be a round 3-5 picks. Pauling maybe but he has had a lot of drops this year and he is on the verge of being a 5th round pick but he is probably more of a 7th round pick at best right now. Anthony would maybe get a look as an undrafted rookie maybe. I think there is enough talent next year to compete a bit if the QB and OL play improves. There have been times this year where the OL has shown life and other times where it is just awful. Give this team another year and I think the OL play improves. The question is will the QB play improve also? This is why I think after the Oregon game the Badgers have to go with someone other than Locke to see what they have for next year. Locke is not the answer for next year time to move on and let him transfer. I want to see what Mettauer can do against Nebraska and Minnesota.
  5. So much garbage on this team. Trent absolute garbage, Prince flaming garbage, Connaughton lol garbage, Green and Jackson developing garbage and Wright garbage can pretending to be a recycling bin.
  6. That may be his best position but I don't see him as either of those positions. I think he is below average there defensively and wouldn't be an improvement for the Phillies. I doubt they would like him more than Frelick and the extra year of control wouldn't be as much of a deal to the Phillies. Their window is now so having Black for an extra year doesn't really do much for them. It means more to the Brewers than it does to the Phillies. With Rhys coming back he is probably going to play more DH than he will at 1B. That means you need someone to play more at 1B. I think 1B is more of a problem than 3B is and I think the Brewers are just going to keep Ortiz at 3B for now. The Brewers could also trade for Edman or someone similar to play 2B/3B if they want to move Ortiz to SS and keep Turang at 2B. I think the more likely outcome is that Turang moves back to SS and Ortiz stays at 3B and the Brewers trade or sign someone at 2B. A trade for Bohm helps move this along as the Brewers also need a 1B as I don't believe the Brewers see Hoskins as an everyday 1B. I also believe that Hoskins is going to get the majority of starts at DH at least 90 games worth with Yelich and Contreras splitting time when Hoskins is playing 1B. I think Hoskins will only play about 20 games at 1B next year for the Brewers which leaves open 140 games. Bohm playing 120 games at 1B and the rest at 3B would be fine. There are enough starts at 1B for both Bohm and Hoskins on the team.
  7. For Bohm I am going to repeat what I said in the Devin Williams trade thread. It all depends on how the Brewers see Bohm. Do they see him as 1B or a 3B? If they see him as a 1B then he has less value around $10mm in surplus value but if they see him as a 3B then he has around $15mm in surplus value. I believe the Phillies see him as a 1B which reduces his surplus value to about $10mm for them which is right around what Williams is worth. If you go by BTV then Williams has about $11mm in surplus value and Bohm as he is evaluated now as a 3B is at $22mm which I completely disagree with. I don't believe Bohm has that value and he is closer to $15mm than he is to $22mm as a 3B. They have Williams at $11mm which is about right I would raise that to about $12-15mm so I am not all that concerned about Williams value. Black doesn't really fit with the Phillies. I think the Phillies would prefer Frelick over Black or anyone really over Black. I just don't see the value for the Phillies here for Black when they already have two DH's in Schwarber and Castellanos. Black is just not a good enough OF to put in LF or RF. Something like Williams and Frelick for Bohm, Aroon Escobar and Jean Cabrera. This is basically two trades in one as it would be Frelick for Bohm and then Williams for Escobar and Cabrera. I like Cabrera more than Abel so went with Cabrera over Abel here and Escobar is a very interesting and exciting 2B/3B. I don't think the Phillies would want to trade Escobar but he is someone I would want in exchange for Williams. Cabrera is very similar to Freddy Peralta and Abel is also similar to Peralta in terms that both have a hard time finding the plate. Abel has regressed again with his command and that is two straight years in a row where his command has regressed 2023 and 2024. This seems like it is in favor of the Phillies but I believe both Escobar and Cabrera will be excellent MLB players especially Escobar.
  8. Them being a 14.5 point underdog is not surprising when the only thing that is working on offense is the run game loosely speaking. So Oregon really only needs to focus on stopping the run and daring Locke to beat them in the air which I don't believe will happen unless something catastrophic happens to Oregon. I would be fine being wrong on this but I don't believe Locke has it in him to play at a level needed for the Badgers to win this game.
  9. The Badgers offense in the recent past just looking at PC here were run on 1st 2nd and 3rd down no matter the distance. Then if that doesn't work for the first 6 possessions try run, run, 5-yard pass routes on 3rd and long. All while the defense is stacking the box on first and second down. Oh an your best receiver your TE guess what he will just block because that is what TE's do. There were players on PC teams that could have helped the QB out by moving them around. Ferguson for example was a really good TE and PC hardly ever moved him from the main TE spot and he was usually in the traditional TE spot where he was expected to block the majority of the time. If he would have just moved Ferguson out in the slot a few times he would have made it a bit easier on his QB. PC and his offense never made it easy for the QB. It was always putting the QB in the most difficult position to succeed which was completely different from the HC's before him especially for Alvarez. The Badgers used to put their QB's in the best position to succeed and then the we are a running team and that is all we do PC came along. This is where the Badgers are a running team and that is all we do non sense seems to have started. If you pass the ball that is not Badgers football non sense is just gross and a fallacy. The Badgers before PC were more of a balanced team and then PC came a long and implemented the myth of the only way to win at WI is to run the ball. The hiring of PC set this program back by at least 10-years if not more. The only good decision PC made was hiring Leonhard everything else was an absolute disaster of horrible decisions. A run heavy offense just doesn't work if you don't have a QB who can at least challenge the other team. The Badgers haven't had that at QB for a long time. Mertz at one point looked like that QB who could do that but then he just regressed after his first season starting and PC basically just gave up and went oh well I tried to get a good QB what do you want me to do? Locke is an absolutely horrible QB for what the Badgers are trying to do an would be an absolutely horrible QB in Alvarez system also. You can't have an absolutely horrible QB and playing as a run first team. The Badgers are still a run first team it is just not as heavy as it once was. If you put in a better QB this teams record would be better. If you want to have a run first offense you need the QB to actually be a threat either in the run game or by making passes. Stave wasn't going to beat you with his arm alone but he was able to make passes. Hornibrook was a better QB than Locke just let that sink in for a moment. Hornibrook was a better QB than Locke and Hornibrook didn't even have the arm that Locke has. Locke has a better arm than Hornibrook but is an absolute caveman moron when it comes to decision making at the QB spot and Hornibrook wasn't that smart either at QB. QB play is extremely important in a run heavy offense. The Badgers just haven't had that QB for awhile now and defenses have been daring the Badgers to throw on them to beat them and the QB hasn't been able to consistently beat cupcake teams let alone a semi competent defense. Even if there is no one better than Locke on the roster right now I would still go with someone else just to make the change and to start on evaluations for next year and getting someone some game time experience. Locke is not the answer at QB for the Badgers.
  10. The Rays.
  11. Not sure what you are talking about with the Bears. Unless you were drinking the cool aide. Most Bears fans I know were hoping for a 7-10 or 8-9 season this year and realistically that is where they were and are. Not sure what this strike midnight means. They have played good against some bad teams but haven't really played all that well against average or above average teams. Also nearly their whole starting OL is injured and they are missing their best OL in Wright for some time now. The Bears were never going to be a contending team. The Vikings to me are still a mystery as they are not as good as their record indicates they are.
  12. Pipeline states nothing of the sort about the Brewers signing anyone or going to sign anyone. The tweet came from Curt Hogg who isn't affiliated with MLB Pipeline and is only reporting on his sources not MLB Pipeline. I haven't seen any rumors that the Dodgers have even committed to anyone in the '25 IFA. This is the Dodgers so there should be some rumors floating around and since there are not they are probably ear marking that money for Sosaki. It is probably why they left about $2mm in IFA bonus money just sit there for '24. They wanted to have some money left over in case he was posted before the '25 signing period so they could jump in and sign him. So no it doesn't depend on what they already have committed to other IFA as they haven't committed at all to anyone.
  13. I think this is the real reason Leonhard didn't get the job. He didn't want to make the changes or didn't want to take a step back and look at the team and make any kind of changes. I believe Mac wanted to make a change from Chryst and to go in a whole new direction and Leonhard wanted to keep everything like it was. I disagree here at least on the offensive side of things. I don't think Leonhard would have looked at the program and thought there would need a change or would have tried to change things on the offensive side. It would have been 100% run dependent on the offensive side and that just doesn't work. It is the same problem I have with a majority of Bears fans and yes Badgers fans are 100% like Bears fans. This horrible idea that the Badgers can only be a run offense and heavily rely on defense is just dumb. Bears fans haven't gotten over the '85 Bears with Payton and that defense. Badgers fans haven't gotten over the Alvarez years where it was run heavy with a good defense and a few years after that. It is like some fans are like the program has to be 100% run heavy and a dominant defense and that is the only way for the team to win. It is just a horrible way of thinking and I believe Leonhard had bought into that. He would have just brought in some below average offensive coordinator who would have ran a run heavy offense. Defensively this team is probably a bit better with Leonhard but I don't think he gets the talent to come in as he like PC didn't like the transfer portal. You have to play the transfer portal game if you don't then you are losing out on talent. While I really like Leonhard I don't think he would make a good HC. He is a great DC but as a HC he would just be average to below average and I believe that is why he hasn't been mentioned all that much for a HC position.
  14. Sasaki situation is different than the Dodgers signing Ohtani. Sasaki is just an older version of the players who will be available for the 2025 IFA. This is good for the small market teams but this is only good if the player just wants as much money as they can get. Even with the Brewers having one of the highest international pool money for 2025 I still don't believe they have a chance at Sasaki even if they were to go after him. Why? Because the Brewers haven't spent a majority of their pool money on one player in a while now. You have to go back to Gilbert Lara where the Brewers have spent the majority of their pool on one player. This would also go against the Brewers philosophy in the last few years where they have spread the money around to as many players as they can and only leaving a small amount of pool money. Also I just don't see Milwaukee as a destination that Sasaki would want to go to. Los Angeles, Seattle and New York are just far more attractive for various reasons to someone like Sasaki. If anything I think the Mariners or A's will probably be more aggressive with Sasaki but still I think the Dodgers win out here and they spend all or 90% of their bonus pool on Sasaki. The Dodgers could trade for up to $3mm in bonus pool money but they would have to give up a really good prospect or two to do so. I just don't see the Brewers as a serious destination for Sasaki. Here is the pool for 2025: $7,555,500 Pool Cincinnati Reds Detroit Tigers Miami Marlins Milwaukee Brewers Minnesota Twins Oakland Athletics Seattle Mariners Tampa Bay Rays $6,908,600 Pool Arizona Diamondbacks Baltimore Orioles Cleveland Guardians Colorado Rockies Kansas City Royals Pittsburgh Pirates $6,261,600 Pool Atlanta Braves Boston Red Sox Chicago Cubs Chicago White Sox Los Angeles Angels New York Mets New York Yankees Philadelphia Phillies San Diego Padres Texas Rangers Toronto Blue Jays Washington Nationals $5,646,200 Pool Houston Astros St. Louis Cardinals $5,146,200 Pool Los Angeles Dodgers San Francisco Giants https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2025-international-signing-bonus-pools-for-each-mlb-team/
  15. Because the Brewers only have about $100k in 2024 international free agent bonus pool money left. He is not going to sign for that. He will more than likely be posted before Dec 2nd which means he will count towards the 2024 bonus money. He is going to sign with the Dodgers it is like a 95% certainty with the Orioles getting a 4% chance then 1% for everyone else with $1mm or more left. If he is posted after Dec 2nd then the Dodgers drop to like 85% favorites. The Brewers also haven’t given 1 player the majority of their signing pool bonus money since Gilbert Lara. So it is very unlikely the Brewers sign him like sub less than 1% chance. https://www.mlb.com/news/roki-sasaki-faq#:~:text=The Chiba Lotte Marines%2C Sasaki's,an international amateur free agent. https://apnews.com/sports/mlb-2024-remaining-international-signing-bonus-allotment-list-5de31a9831cd49ca46077cf98d031890
  16. Depending on when Sasaki is posted he may fall under the 2024 IFA money. Which only a few teams have money left over. I don’t believe the Brewers have any bonus pool left over for 2024. So if he is posted before Dec 2nd the Dodgers followed by the Orioles have the most to give to him.
  17. CHL players are now eligible to play in the NCAA. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/42254200/ncaa-makes-canadian-hockey-league-players-eligible-div-i
  18. Any tax cut will favor the wealthy. Prices will fluctuate and it doesn't really matter who won or lost the election. There are probably a few sectors (Oil) that will have a better outlook but that would be a few years later and won't be instant. Housing and groceries are probably going to increase and neither candidate has a good plan in reducing either. Yeah mortgage rates are not going to drop all that much if at all. Even with the most recent rate cut today I don't expect mortgage rates to dip. We may see a small dip back down to sub 7% but it will then go back up again.
  19. Hopefully the reverse HR Derby curse happens for Wilken!
  20. Mortgage rates are set to increase over the next couple of months.
  21. The Athletic also has a quote from league insiders that he wants to stay at SS but will play a different position if there is a strong offer from a team that is in a winning situation. I think winning means more to Adames than anything else. Obviously he will still want to get paid but if it was the Angels vs the Brewers I think he takes the Brewers offer even if it is less.
  22. The Doug Melvin special!!!! 5-years $100mm!!!! That is basically the discount the Brewers would need to get. Probably something where Adames could opt out after year 2 with a buyout of $10mm or something like that.
  23. That guy is extremely salty and a bit unstable mentally. I would take whatever he says with a really fine grain of salt.
  24. Turang wins 2B NL Gold Glove.
