  1. Defense and calling a game - if you put any trust in catchers ERA stat, you would agree with this. Grandal 4.95 ERA Pina 3.68 ERA That difference more than makes up for the extra offense Grandal gives. Now whether you give any credence, I don't know....
  2. Burnes has been so awful he is quickly pitching himself out of the picture. He just got demoted to AA, and is now nothing more than a pie-in-the-sky candidate to even make the big leagues next year. Nelson is in danger of non-renewal and still unable to pitch. I think Stearns may use Davies as part of a deal for a #2-3 starter over the winter. I think it's time to stop thinking that Davies has any value at all. People keep throwing his name out there as a trade candidate, but who on earth wants him as anything more that rotation filler, and only if necessary. We'd get nothing for him, zero. I agree. That is why you can put his name in ink for the rotation or bullpen for us in 2020. Davies has more value to us, then what we can get for him in a trade.
  3. Then it will be interesting to see if this ends up being the same scenario for Brewers unsigned selection LHP Dan Wirchansky who was a senior from Pace University. It seems like if a senior doesn't have to sign with the team that drafted him even if a full pick value offer is made, and then is eligible to immediately sign with other teams after the signing deadline then it seemingly presents both possible tampering and leverage issues? A team that realizes it is going to be short on it's bonus pool could start reaching out to "advisors" of some of the better seniors drafted in rounds 11-40 and start negotiating an offer for "if they were to go unsigned", wink, wink. If the pick counts against bonus pool, then I would think it would have to be a team that has extra bonus pool remaining.
  4. I think they put a cap on pitchers on the 26 man roster of 13. Which would be what most NL clubs run anyways. So maybe AL teams would select a bullpen guy in the rule 5 draft.
  5. 11-4 versus Pitt. At least we have four more games versus them left in the season.
  6. For being in a hitters paradise, the PCL, Wilkerson has done very well for San Antonio overall (not so well lately). I hope if the Brewers are out of it he can get some starts in a row in September.
  7. How many chances has CC given Anderson to get more than 15 outs? Last year it was wise to pull a starter after five. This year if the starter is going well, I would rather him go through the third time in the lineup, versus an extra inning from the bullpen roulette we have. Anderson has made 18 starts this season. He's face more than 18 batters 13 times. I know it's only 53 batters, but numbers confirm that he's significantly worse the 3rd time through. That 6.55 ERA reminds me of our bullpen though.
  8. He only has two AAA starts under his belt. Maybe they don't want him to have a bad outing knowing that he would then be sent down right away. Keep his confidence up.
  9. How many chances has CC given Anderson to get more than 15 outs? Last year it was wise to pull a starter after five. This year if the starter is going well, I would rather him go through the third time in the lineup, versus an extra inning from the bullpen roulette we have.
  10. Would first ever 50/30 club lock him in for MVP? I feel like it would have to, but Bellinger is also having a crazy good season and is better defensively. usatoday article on just this. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2019/08/06/christian-yelich-cody-bellinger-nl-mvp/1930338001/
  11. It's why Gamel should have been dealt before the deadline. Which team would have been looking to add Gamel as a starter? As that is the only way we would have gotten a return of more than what he is worth to the Brewers (now and future). First year arby shouldn't be too costly.
  12. I don't really think you can say he is too negatively effected because he gets rusty. He gets pretty regular at bats. He has ~ 259 plate appearances. So that is approx 14+ at bats a week.
  13. He seems to make more than his share of rememberable plays, but when you look at it he is still just a .246/.331/.379/.710 player.
  14. Do not arby Shaw. Not paying $5M. If can sign for less if nobody wants him, that may work. Which means you need a 3B. Not much on free agent market that are productive and in our price range. So default keep Moose at similar money, maybe Todd Frasier, maybe Shaw. With 26 man roster, probably exercise Thames option. For sure if Shaw is gone. I would think decline Jeffress for $4.3M option (don't know if buyout?). I don't think he will get much interest on the open market - then re-sign for a base $2M, with incentives to $5M. I think spend Grandal money on starting pitcher and go with Pina/Nottingham/Frietas Roll with Arcia at SS at first year arby cost. Incentive $ for every hit to RF, would straighten him out quickly. Starters: Premium FA Signee, Woodruff, Davies, Anderson ($8.5M option?), Lyles (est. $5M), Suter ...... Burnes, Peralta, Houser, Faria, Chacin (re-sign cheap if he gets no interest?)
  15. The Athletics have struck a deal to acquire righty Tanner Roark from the Reds, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (Twitter link). Outfielder Jameson Hannah is headed to Cincinnati in return. I wouldn't have minded Roark. But I don't think I would have traded a second round pick that has been doing okay for him.
  16. Yes, but Pina at catcher / Grandal at 1B, potentially means savings runs for the pitcher with Pina and potentially rejuvenating Grandal - as they have been treating him like a rented mule this season. Give him a few days off from behind the plate, would probably help his batting.
  17. I chatted them and told them I give them a week to get it fixed or I am leaving - so if they are actually tracking what they are losing hopefully it gets heard. Also asked how much we are getting refunded and they said finance hasn't determined that yet.
  18. I think to say he has only mashed for six weeks in AAA is disingenuous. Yes, the PCL is a hitters paradise. But, I think the Southern League is pretty average for hitter vs. pitcher stats, right. So his .875 OPS in AA is pretty darn good before being promoted. His whole season has been very good, not just six weeks.
  19. Pittsburgh promised him a rotation spot. So the Brewers sticking him in the pen probably wasn’t his first choice. Milwaukee had a club option on Lyles. If I remember correctly, the Brewer's option was actually for more than what he ended up signing at Pitt for. Wasn't it $3.5M?
  20. Agreed. If I am reading BRref correctly, in his small sample size, Pina has a 3.73 ERA and Grandal has a 4.97. If that actually held up, you would more than make up the lost offense with better pitching.
  21. I would assume - The Blue Jays really scouted and loved the prospect(s) from the Mets - much more than anyone else. The rest of baseball front offices didn't like Stroman as much as assumed, and the Blue Jays were not getting any better offers.
  22. Passing those 3 teams still leaves them outside the playoffs. They have to pass the 3 of the Brewers, Nationals, Cards, and Phillies. Not saying they cant do it but having to pass that many teams is a big deal. They do have an 11 games stretch against the Yankees, Nationals, Phillies and Dodgers. Their August is pretty tough. With the aforementioned games they also play the Giants 6 times, the Rockies 6 times, the Brewers 3 times and then end with a 4 game Dodgers series. Then they have an incredibly easy looking September with just one series against a team .500 or better. If they pass three teams (tied with SF) they are WC#2 and in the playoffs. I don't think being 2.5 games out of the wildcard with their schedule is that daunting a task.
  23. Actually, I don't think so. More than business is considered when talking about Crawford and San Fran.
  24. I think the Brewers play better against better teams for whatever reason.
  25. Cincy home park factor is 1.072 #8 and Miller Park is 1.026 #15.
