    It sucks but a Burnes trade is 100% necessary. We can’t risk holding him until the deadline and he is hurt and walks in FA. Woodruff I think there are options. Trade if it’s available. Extension would be great depending on cost. Not the end of the world to hold him to the deadline and trade him then or get a comp pick.

    Turang never really hit in the minors, he was never projected to hit well in the majors, and he hasn't hit in the majors. I am always surprised when people want to move on from Adames and slot in Turang who likely has upside of being an average hitter and is projected below that. Not a good strategy to improve a bottom 5 offense. People are probably going to quote his AAA age 22 season when he has 108 wRC+ and that is ok I guess but we should expect that to drop significantly at MLB level. Wiemer and Frelick were more like 132 and 155 depending on how you look at it.

    I said most people because I knew there would be a small minority overly attached to a 19 year old with 190 PAs in single A. I don't want to derail this thread too much, my point was to put the shiny new toy in perspective by comparing him to guys in our system that we know with similar value.

    Hard to get excited about that. Not many people would have missed 14 or 16 if we traded them away.

    Their wRC+ is identical. Urias had about 60 PAs this year and Turang about 270. Urias is projected better and has 2 solid seasons under his belt. I am pretty confused why they gave Urias 60 PAs and gave up on him completely.

    Probably not a trade I would have made but Blalock is an interesting add. Wonder if they will use him as starter or reliever. I don’t know why they refused to play Urias at 2B. Turang isn’t hitting.

    Just the regular reminder that the non elite relievers are a crap shoot year to year. I don't care much about 5 years of control for strz. Doubtful he would last that long on the roster.

    He’s currently the 13th ranked DH and 71st overall.

    I don't know where the industry is on those guys right now. I could see Jimenez going for a back end top 100 guy and a throw in, or 3 prospects outside the top 100. Unless we are talking about a true premium player, I think the latter type of deal is more common, but fans want the best 1 prospect they can reasonably think of.

    I was down playing Jimenez value but you guys are taking it too far IMO. He’s only owed about $16m and you get him for 2 years worth of playoffs. He makes most teams better as a DH. The club options in his contract, I’m pricing them out assuming they don’t get picked up, but something could change and they are all upside no downside.

    If you look at the production other teams are getting out of their DH this year Eloy is more like top 10ish at his position, I don't know how you call that a star player.

    His team options are 16.5m and 18.5m. I don’t see how they give him much positive value. They probably won’t get picked up. By WAR it would look pretty unlikely, although I could see a team that would just be very interested in a 1 year deal. If you don’t trust WAR then I think Nelson Cruz is a good comp, he peaked at 15m annually. If he plays the outfield and is healthy and keeps hitting then that could change the math, a lot needs to go right for that to happen though.

    Eloy would be a big difference maker for the offense so I would give a solid offer for him. If he’s really DH only and 1.5 years of control left I probably don’t offer a top 5 and maybe protect Gasser due to franchise need though.

    I will be disappointed if he doesn't get a shot at MLB at bats this year. If I'm reading his stats right, K rate down to 24% this year, last time he spent awhile in AAA it was up above 33%. And last year he proved he can be effective at MLB level if used sparingly.

    I don’t think Yelich and Chourio are financially related. If Chourio is extended early he’s cheap. If late they can backload and avoid Yelich.

    I've definitely had this thought. It would be tempting to try to trade him. What would they use the money on though? A Woodruff extension? Couple of $10m players? I'd probably prefer to let it ride with Yelich if those are the options. If it came down to Yelich vs Adames for the next 6 years that would be a tougher question.

    He was a hot name a few years ago, I remember talking about selling a lot of prospects to get him. Wonder what happened. I just checked his stats and it looks like MLB pitchers found a hole in his swing or a pitch he can't hit.

    Interesting strategy this year. When we draft a college guy 11-20, it feels like we are just filling out the A/AA rosters. When we draft high school guys and go over slot to do it, the probability for them is quite low, but there is more hope of getting an all star there.

    He’s really just in purgatory until the trade deadline and potentially past that depending on what happens. If he had options he probably would have been up and down once or more.

    I mostly agree with this take except for the 1B/DH problem. We don't have any long term answers there. If we play guys like Caratini, Toro, Miller there it feels like we are just giving up on 2023 and auditioning for 2024. I guess Hiura could be a long term answer there but Hiura alone fixing our 1B/DH problem again just feels like auditioning for 2024. Maybe he can be part of the solution but they need another guy to have a hope for 2023.

    Ohtani is worth those 2 and more but I wouldn't make the trade because the team isn't good enough to sell so much for 2023 and nuke 2024+
