  1. Maybe I missed some trades but I assumed the Nats wouldnt want to actually sell and waste a year of Soto
  2. You could look into Personal Capital or Quicken. I have decided I will never use a tool that takes my login info though. There are a lot of concerns about security, usability and privacy. So I ended up back in Excel, where I have some pretty advanced spreadsheets. One of them does that but it assumes constant allocations over the past so many days and probably doesn't capture dividends correctly. I haven't yet thought it was worth the effort to capture all my buy/sell orders.
  3. I did like Olson, but nothing really changed with him since the trade. That article is a little overly bubbly.
  4. Between inflation, record sales, and the great resignation, companies are having a hard time filling jobs. Ask for a good salary.
  5. I would think Toronto is itching to go all in with some win now moves. That division has 4 playoff caliber teams in it (although Boston does look like they are fading away).
  6. I'm 34 with about $600k and I wouldn't dream of quitting my job without something else lined up. Having negative cash flow for long periods of time would kill me.
  7. Ashby at #37 and that’s it. A bit surprising to be honest. I feel like that's not that far off and Ashby is the clear headliner. I think Wiemer and Small would bring top 100 trade value though. Brewers pitchers have turned into a desirable commodity and every team would to bring in an upside guy like Wiemer.
  8. I thought this year was the last chance for Hiura, since next year he has to be on MLB roster or get released. Which also kind of makes it our last chance to trade him. Maybe I am off by a year or so.
  9. Wow, Urias as our best position player?
  10. Looks like the S&P will be flirting with market correction territory tomorrow. Can’t say I’m excited to buy the dip due to rising interest rates and continued supply chain issues.
  11. We are losing so much value with that trade Houser alone probably gets gets you Walsh If im trading Woodruff, im including Cain and I'm asking for Marsh, Walsh and Detmers. Haha, this thread is starting to sound like other teams offering their spare parts for Josh Hader. Walsh was about their 3rd or 4th best player last year and he's under team control for 4 more seasons. Houser was roughly our 13th or 14th best player and he's under control for 3 more seasons. We aren't getting Walsh for Houser.
  12. I don't think that is tempting at all. Given the way Stearns & company have approached 1B during their time here I'd imagine they don't value Walsh anywhere near as highly as they value Woodruff. Probably true. The WAR gap between the pairs is projected at a difference of about 0.2 for next year. Walsh + Adell come with a ton more team control (I consider Hiura a 0 value throw in) and they address a big need. Walsh is on the extremely short list of guys we could get that is actually a clear everyday upgrade at 1B, and I believe in Adell long term and even in 2022.
  13. One of the ones I read elsewhere but found interesting was Woodruff and Hiura for Walsh and Adell Not sure I say yes but very tempting for both sides I am personally hoping for an Ashby + 2 top 10 prospects for Olson deal and probably make Wiemer untouchable, maybe Mitchell too
  14. Spare parts traded for the best RP in baseball? No thanks. Smith and McNeil stunk last year, especially Smith who played in 145 games last year. I would be happy to buy low on Smith but Hader is crazy far away from a buy low piece.
  15. First of several rate hikes is expected in about 2 months so get your loans in now. Also I feel like it really kills any upside in the broad market for the next year. The experts like to say that they are already priced in but I feel like the market more often prices in good news compared to bad news.
  16. Interesting. That is genius if the interest rate is lower than what is on the mortgage. If the mortgage rate is lower than the HELOC, I don't know if I agree. Plus it saves you the closing costs. I feel like I'm missing something here because HELOCs are (quick google) much higher than mortgages. Above 4% while my mortgage is 3% and a new mortgage would be 2.65%.
  17. Buying a house is basically a hedge against inflation. It sets your rent to a constant value and gives you a huge asset that tracks inflation. Since inflation has been so high, it makes PMI look great because it got you that inflation hedge. If inflation drops (which the fed is clearly trying to make happen) then PMI won't look so good. House values won't increase at the same rate as the past year, although plenty of other things affect house value.
  18. I would think diversifying is better? If I understand current rules correctly in retirement you could take $40k of income from your traditional and it get taxed at 12%. But your current Roth deposits are probably taxed at 22% or above.
  19. It's more useful than you might think. I check in on a few other internet sources on these topics but they often hit wildly different demographics. Like I don't care about your San Francisco housing budget or how an 18 year old should invest a big inheritance. Tell me about some regular guy from Milwaukee, haha.
  20. What’s the point in giving up a valuable pitcher for McNeil? To trade Wong? Bench Urias? Play him as a below average 1B or DH? Ask me again in June when we are looking for the next Escobar trade deadline deal.
  21. We don’t know that’s how it’ll work. Nelson Cruz is the rarity. Most teams are using the DH for load management rather than signing a solid aging bat. Teams just aren’t looking to fill these spots with a Harold Baines or Edgar Martinez—guys that can’t play the field. When I was looking through NL rosters last year it looked more likely to solve roster logjams than anything. Like the Reds who had 7 3Bs on their roster or the Mets who kept benching their best hitter (JD Davis).
  22. I have a house at 3% and a car at 0.9% and I'm not paying a cent early on either one. Would rather invest it. Can make more money in the market. Plus i really like the flexibility of having a nice taxable investment account to dip into from time to time for big purchases.
  23. I always thought it was a big oversight to not talk about Roth vs. Trad in retirement planning. 70% income in a Roth is a lifestyle upgrade but 70% in traditional is a downgrade.
  24. Giving up a better player will get us a better player. Ashby could headline a Matt Olson package.
  25. I think the most logical trade is Ashby for an impact bat. It doesn’t subtract from the MLB roster that much and it could get a better player than Houser/Lauer, who would only get a minor improvement over Tellez, for example.
