    Checking his game log looks like he was maybe dealing with a injury in June playing only 4 games - the 8th, 9th, 14th and 24th. Has been playing with more frequency in July/August and is up to 10th in PAs entering tonight’s game so arrow definitely appears to be pointing up.

    Mudcats added two more in the top of ten after O’Rae’s sac fly via Areinamo double, Tayden Hall single and Luke Adams triple. Yerlin Rodriguez on yo try and close it out.

    Good news: Dylan O’Rae leads off the 8th with a single, goes 1st to 3rd on a groundout to the pitcher, then scores on wild pitch to tie it up at five apiece. Bad news: game is in injury delay after a Luke Adams foul ball, though it appears from game day an umpire was the injured party.

    Angels called up their 2022 first rounder Zach Neto two weeks into this season after only 44 minor league games. Believe the last guy to go straight from the draft to MLB skipping the affiliated minors entirely was Mike Leake with the Reds back in 2010, but he was a 2009 draftee and did throw in the AZ Fall League. Paul Skenes could be up pretty quick next year too. Looks like the Nats gave Strasburg eleven starts at AA/AAA the year after getting drafted before he got the MLB call.

    Pretty ugly in Arizona trailing 7-0 top of eight. Cooper Pratt (BB, SB), Juan Baez (single), Eric Bitonti (walk), Edgardo Ordonez (single) and Yeison Perez (walk) the entirety of the offense so far. Adam Seminairis had a decent rehab outing at 3 IP | 1 R | 3 H | 0 BB | 3 K.

    Patrick Dorrian hit his 20th of the year too, though it was kind of a wall scraper by his standards at only 101.5 MPH and 399 feet.

    Tobias Myers goes seven strong with 2 R | 6 H | 3 BB | 9 K followed by Ryan Middendorf striking out two in a twelve pitch scoreless eighth. Carlos Rodriguez (2-5, SB) had a big two RBI single while Chourio (3-5, SB), Collins (1-3, BBx2), Clarke (1-3, BB), Murray (1-3, BB) and Warren (2-4) have all been on multiple times. As I’m typing Collins singles home Rodriguez and Chourio, Now 6-2 Biloxi top of nine.

    Wisco currently trailing 5-2 with Je’Von Ward (2-3, HR) leading the way. Boeve has singled and walked while Lara, Moore, Wilken and Jheremy Vargas have each singled. Tanner Shears got through the sixth in six pitches with a K. Retired first two batters bottom of seven but has followed it up with a trio of walks. (mound visit) TRats have Wilken, Boeve, Hendry due up top of eight.

    Been busy in Kannapolis since that Avina blast. O’Rae (1-3, BB), Jadher (3-4, 2B, SB), Adams (2-4, 2B), Chirinos (1-4, HR), Tayden Hall (2-3, BB), Avina (3-4, HR, 2B), Barrios (2-4, SB) and Nicasia (1-2, 2B, BBx2) have all chipped in to what is currently a 10-6 Carolina lead at the stretch. Tyler Wehrle will presumably return to the mound bottom of seven after recording the final two outs of the sixth.

    DH is probably a little harshly penalized now that there are twice as many jobs as when the calculations were originally created. League average wRC+ for DH the last two years, with 30 jobs, has been 103 and 101. In the most recent full seasons with only 15 jobs it was a lot easier to make up for that harsh positional adjustment with league average for AL DH coming in at 105 (2021 & 2019), 106 (2012), 109 (2016 & 2014), 110 (2015) and 111 (2018).

    Since the universal DH in 2022 the Brewers are 25th in both wRC+ (85) and WAR (-1.9). Teams that have gotten worse DH production are WAS (85 | -2.2), SEA (80 | -3.0), CLE (73 | -3.4), KCR (74 | -3.5) and OAK (75 | -3.6). Another five teams are at -1.0 WAR or worse: DET (92 | -1.9), CHC (90 | -1.6), NYM (96 | -1.3), COL (88 | -1.1) and TEX (90 | -1.0). Even thee very best team in baseball ATL (94 | -0.3) and big time spenders SDP (97 | -0.3) have gotten negative DH production in the universal era. There weren’t enough DHs to go around when there were only 15 spots, much less now that there are 30. Yes, the Brewers have been bad at DH, but they have been far from the worst and are hardly alone in their predicament, even among contenders and some of the biggest spenders in the sport.

    Ben Clemens with a look today at how teams are faring at getting the runner home from third with less than two outs. Brewers come in 19th in opportunities (202) and 25th in conversion rate (66.8%), but 7th in runs per opportunity (1.52).

    Perkins popped up unexpectedly today in this FanGraphs article about Fernando Tatis Junior’s conversion to the outfield. Apparently Blake is one of only four OFs - along with Tatis, Kiermaier and Julio Rodriguez - who are top 20 in all of Arm Strength (92.2 MPH | 14th), Sprint Speed (30 feet/sec | 2nd), Jumps (+2.7 feet vs avg | 4th) and OAA (+5 | 12th)
