  1. Can’t underestimate the Scope of this game if their Aim is to advance in the tournament. There’s no Plaque for losing in the first round. At the same time I don’t Sense-a-Dynasty in the making either.
  2. Switch flipped & the Salt Lake losing streak is over. A little extra impressive since they closed them out down the stretch with the Big Three plus Carter & Matthews.
  3. & following it up with a typically flat third quarter. Hopefully they can flip the switch in the fourth, then again haven’t won in Utah since 2001 so not holding my breath.
  4. For real… https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2021&month=1000&season1=2021&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2021-05-22&enddate=2021-09-04&sort=5,d Over the full 162 the Astros scored the most runs in the AL & the Dodgers scored the most runs in the NL & they both lost to the Braves too. Small samples be crazy like that.
  5. Olson put up 5.8 WAR with a 153 OPS+ last year at age 27 vs a 127 OPS+ & about 4 WAR/140 games through age 26. Also trimmed his K rate from 26.1% through 2020 to 16.8% in 2021, which is pretty nuts in this day & age. At his age, with what appears to be an underlying approach change backing up his increased production I think 11 WAR is a pretty safe bet over the next two years.
  6. Taylor is the only other CF on the roster besides Cain. With Lorenzo’s age/health I think Tyrone will get plenty of PAs this year.
  7. Yup. From Willy’s first game on 5/22 through 9/4 when he hit the DL the Brewers scored the 2nd most runs in MLB.
  8. Brosseau/Jace are kind of redundant outside of hitting righty vs lefty. Would imagine one of them is the odd man out if (hopefully when) they add another bat.
  9. The Braves just won the World Series with Riley (898 OPS), Freeman (896 OPS), Albies (799 OPS), Duvall (772 OPS), Swanson (760 OPS), Soler (749 OPS), Rosario (740 OPS), Pederson (732 OPS) & d'Arnaud (671 OPS) as their nine man lineup. They were no juggernaut. The nine Brewers who got the most PAs in the postseason were Adames (886 OPS), Avisail (820 OPS), Urias (789 OPS), Escobar (786 OPS), Wong (783 OPS), Omar (743 OPS), Yelich (736 OPS), Cain (729 OPS) & Rowdy (719 OPS). Not a huge difference. If McCutchen (778 OPS) is a dumpster dive then the Braves won the WS in large part because of an even bigger dumpster dive in Rosario (740 OPS). Small samples be crazy like that.
  10. Should buy Soto some pitches to hit at least. Might have challenged whatever the non-Bonds IBB record was otherwise.
  11. Cruz 2021 MIN (346 PAs) 141 wRC+ Cruz 2021 TB away (137 PAs) 115 wRC+ Cruz 2021 TB home (101 PAs) 66 wRC+ Nelson was pretty much the same as he ever was before going to the Rays. Sure, his road production with TB was still down, but the Trop is what really killed his line over the last two months.
  12. Rodon (55 ERA- / 61 FIP-) significantly outperformed Houser (76 ERA- / 102 FIP-) in 2021. That is a 21% difference in ERA & a 41% difference in FIP.
  13. Starting next season: Looks like MLB was reading some BF.net...
  14. "As part of the agreement, a Joint Competition Committee will be formed comprised of four active players, six members appointed by MLB and one umpire. Beginning in 2023, the committee will be tasked with adopting changes to playing rules such as a pitch clock, base size, defensive positioning and automatic ball/strike zone." Check back in 2023, I guess.
  15. Hot Tub starting to fill up... Andrelton to Cubs @ 1/4. Rodon to Giants @ 2/44. Kershaw stays in LA @ 1/17.
  16. Hoby | 1.69 ERA | 0.66 WHIP | 13.5 K9 | 0.6 BB9 | 0.6 HR9 Luke | 2.35 ERA | 0.80 WHIP | 11.3 K9 | 1.5 BB9 | 1.3 HR9 Barker is a great story, & I hope he gets a shot here or elsewhere, but I guess I just don't see the #FreeLukeBarker hype. Hoby Milner outperformed him across the board at Nashville last year & got absolutely shelled at MLB. Having admittedly never seen Luke pitch, I would imagine that 1.3 HR9 is what is limiting his opportunities. If AAA hitters are taking him deep with that kind of frequency it doesn't bode well for his odds of having success against MLB hitters.
  17. Soler was projected between 2/18 (FanGraphs) and 3/36 (MLBTR), though most of the contracts signed before the lockout were coming in above the projections so I'd imagine he ends up closer to the MLBTR deal. Not sure if 3/36 counts as buying low (it would tie Aramis for the 4th largest free agent deal in franchise history), but if Stearns & company think that Soler is the best bat they can afford with whatever budget room Mark A gives them, I'll trust their judgement.
  18. Trubisky's career high in RATE+ is 107. The year before he signed with the Brewers Suppan had a 108 ERA+.
  19. Sounds like the schedule formatting will change starting in 2023 so every team plays each other every year. Maybe something like 3 games vs every AL team (rotate home & away every year, 45 games total) then 6 games vs non-divisional NL teams (3 home/3 away every year, 60 games total) leaves 57 games. 14 games (7 home/7 away) vs each divisonal opponent would be 56 games. Maybe that last game gets tacked onto the natural interleague rival or whatever it's called & they do the 2 home/2 away split series for those matchups?
  20. Bucks have a four game road trip 3/12 to 3/19 before coming back to MKE for a pair of games on 3/22 and 3/24. If Brook is ready for those home games that would give him about ten games to ramp up for the playoffs. Think they said 6-8 weeks for Connaughton & it has been about 4 weeks at this point so might only be a couple two tree RS games left before the playoffs by the time he is ready to go.
  21. Yeah, the owners have wanted an International Draft for some time, while the players have opposed it for just as long. It's almost like giving a take it or leave it ultimatum tied to a complicated issue that's been contentious for 20 years now was doomed to fail from the outset.
  22. Non-union international prospects ride buses for meager wages too. An international draft removes their freedom to choose whichever organization offers the most money & replaces it with a forced slotting system, which is why the MLBPA is against it.
  23. Giannis with 39 points in just 28 minutes & on only 19 shots (including 4-4 from three) to boot. Pretty crazy that he's putting up numbers right in line with his MVP seasons to relatively little fanfare compared to Jokic/Embiid. Giannis MVP1: 30.9 PER | .644 TS% | .292 WS/48 Giannis MVP2: 31.9 PER | .619 TS% | .278 WS/48 Giannis 21/22: 32.0 PER | .627 TS% | .288 WS/48
  24. Whichever rookie QB(s) go in the 1st round this year will be in the 1st year of their contracts, Love will be in the 3rd year of his contract. A player's talent isn't the only thing that determines their value.
  25. Granted the Suns were short handed, but nice to see Middleton come out with a big game & then put them away down the stretch to close it out. Now up to 22-6 with the Giannis / Khris / Jrue / Bobby / Grayson starting lineup.
