  1. I think the return is alright considering Zambrano would only waive his no trade to go to Miami. Can't really maximize your return when you'll do anything to be rid of the guy and you're only dealing with one team.
  2. Dice-K's best season in Japan isn't even better than the average of Darvish's last 5. The only thing they half have in common is Japanese heritage.
  3. Rollins implied that we offered more money/guaranteed years but that the difference wasn't significant enough to leave Philly.
  4. I heard the real reason Kottaras gave up his number is because ARAM is going to be Wolf's personal catcher this year.
  5. Someone really does needs to come out with that Jump To Conclusions Mat, it would be a big seller 'round here methinks.
  6. For pitchers especially I like to add the two (Fangraphs and Bref) and divide it since Fangraphs gives a pitcher virtually no credit for balls in play in their methodology and Bref gives them pretty much all the credit and the truth is obviously somewhere inbetween.
  7. I made the same offer to my employer earlier today, still waiting for them to get back to me...
  8. According to Heyman in his free agency column Prince "offered to stay for 8 years and 176 million a couple years ago."
  9. Well, it is Kenny Williams.
  10. I know it's two different pools of voters, but the fact that he beat out two players from non-playoff teams gives me a sliver of hope Braun will still take home the hardware.
  11. Time to call Kenny Williams and tell him he can have whatever he wants from our farm (besides Peralta & 2011 draftees) for Alexei.
  12. If Greinke isn't interested in an extension and pitching for a huge FA contract is the carrot he needs to put up another 2009 type season I'll gladly take the production.
  13. I'd try to keep Greinke for sure, offer him a Jered Weaver type deal and see what he thinks. I'd be fine with a fair deal for Axford and you'd probably save money as closers can make quite a bit in arbitration. I think Papelbon made over 25 million for his three arby years, for instance. Marcum, pass. I like watching the guy compete but tying up big money in MOR starters is not how a team like Milwaukee stays competitive long term.
  14. Whether you agree or disagree with the idea of an 8th inning guy it seems pretty clear with Loe's usage pattern early and then the success that the team had with K-Rod in that role later in the year that RRR definitely subscribes to the theory. That said, who gets the job in 2012? I'd love to bring Saito back but with his age/health I'd rather count on him for the 7th when he is able to pitch. Who is out there as a free agent that can be had on a one year deal that isn't going to get a closer's job? Nathan? Francisco? Discuss...
  15. I really hope that they don't decide to bring back Yuni just because I would like to be able to continue visiting Brewerfan over the course of the next year.
  16. In the NL I definitely agree with this sentiment since Prince's defense is already so terrible and you can always move Kemp to a corner. In the AL I'd rather give Prince the deal because his offense has been so consistent and his defense doesn't need to be a concern with the DH available.
  17. Seems like a lot of money for someone whose true talent is probably far closer to his 2009 than his 2011. I think in three or four years his 2011 will be an Adrian Beltre sized outlier.
  18. I hope Sveum gets the job if for no other reason than he always sounds like he has a mouthful of marbles whenever he is being interviewed.
  19. Saw this over on the Fangraphs community blog and thought it was a pretty fascinating read. Links to a PDF of FC Lane's original article in Baseball Magazine from 1915 in which he questions the accuracy of using batting average as the primary means to rank hitters and in the process invents a rudimentary version of wOBA, with some pretty accurate run values. Also some really good links in the comments for further perusal. http://www.fangraphs.com/...ed-nearly-100-years-ago/
  20. Infinite thanks, Mass. The minor league coverage was definitely what got me started as a near daily reader of Brewerfan 8 or 9 years ago.
  21. Take out one cold streak and Counsell hit .250/.373/.313 on the year.
  22. I think he'd put up a triple slash similar to Gaby Sanchez. Throw in averagish defense at minimum wage and there is value there and far more upside than any FA would offer.
  23. Grady Sizemore's run from 2005-2008 has to be one of the top four year stretches any centerfielder has put together in his generation. Power, speed, walks and plus defense out of centerfield while topping 700 plate appearances in all four years. Obviously he's been hurt for years now and we have no need for him given the current configuration of our roster, but I'm curious how you fell others rate him that he has been so overrated? Someone I wouldn't mind checking in on with the Sox likely to pick up Scutaro's option while having Iglesias in the pipeline is Jed Lowrie.
  24. They had that chance today. Anybody but Kotsay out there and the Cards get 1 run tops.
