Pittsburgh has played well. Past three series:
Took 2 of 3 from Cubs at Wrigley. Took 2 of 3 from Reds in Cincinnati. Played the Phillies to three one-run games in Philadelphia.
Does anyone have a hypothesis on why Anderson went to almost zero playing time?
He had pretty good April/May, bad June and alright July before injury. To get almost zero chance after returning from injury seemed strange for a player that has been ‘above replacement level’ this year.
Just high strikeout rate?
Should be a very exciting conclusion to the season.
Marlins currently hold the final wild card spot. Miami has one more against Mets and at pesky Pittsburgh.
Cubs playing inspired baseball and throwing Stroman today. Stroman has pitched fewer than 4 IP in six appearances since July 15.
Reds lose to Pittsburgh after leading 9-0.
Giants and Padres also lose.
Marlins travel to New York and Pittsburgh after today. Pirates have been pesky.
Unusual to pitch Tellez but I think CC did the right thing. We have 216 more outs to get before the postseason.
I especially worry about Payamps’ workload this year.
Could Caratini be emergency 1B if Santana got hurt? I’m having difficulty identifying a scenario where Tellez makes sense.
If an injury to Santana is serious, then Tellez is a roster replacement.
Best I can tell, Jesus Luzardo would be on full rest today. His last start against Milwaukee did not go well for the Marlins.
I did not realize that 37-year old, Johnny Cueto, is also a Marlin and sometimes spot starts.
The Cubs are on the losing end of tiebreakers against the D-backs, Reds, Marlins and Phillies, giving all of those teams the advantage if they were to finish the season in a tie with Chicago.
