  1. Not every day that Russ compliments Tony Gwynn.
  2. Exactly. They aren't doing the four-man rotation. The fact that it will be in the 30s tomorrow is better reasoning IMO.
  3. Wouldn't they just make the game up tomorrow right away? Then Sheets would just throw tomorrow and everyone else would stay on schedule. Right?
  4. Baseball season is here. Woohoo! But seriously, Gwynn second?
  5. 1. Theriot 2. Soriano
  6. I don't have a problem with the Davidson hype. I'd much rather hear about that over Kevin Love or Tyler Hansbrough.
  7. I'm pretty sure I need Memphis to win if I still want a chance to win. That should be a great game.
  8. Thing is, Braun is still cheap for a couple years. They could just as easily make him a nice offer in a couple years when the team will likely have more money to work with anyway.
  9. I think Ned should have been fired, but I'd choose him a million times before ever choosing Dusty. He abuses pitchers, favors crappy veterans over better, younger players and severely undervalues OBP.
  10. Not saying they shouldn't have had a lot of coverage, but there was Davidson hype EVERYWHERE. There was even a dumb article on espn where Pate Forde wrote a gushing article about the Davidson administration paying for all their students to go to the Sweet 16 and ridiculed other schools for not doing the same. He conveniently didn't consider that Davidson has only 1700 students or that the yearly tuition is 40 grand. An email I heard on the radio with the Sklar brothers the other day summed it up the best. Dear Sklars, Did you know Jerome Bettis is from Detroit? Sincerely, Stephen Curry is Dell Curry's son.
  11. I have reached the point where I am older than almost any NCAA athlete not attending BYU. I figure I have at least six or seven years before I call them "kids" though.
  12. That was awesome. I agree. Keep Bogut and Yi, and then blow this mother up.
  13. Yeah, Tenn-Louisville was brutal. That's Tennessee though, organized (or not so organized) chaos. When their press is working, they're great. When it's not, they're chickens with their heads cut off.
  14. Language translators can be fun. For example, if you type "I like robots!" into a spanish translator and then translate back to Enlish, you get "I have taste of the robots!" Then just use the spanish word, and you get "I have taste of the robustezahs!" That was my fantasy football name for awhile.
  15. I heard Len Elmore interviewed yesterday, and he said something along the lines of, "If you're Wisconsin, you can't let Stephen Curry beat you. Do everything you can to stop him, and make his teammates beat you." I definitely disagree with that, and so does Bo Ryan. Don't get me wrong, Curry will obviously require a lot of attention from Flowers, but I'd rather accept that Curry is going to get at least 15 and probably 20 or 25, and worry just as much about stopping the rest of their guys. The Badgers don't play zone or any "junk defenses" (I had never heard that term before the tournament, now it seems to be everywhere?), so Curry will get chances, but I don't see anyone else going off the way Bill Walker did along with Beasley.
  16. I wonder if Beane would have reconsidered blowing up the team if he knew the Angels would get hit this hard with injuries. Probably would have done it anyway.
  17. Hmm. Definitely some great advice from everyone; I'm glad I asked. I definitely have things to consider. To generalize, it seems very tough to get started and get a job, but pretty rewarding once you get there. I prefer to stay in Wisconsin, so that would be somewhat of a factor. I have considered journalism/editing. I haven't been actively looking recently, but it's in the back of my mind. I was an editor for my school newspaper and loved it, but a "real" position in that field might not be right for me. I'm not sure that I'd want to start as small as I'd need to get somewhere in that line of work. One last question. Alverno offers a Master's degree in education that would probably take no more than one semester longer than just a teaching certification. How much more beneficial, if any, would a Master's be in terms of getting me hired, even with no teaching experience? And InsomnianInkRoss, I can let you know if I leave my current job. Thanks for all the responses. They were extremely helpful.
  18. I don't necessarily think 23 is too late to be realizing something, but I thought teaching might be an exception. I guess I was under the impression that teaching is something most people knew they wanted to do from a pretty early age. A couple posts mentioned substitute teaching/volunteering. I believe you do not need certification to be a sub; is that correct? As far as getting a job, a few of my friends in the profession have told me that there are not many male English teachers, which could work to my advantage. Not sure, though.
  19. Bush definitely has a curve.
  20. Just looking for a little advice, if you don't mind. I am a recent college grad. I currently have an entry-level job in marketing that I'm not all that crazy about. I realize it's entry-level and it would get better, but I am pretty convinced that I don't want a career in the field. I am the guy who is last among his friends to decide what he wants to do. Within only the last month or so, I've thought seriously about teaching English at the high school level. At first it was a passing thought, but the more I thought about it the more I thought I wanted to and would be capable of teaching. Some of my reasons for thinking so: I am a strong writer, I excelled at and enjoyed several college English courses, I like working with kids (although I haven't done so extensively) and I would enjoy coaching or overseeing a school newspaper. It almost makes too much sense, but at the same time it's really goofy. I mean, what teacher realizes for the first time that he/she wants to teach around age 23? I'm trying to approach this with caution since it's sort of out of nowhere. I am still paying my student loans from undergrad, so I want to be sure before I start taking out more. I know there are some teachers on this board, so I just have a few questions for you: When did you realize you wanted to teach? Why do you like teaching? Where did you go to school for education? Do you have any recommendations for me in the Milwaukee area? I am hardly into the process, but so far I've really only looked into Alverno (I have a friend who is currently in their Masters of Ed program). Anything else to add? Thanks in advance!
  21. So could Glendon Rusch.
  22. I think endaround has this right. This looks like a salary dump. I was surprised the Brewers' payroll was this high, and it looks like they were intending on trading him all along but couldn't find a suitor.
  23. Don't have this year's game, but '07 was terrible about that. My individual player got picked off much more than any MLB team does.
  24. Hubert Davis actually said on this morning's Sportscenter that Kansas has the best defense in the country. He also picked Western Kentucky over UCLA.
  25. Yeah, I don't get this. It doesn't really make sense to trade Weeks now until we see how he does when healthy. And if he does what many think he will, it won't make sense to trade him then either.
