  1. I'd be selling a lot if I were ATL or CIN. I'd sell if I were TEX, but with my eyes on '09.
  2. 5.9 would be above average. I don't think there's a single team averaging 6.
  3. Zach didn't have many options left anyway. He may well turn out, but his ceiling has fallen to the point of it not being a big deal.
  4. I don't think he has been 100% all year until he rested. No one is very good at 70-80%.
  5. Every game is a near sellout up 'til 8/10...gonna have 14 sellouts in a row.
  6. LaRussa and Duncan just gave up on him. Nice move by CLE.
  7. The average start is between 5 and 6 innings. Effective 5 inning starts can certainly help a team, if the alternative is an ineffective 5 frame outing. Not many teams have Bush/McClung types at #5...they'd happily take a 5 IP, 2 ER start.
  8. The Olympics are one of the finest events every 4 years. It's a shame they interfere with the Crew.
  9. Vin used to simulcast on radio and TV. Not sure if he still does.
  10. Superb bench bat, and more important, depth in case of injury.
  11. When it is a sellout, many folks will not go out hoping to buy a pair at the resale area. The best situation for resale is when many good seats are gone, but plenty remain for "backup".
  12. Calling a pitch that is not a strike a strike in a one run game to avoid a possible situation may be the weakest excuse I've heard yet. Make the correct call and shut up. Worrying about a brawl instead of getting the call right...that would be cause for termination for me. It's borderline game fixing.
  13. All over the place. One strike on Prince looked 6 inches off the plate. Just another day in the bigs.
  14. They may need bodies for next year, if sheets and CC both leave as expected. Washburn is solid, but a huge notch lower than those two.
  15. Heh. Sounds like another example of a writer using "grit" and "chemistry" to decide who is going to win. It's all about runs scored and runs prevented. The rest is for the clueless like Tony W who tell folks who won. Other than the fact I did not say what an idiot Dick Justice is, I'm pretty proud of how this turned out. I wonder why the newspaper business is in such sad shape...hmmm.
  16. I'll take talent and playing the wrong way any day of the week. However, Gleeman did a study on this a while back and 19 of 20 of the overachievers were white, and many of the underachievers were minorities. Not exactly the same, but close.
  17. Unless you are gone for 10 days or more, you don't need to set up a feeding substitute. When we moved here, we got rid of all but one tank and I fed them once every 2-3 days...didn't lose one for over a year. Took 3 years for them all to go. Oh, and they will die. If you are prone to crying, don't bother. If you want a 10 year pet, get a dog.
  18. I knew I should have trademarked ROOGY...not it's all the rage.
  19. Yost got a lot smarter the day Doug got CC, and Hall/Weeks started hitting.
  20. As of today, I'd say JJ is likely to be signed long-term and agrees to play 2B. Escobar at $325K a year might be too darn tough to resist as the SS in '09.
  21. Should not take much...I'd argue one of those two, especially Pena, would be plenty.
  22. He's like a poor man's Escobar, an all-star every year for the past 4. He's young, a very good fielder, and while he's not Ryan Braun on offense, middle infielders don't need to be.
  23. The guy who gets the save cannot be the pitcher of record.
  24. Most blown saves actually occur in the 6th-8th innings, which make that whole stat meaningless. The out of the box idea is possible, but is improbable.
  25. Mota has been very good versus RH, and awful versus LH. Tough not to use him versus a few LH's though, or it will overwork the other guys. Stetter can be back in a day if needed. Mota does still throw very hard. He's a serviceable pitcher who may be replaced, but he's the same as many other guys. When you're dealing with a small sample like relievers do, a bad outing or two makes a guy seem much worse than he is.
