Came here to say the same thing! I remembered seeing it on the home page and thinking I’d come back to read it. Then when Turang hit the second one I thought I better go read it lol

This deadline stunk. I'm content with the players we added in Shelby Miller and Danny Jansen. It's not sexy, but I think both players are useful. I wanted them to do more, but I understand that's not really the way the club has operated. The part I'm not content with is trading away Cortes. I like Cortes a lot and I think he will perform well for the Padres the rest of the way. I expect he will out perform Quintana the rest of the way as well. As Jack previously reported, the Brewers weren't interested in moving to a 6 man rotation, but even still I think there were useful ways to deploy Cortes due to the need to limit the usage of Woodruff and Misiorowski. What exacerbates the annoyance of moving Cortes is that it appears like we salary dumped him. I know we sent some cash to SD as well, but my guess is the money we sent SD was minimal and the additional salary we took on from AZ about equals out to dumping Cortes. I am making this assumption because we attached a prospect to Cortes and the player we got back and I'm not sold that Lockridge really offers anything that Avans and Cameron can't do for us in the event we need a fill in 5th outfielder.

18-12. the back half of the month will be a beast,

Unless Collins or Frelick were involved in the trade. I’d balk at including Frelick due to the difference in control. I would be willing to include Collins if Cleveland were interested. we have seen the brewers be creative in the past (mostly 2018) when it comes to deadline deals. Is it possible they’d be willing to play Collins at second and Turang to SS for the remainder of the season? I know dans have liked to poo pop the idea of Turang playing SS, but I’d trust the team if they decided to roll with something like this.

I was hoping we’d be improving our bench. I think this move helps accomplish that. Back up catcher wasn’t my primary concern, but there have been rumors we were looking to upgrade there. I’m into it. Let’s keep going.

When does Arnold start to receive some criticism
long ball replied to brewers888's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I’m not even a prospect hugger but I would hate this. im totally guilty of seeing a young guy succeed in the majors I automatically start to inflate their value in my head (ya I’m there with Gasser, Patrick, Misiorowski, and Myers too lol). I theory, we have the track record of polishing turds into viable big league pitchers, but I still hate trading away any of the young starters for an expiring contract. -
I’m a little bummed they don’t want to try the 6 man rotation. I’m in favor of keeping Cortes and Quintana, but I do think Cortes is likely the better pitcher down the stretch. Misiorowski is going to continue to pitch limited innings (and I agree with this approach) but it may make sense to pair him with Quintana since there is a stark difference in style. Woodruff has shown the ability to be efficient in 5-6 innings so he’s less likely to need a long reliever coming in after him even if they continue to limit his pitch count and up downs. that would probably mean they need to be willing to use DL Hall or Tobias Myers (whoever survives the Cortes arrival) in a larger variety of roles than they have been to date. I think we have the pieces needed to win the division and I’d rather keep the guys we have than swap Quintana or Cortes’ roster spot for a true reliever.

Question of the week: name your trade candidate
long ball replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
This is it for me too. -
Naylor is a good hitter, but if our biggest need is to add some power to the line up he wasn't really the best fit. I don't think the price is crazy and I wouldn't have been too upset if we had traded similar prospects for him.
-
I would be vehemently against trading 1 of Quero, Pratt, Peña, or Henderson for Suarez or Naylor. No way would I want to trade 3 of that group for both of them.

Predict the deadline for Milwaukee
long ball replied to Scooterfletcher's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I think they’ll add to the bench mostly. willi Castro- reminds me a bit of when we added Eduardo Escobar back a few years ago. Would play some infield and some outfield for us. nathaniel lowe- this isn’t very exciting, but he is a free agent to be. Has a solid track record but is having a down year. Still hitting right handed pitching ok. Probably won’t cost a lot to acquire. most importantly I think we hang onto all of our mlb level pitchers. -
Woody and Misiorowski are probably two of our three best starters and those are guys we need to be mindful of their innings anyway if we want to get to the playoffs and have them available. Other than that, we are really only talking about Freddy and that basically turns 12 remaining starts down to 10. That doesnt concern me personally, but that’s a valid concern. I’m high on Cortes and I think it’s likely that he’s better than Quintana down the stretch, but I don’t think there’s a great difference between Priester, Quintana, and Cortes so I’m not concerned about taking away starts from any of them. im not concerned about the added rest for starters. I do realize the brewers really only went to a 6 man rotation following the covid season and haven’t done it much since, but having MIs and Woody on usage limits it makes sense (to me). I’m operating under the assumption that Cortes is the 6th starter. If the Brewers decide to move either Quintana or Cortes then I’m less excited about the 6 man rotation. The usage limitations with Woodruff and Misiorowski still exist and would need to be addressed in a different way.

So what you’re saying is… they’re going to win 101.

I was thinking the same thing while reading the post. Add in that every reliever currently in the roster has been pretty good. We’ve ditched Payamps, Alexander, Thomas, Peguero, Rodriguez, etc who were kinda duds. I think once Cortes comes back, we will be in a 6 man rotation. So that will bring us down to a 7 man pen until September so we need Murphy to trust DL Hall more. We need him pitching more than once per week. I’m not really sure where they’d fit an outside reliever onto the 26 man roster.
-
The short answer is no. If he continues to pitch well the rest of the way, the Brewers should extend a qualifying offer though.
-
It could be as long as Murphy is willing to use Hall (or other tandem starters) for more than 2-3 innings/week. We probably only have 50ish regualr season innings left for Misiorowski. That's about a start per week if we assume 5 innings/start. I wonder if they'd entertain matching him up with Nestor Cortes as a set.
-
I wonder what’s more sustainable: a 6 man rotation or a piggyback set ups. we have 6 games per week for most of the season here on out. If our starters average 5 IP/game… we need to be able to count on our 8 relievers to be able to contribute 3 IP/week. if we go to a 6 man rotation and we assume the same 5 IP/game then we need to cover those same 24 relief innings but with only 7 relievers. So that’s about 3.5 IP/reliever. The rule changes have sorta prevented the bullpen shuttle that we saw in past seasons. So a 6 man rotation might actually be tougher to maintain than a piggyback set up or two. However, you’d need the manager to stick with the tandem start and resist the urge to pull the plug to earlier to go with the “A Pen” guys. it might be more tenable once we get to September and we get the extra pitcher.
-
Just the clarify, I didn’t mean cut from the organization. Just not making the opening day roster. Re: uribe … the main reason I have him on the opening day roster is to have him get through that suspension he still needs to serve. Having him serve that from the beginning of the season will be the easiest way to ever get him in a position to contribute this year at the MLB level.

C - Contreras 1- hoskins 2- Turang 3- Dunn ss- ortiz lf- Chourio CF- Mitchell RF- Frelick DH- Yelich Bench- Haase, Durbin, Canha, Capra Notable cuts: Black, Bauers, Monasterio, Margot rotation: Freddy, Civale, Myers, Quintana, Cortez pen: megill, uribe, Hudson, Koenig, Mears, Alexander , payamps, Peguero notable cuts: Thomas, Rodriguez I think for the most part this doesn’t require a lot of explanation. I went with Capra as the last position player due to position, hot spring, and lack of options. Any of the guys I listed in notable cuts could easily overtake that final bench spot. I went with Peguero as the last guy in the pen due to track record and history with the team. Many of the guys the brewers brought in over the off season still have options. I don’t really see the need for Thomas given the way we added vets to the rotation and we have a strong stable of guys with roster flexibility. Even if Thomas makes the roster out of spring, I don’t see him lasting very long.
-
They signed Alexander to a major league deal so I'm going to assume he fits somewhere on that opening day roster in either the rotation or pen.
