  1. If it was Burnes for Holiday straight up I probably would do that. It would move this org back a couple years but Holiday has been through the roof spectacular this year. I doubt the O's trade him but they have so much IF depth it could happen. I agree DL Hall hasn't been great but he has like 16 innings in the bigs. He is a lefty that throws in the upper 90s with 3 solid pitches. As a 3rd piece in a Burnes deal he would be great just on potential.
  2. The Os have tons of bats that would make sense for us and some interesting 2nd tier pitching. They do have a bunch of money to spend so I doubt that is a huge deterrence. For Burnes I'd probably want Grayson Rodriguez still. Say Rodriguez, Westburg, and DL Hall or Coby Mayo Peralta for Westburg, Coby Mayo or DL Hall, and Cade Povich.
  3. With every passing loss trading Burnes seems more likely. Thankfully the central stinks but our offense is so bad that Burnes doesn't help much if we win 85 games and back into the playoffs. Woody could go to if he get 3 or 4 nice starts and Wily as well. At this point if we could get good upper minors or recent mlb players. Burnes to Texas makes the most sense to me. Woodruff or Burnes to Tampa, yanks, Rays, Jays, or O's could all work but Arizona would be an interesting dark horse candidate. The Dbacks have some intersecting talent and pitching needs.
  4. I'd pick the two guys (18 and 33)with the most potential to be middle of the order bats. We need some run producers who hit better than .230. There are a ton of 3B college bats who would fit out org. perfectly. I would go Schaunel or Taylor 18 and Jake Gelof 33. However I would be ok taking say Gelof 18, a different lower ranked college bat (45-60 range) save $ and take a high end arm that drops in the 2nd or even 3rd.
  5. Does anyone have a scouting report on Edwin Jimenez? The guy has been great but I am having a hard time figuring anything about him other than stats.
  6. I think hitter will adjust to him here now that there is a pattern. Hopefully he is experienced enough to adjust to the adjustments. I would send Rea down before him when Miley is back.
  7. I would definitely send Turang and Toro/Brousseau down before Monte. Turang needs to re calibrate and Monte has been huge. I read somewhere that Frelick should be back the 3rd week of June and Keston shortly after that. Those could be big boosts come July.
  8. Agree, why add on unneeded future risk. If he was pitching better I would say sure but he is far from a sure thing long term.
  9. Don't rush him, if he was hitting .300 and taking walks I would be onboard, however AA seems like the right spot for him. If he gets hot for a week or two later in the year a AAA promotion wouldn't be crazy by any means. I would guess he is maybe a candidate for a call-up around this time next year if things go well.
  10. I think he can be one of those risers in the rankings but I can't say I know what or how hard he throws. If he can get to the 95 mph range he has some potential, but his college stats are meh and aside from his ERA his other stats aren't great either for a 23 and a half year old in high A. At 6'4" 230 he is probably already filled out, my guess is that he is a nice organizational guy maybe along the lines of Alec Bettinger.
  11. I would be ok with like a 1 year extension and say 5/6 million but not much more or longer. With Miller playing well and Urias close to being back Anderson should be in RF more. He has had a nice year but is still just an average player in my mind.
  12. I like Small as an eventual bullpen piece who could maybe work back into starting if he develops a 3rd pitch more. Not to hot on Teheren, I am sure the hope is that he can give us 4-5 starts until Woody is back. However he has an era over 5 and his arm is toast (at least it was a couple years ago). I agree I would much rather see one of 6-7 minor league guys get a chance and that probably includes Justin Jarvis or Carlos Rodriguez straight from AA over Julio(4-5 AAA guys then the 2 AA).
  13. It will be interesting to see if Quero, Misi, or Black (maybe Brown if he keeps the hot streak going, or Guilarte or Lara if rankings like mlb.com don't come out for 2-3 months) make any mid-season top 100. I feel like our 2nd tier prospects are always undervalued nationally.
  14. I think his 10 million salary makes it a bit hard to just dump him. He is also a really good pinch hitter. Maybe he gets an "injury" and Keston gets an extended look and then figure it out from there.
  15. With Eddy Alvarez playing so well in AAA I tend to agree, it would be nice to send Brice down for a few weeks just to gain that extra year of control. He had a solid game last night but Alvarez is at .370/484/616 with 2 hr, 8 sb, 14 bb, 15 k's. I would almost say the same thing with Weimer but there are no decent option in AAA. Maybe if Taylor starts playing well we could go Yeli, Taylor, Anderson (with Miller, Perkins, maybe Huira) for a few weeks and scratch by. Also it is probably time to give Huira another shot, Voit has been useless at the plate and at least Huira has some versatility at 1B, 2B, and LF if need be. If Huira stinks again we can always find a similar platoon 1B option on the cheap (or just let Rowdy start vs. lefties).
  16. When do minor league teams normally put out a finalized roster? Great to hear the org. being semi aggressive and putting Wagoner in A+ to start the year.
  17. MVP: Woodruff/Adames CY Young: Woodruff Rookie of the Year: Turang BA Leader: (.285 Yeli, Frelick hit .301 but doesn't qualify) HR Leader: Contreras/Adames 32 ERA Leader: Woodruff 2.52 SO Leader: Woodruff 231 WAR Leader: Adames 6.3, Woody 6.8 Breakout(s): Contreras, Turang, Guerra, Ashby Disappointment(s): Multiple injuries to key players (Rowdy, Winker, Mitchell, Miley, Lauer) and bullpen issues. Bold Prediction (s): Yeli leads the league in SB, team starts slow (bullpen/injuries) 26-34, we trade Burnes O's in July (Holiday, Westburg, DL Hall, Keegan Akin and then the team plays better and sneaks in the playoffs. Front office gets lots of blame for trading Burnes to early but adds a couple key pieces at the deadline that make up for it. Record: 87-75 Playoffs- Win 1st round, lose 2nd to Dodgers
  18. Pirates 64-98, they got a bit more interesting with Santana, Choi, and Cutch add a little stability and leadership but not a ton of upside. They could be +/- 5 games if Cruz lives up to potential or if he stinks. Reds 74-88, I wanted to switch the Cubs and Reds but couldn't. Lodolo, Greene, and Ashcraft have the stuff to be the best top of the rotation in the bigs in a few years (who knows if they can reach that potential). Add in some young infield talent they could be sneaky ok. Cubs 77-85, The Cubs added a bunch of maybe's basically there entire pitching staff overachieved last year. They have some serious upside but I doubt any of there younger guys turn into all stars, Bellinger isn't likely turning back into an mvp candidate, and Swanson has been a below average SS until last year. Brewers 87-75 A lot depends on the bullpen to me. Our lineup should be better adding Contreras and Winker, and then the young guys getting a chance. However the pen is super worrisome to me. Cards 92-70 There lineup has ridiculous upside, especially if Jordan Walker puts up big numbers. There rotation is good enough to keep them in games and get to a top notch bullpen. In my opinion, to catch the Cards we need 2 hitters to be true middle if the order bats and have the young guys play well. On top of getting high quality late inning work from 2 or 3 guys not named Williams.
  19. I can't see us keeping Willy, either he hits like 2021 (.285, 20 hr's in 365 abs) or like last year (.238/.298/.756 30 HR). Either way he either prices himself out of town or his offensive production isn't worth 25-ish million. If we can find a way to extend someone Woodruff makes more sense, using a previous point that solid SS are easier to find than an ace. We have 2 solid replacement options in Turang and Eric Brown (potentially). I would give all the young guys good looks this year and try and get Braves like extensions for Turang, Mitchell, Contreras, Frelick, Weimer, Williams (maybe), Gasser (???). The only way we keep Willy is if we trade Yeli and I can't see us sending Yeli off without taking a big contract and making a Willy extension possible.
  20. Agreed, the FA reliever market has been crazy. Anderson has enough upside with the bat and his versatility to be a big upgrade. Say he plays 3B vs lefties (Urias to 2B) and plays 2-3 times a week in the OF at least to start the year. Anderson can kind of work like Jace last year with Urias going to 2nd.
  21. I like this signing, with Miller and Toro having options it is fine. As a 4th OF and utility infielder he should be good. We have had good luck with Marlins players and when our players go there they are worse. Players have attributed the batters eye to the improvement. I would think. At least early on I would think he gets a ton of playing time with Urias going to 2B at times and Taylor in CF. He probably can play 1B occasionally as well if given some time in camp.
  22. Not that I know much or do a lot of scouting in advance of the draft here are a few guys that interest me based on mlb.com scouting reports and rankings. P Thomas White Big left-handed HS pitcher, mid 90's heater and lots of room to grow. SS Matt Shaw He is probably one of the safest picks as far as bats go, he may be iffy to stay at short but would be a great 2B if nothing else. Looks like Tyler Black with more power and speed. P Bryce Eldridge 1B/RHP A high school 6'7" kid who throws mid-90's, I like that he can play 1st and pitch. My guess is he has more value as a P and you would start him there and maybe bat occasionally the 1st few years. P Travis Sykora RHP Another big 6'6" 220 pound high schooler with big heat. It seems like our front office likes tall pitchers based on the past few drafts. C/SS/OF Cole Carigg Talk about utility star, managers wet dream. He has advanced hit, speed, and defense tools all around the field. Maybe like a Turang style player who can catch and more OF experience. I always like reaching on a guy like this and signing below slot and then finding the highest ceiling arm later with the saved money.
  23. Agreed, I would say the Marlins are assured to trade a young starter for a outfielder in the near future. With our current pitching depth I would guess there is a smaller chance it would be with us but maybe. Maybe Arbold can work some 3 team magic and sneak in a steal. Any chance the Marlins could be in on Bryan Reynolds he would make a lot of sense for them if the Pirates are off the Soto sized trade demands.

  25. Cabrera has a upper 90s fb, 93 mph change and solid curve and slider. He may have some injury history but so does Mitchell. Again, I would love to to get Cabrera for Mitchell, I just feel like the going rate for a Cabrera type pitcher is 2 Mitchell type players.
