  1. Any thoughts on how we get everyone signed? 1) Wilken= 3.9 mill save=121k I doubt Wilken takes much of a discount but maybe a little. 1comp) Knoth= 2.1 mill save=493k This is paying him 2nd round money, as a lower ranked guy 2 mill would seem a solid payday. 2)Boeve= 1.1 mill save=446k Boeve takes less as a smaller school college player who went above rankings. 3)Bitoniti= 1.5 mill over=708k My guess is the 2 lowers drafted HS players will want around 1.5 mill to forgo college. ??? 4)Woodward=100k save=457k Pretty sure he had Tommy John and will be out most of next year. We should be able to sign him well below. 5) Birchard= 392k at slot As a 19 year old with options I doubt we can go below slot. 6)Pratt= 1.5 over=1.19k Same as Bitonini 7-10 Kuehner, Yoho, Manfred, Austin Sign 400k (100k each) save=382k That comes out pretty muchly even if my math is correct. It would be nice to have a little extra to sign Letson and some of the other HS picks after 10.
  2. As much as I love Hader, 25-ish innings is not worth the 1 solid or 2 good pieces he will cost. I am sure he would cost like Gasser or something like Mendez and Logan Henderson. I'd rather go after a guy with contol if giving up a decent prospect package. Kendall Graveman, Scott Barlow, Daniel Bard, or Drew Smith are guys controlled through 2024 and wouldn't cost a ton. Don't forget when Woody comes back Houser might go back to the pen, Uribe will hopefully stick. Also if Ashby comes back it might be to the bullpen. Maybe a guy like Lauer comes back as a reliever. A nice late inning arm would be nice but unnecessary.
  3. Mlb hasn't re-ranked prospects since the beginning of the year. When guys graduate they just move everyone up 1 spot and add new guys in like Quero and Misi who weren't in the ranking. I am sure when reranked Frelick goes down a bunch and Quero and Misi jump. Chourio probably falls a bit but my guess is not out of the top 10. Chourio's tools still will keep him above Quero. Chourio is still on pace for nearly 20/40 at 19.
  4. I love Travis Sykora, Cameron Johnson, and Cole Schoenwetter as big upside HS arms. However who knows signabilty matters. Hunter Owen, Jaron Watts-Brown, and Tanner Witt all seem likely to be solid 4/5 starters but without huge ceilings. Plenty of interesting bats as well, my favorite is Brandon Winokur a 6'5" HS bat that has great power and athleticism.
  5. No but he should be top 50 or so in mlb. In my opinion 1. Chourio top 5 2-4 Quero, Frelick Misiorowski around top 50 5-7 Black, Lara, Wilken End of top 100/Borderline
  6. Only 9 strikouts in over 200 abs. This guy feels identical to Tyler Black. Small school guy, high end hit tool with a little power and speed. He is maybe a bit slower but probably a better fielder. Another very solid pick is my opininion.
  7. I love the plus curve ball with a solid heater. His delivery looks pretty smooth and at 17 I would guess there is still plenty of untapped potential. If we could sign him for under or at $2 million this becomes and A+. As the 98th ranked prospect my guess is the Brewers know he will take an under slot amount which greatly improves his value.
  8. Teams can buy players in the mlb. We bought Owen Miller for cash considerations. Also a teams in all leagues can take money in the way of bad contracts. Say in 3 or 4 years a guy like Bryan Reynolds stinks and the Pirates have the 1st pick. The Pirates could trade Reynolds and #1 to a rich team to take his contract. That would widen the gap between small and big market teams even more.
  9. Knoth is a nice get, especially if he signs below slot. Ranked in the 90's by mlb.com means we could get a super intriguing arm and possibly save some $ for a later pick.
  10. Love this pick, 3rd was a weak spot in the system and we need middle of the order bats. Wilken is both, I wouldnt be surprised if he goes straight to A+ and let Adams keep the playing time in A ball. He will be a great 1B in my opinion if he gets a bit stiff for 3rd. Looks a lot like Pete Alonso to me.
  11. Problem is that big market teams could just buy picks. I would be fine if the rule was trading picks for picks or prospects. No money or 40 man salary commitments. Hoping Morales or Gelof at 33. I don't know much about some of the better HS prospects but I'm sure they would be fine.
  12. Brayden Taylor and then Hurst Waldrop would be my 2 options if there. I still like taking a lower rated player and saving a bunch for later picks. There are a ton of high school pitchers I like later on that we can go over slot and make 3 or 4 solid picks that way.
  13. Chourio isn't going anywhere, you don't trade a top 5 prospect for 1.5 years of anyone. With the Mets having a lot of potential money coming off the books this year my guess is they take care of Alonso after Ohtani signs where ever next year. Carlos Santana could be an interesting option. He is a much better 1B than Rowdy and better than Winker at the plate. He won't set the world on fire but would be much more consistent and cost peanuts. With Frelick sputtering in AAA, I would be ok trading him if someone would give us top 50 prospect value for him. Maybe even Frelick for a prospect like Kyle Manzardo. We could even do something like Frelick for Justin Turner and a prospect (Nick Yorke or Blaze Jordan). Any chance we could get any value for guys stuck in AAA like Urias, Huira, or Lauer. My guess is at this point none of them will be tendered a contract next year. They could get a shot at some playing time on a seller and we could get something useful back. Urias and a prospect (Jace Avina or Joseph Hernandez) for Candelerio would be interesting.
  14. Any chance Misi could be a bullpen option at the end of the year? I know it is crazy since he is in A+ with only 26 innings in, however Uribe and Misi in the 6th/7th would be nuts.
  15. I like Canha a bunch, Mets would likely eat some of his salary and wouldn't cost a ton. I agree Mariners not probably selling, Hernandez would be interesting. I think Justin Turner is ideal if the Red Sox dip below .500. Maybe in tandem with Adam Duvall to DH. Mitch Garver would be an interesting option as well at DH/3RD catcher it would allow. Caratini to DH occasionally as well. Garver has played a bit at 1st as well.
  16. If he would be cheap I would go for him in a second. At this point anyone who has a chance at being decent is a step up from Rowdy. My guess is that they would want a little more than that Tigers trade. He did hit 25 HR's in 2021 and is cheap and controllable. I could see like Strezlecki and a lesser prospect (say Max Lazar) being close. I would still probably do that.
  17. I would prefer Mark Canha from the Mets, he can play 1st and OF. I personally dont like Pham much as a person.
  18. I was looking through through AAA stats today and found a list of blocked/interesting trade options. OF/1B Dominic Canzone Ari. .343./.423/.648 16 hr. OF Jo Adell LAA .277/.363/.581 21 hr 7 sb 1B/OF Trey Cabbage LAA .297/.373/.603 21 hr 21 sb 1B Elehuris Montero Col .383/.435/.765 13 hr (not good in 100 mlb abs) OF Elier Hernandez Tex. .336/.405/.566 12 hr 6 sb 1B Alfonso Rivas SDP .320/.444/552 8 hr 7 sb 1B Luken Baker Stl .313/.437/654 20hr OF Estevian Florial NYY .288/.379/.597 19 HR 13 SB 3B/1B Bobby Dalbac .296/414/.638 18 hr 9 sb 1B Jared Young ChiC .326/.426/.605 13 hr. Obviously some guys are less blocked or on bad teams. There are also a bunch of AAAA type players that wouldn't be great options. I like Dominic Canzone from Arizona and Luken Baker from Stl a ton if we could get them at reasonable prices. Both are great bats not to old (Canzone 25 and Baker 26). Baker is likely more of a DH and Canzone a LF/4th OF who could play some 1B.
  19. Would a Burnes for Goldschmidt trade work on any level? Both have 1.5 years and will be similar salaries assuming Burnes gets a nice raise offseason. Burnes doesn't help the Cards much this year but would go a long way to helping their rotation. It would also open up a position for Gorman to play long term. We might need a bit extra in the way of a mid prospect or two since Burnes is younger. First thing to do to shake up the team needs to be to fire both hitting coaches. With the college season over there has to be 1 interesting candidate who could take over immediately. Then I would look at cutting some dead weight, Winker, Anderson, and maybe Rowdy if we could get a decent 1st base option. I am leaning towards trading Burnes or maybe Peralta around the deadline when Woody is back just to get some upside bat. I like the Justin Turner idea a lot.
  20. If the Busch/White end doesn't work maybe get Justin Foscue or Luisangel Acuna from the Rangers and one of Sheehan/Miller/Stone/Pepiot if back from his injury. Urias for Silseth seems about fair with Urias low production. If Urias comes around his value would be higher. Silseth has a live arm that would make a great reliever if starting doesn't work and only has 47 mlb innings at this point. He also is controllable longer and cheaper.
  21. If you were GM, what steps/moves would you do up to the deadline that would make this team a realistic contender? Hopefully without selling the farm or overspending. I get there are a bunch of people on the just sell boat, but lets try and stay optimistic. In my opinion, we need 2 good bats and a better lefty bullpen option. Trade 1) Burnes to Tex in 3 team deal. Tex gets Burnes, LAD gets SS Duran, Brewers get 2B Michael Busch, P Owen White, P Kyle Hurt, P Landon Knack We get a potential bat and frontline starter with 2 high upside starters. Also add in $ saved in Burnes for a future deal(s). Maybe 1 of the less Dodger prospects go to Tex. depending in how you value Duran. Tex. gets a frontline starter for 2 mostly blocked players and Dodgers get a high impact young SS for 3 pieces that don't hurt there system a bunch. Trade 2) Salvador Perez and Aroldis Chapman for Keston Huira, Ryan Middendorf, Joe Gray Jr., Will Rudy (Royals eat million a year of Perez future salary) We get a DH/3rd Catcher/1B Platoon in Perez who would be a great leader with our younger Latin core as well as the top LHP option. The Royals get 4 interesting pieces 2 who can help this year and beyond and 2 higher upside young options. If the Royals eat more overall money on Perez the 2 younger prospects would improve. Trade 3) Jeimer Candelario for Strezlecki and Cam Devanney Another solid bat for a meh reliever and blocked utility guy. Trade 4) Urias to LAA for Chase Silseth (if Urias not up to speed by deadline) Urias becomes the odd man out if Busch (or Turang) takes over 2B. The Angels acquire Moose and E Escobar which won't solve their IF problems. Move) send Wiemer down for Frelick, mainly to get the extra year of control on Weimer but then hopefully have an OF of Yeli, Frelick, Weimer when Weimer comes back. 1)LF Yeli, 2)C Contreras 3)3B Candelario 4)DH Perez 5)1B Tellez 6)SS Adames 7)CF Frelick/Weimer 8)2B Busch/Turang/Urias 9) RF Weimer/Anderson Bench)utl Miller, 3B Anderson, C Caratini, OF Perkins Rotation) Woody, Peralta, Teheran, Miley, White/Gasser/Houser/Rea/Lauer If Teheran and Miley can keep it up we would still have a solid 1-4 for the playoffs Pen) Williams, Chapman, Payamps, Peguero, Wilson, Houser, Milner, Megill/Bush/Miller/5/6 starter options I think the 3 trades are all relatively doable and make reasonable sense based on the trade value simulator. We would add to middle of the order bats and improve our farm system. Our rotation would clearly be worse but could stick with teams if Teheran and Miley stay strong and maybe one of our young arms White/Gasser/Silseth would emerge.
  22. He through a bullpen and said it would be a spring training like build up from there so around a month.
  23. I would give Gasser at least 2 starts here and then go Houser if Gasser isn't quite ready. With our offense I feel like we need to go with the upside plays. Say a pitcher like Gasser has 2 good starts and 1 bad one (like 2 starts 6 inning, 1 run and 1 start 4 innings 4 runs). Houser and Rea are more 5/6 innings and 3 runs. I feel like Gasser gives us a strong chance to play above .500 where as Houser/Rea could go 0-3 or 1-2 depending on offense hot streaks.
  24. I could be convinced to jump on board a Burnes trade but I would want a mlb ready bat and rotation piece. Manzardo, Montgomery, and Basabe would be pretty good. I would definitely try for Junior Caminero ( not that he is mlb ready. Would Junior Caminero, Luke Raley, and Luis Patino work. Maybe trade for a starter like Giolito to make up for missing out. I still think the Rangers would be the best fit. They have 3 or 4 hitters of interest and a couple young pitchers. Justin Foscue, Jack Leiter, and Owen White for Burnes and a reliever. (Not real high on Ezekiel Duran but he could work). Dodgers also of course Busch, one of their 3 or 4 young starters, and a 3rd AA starter
