Game 10: Dallas @ Green Bay - Sunday, November 13th 3:25 PM CT

Is it though? If you bring back Amos, maybe Ford turns out to be a find and now you can use Savage like you'd originally planned? I'm not completely giving up on Savage either. We've seen how good he can be. But stupid plays like that have killed them. BTW, anyone see what the issue was with Wyatt? Looked like a knee, but they didn't really show it. We REALLY can't afford to lose another young player to an ACL. -

Yeah, I thought he was just trying to pull him back, but going back and watching it, there was NO reason for that. Difference between him and Amos. He's trying to...what? Get a strip and score? Amos(and it looks like Ford) is prioritizing just being reliable and smart and Savage is I guess pressing? I know he hasn't made the big plays expected of him, but you can't force that. And Rudy Ford AGAIN...man. They look like they've found a STEAL there. I'm a little bit behind, but he's been a BEAST. -

I loved how he tracked that ball. I think it was Julio who had a big problem with drops early in his career and he talked about how he would make sure he caught 300 balls a day from the Jugs machine every day with his hands because he was a body catcher. That's what this kid needs to do. He is SO incredibly freakishly athletic... Man that was pretty. -

This is pretty damn similar to the situation where Rodgers came in and gave Packers fans SOME hope for the future. 3rd year, neither had shown much in the first couple years...we'll see. The OL is doing it's job. Christian Watson is doing...well, he's getting open at least. There's just another part of playing WRer he's forgetting. So it's not quite the same, he doesn't have weapons, but it could still be interesting. -
I see all these rumors around Allen, but I don't see the problem. He's clearly a 3 point specialist and not an elite defender, but he's also not like Donovan Mitchell or this black hole defensively. He's not gonna make any All NBA Defensive teams, but he's competitive and he's a sniper. I think Carter and Beauchamp have shown enough that you can trade Allen, Hill, Nowra as I said. I guess depending on the player, you even include that 2029 1st...which could obviously be very valuable as Giannis could be gone, Middleton and Jrue would be ~36 or so. But if you can add a star, sure. But I don't know how many players like that are going to be available. It should be a very active trade deadline with all the teams tanking for Victor Wembanyama or whatever. The love child between Rudy Gobert and Kevin Durant who's the biggest NBA prospect since LeBron(so I'm told). I just don't see the point of trading Allen JUST to trade him. It's almost certainly going to be a contract a team wants to dump(which is fine, as long as they're an upgrade).
-
I actually thought he'd looked like he'd improved quite a bit this year...he just hadn't been hitting his shots, but season's early and small sample. His overall game though looks much improved. His defense had been much better, he hasn't just been a black hole offensively. He made a few REALLY nice passes last game, playing smarter and within the system. All of that is kinda moot though if he continues to shoot so poorly as that's always going to be where most of his value comes, so I understand the larger point, but the smaller things, I definitely think there's a big improvement there. Beauchamp is in a whole different league defensively. Even raw and still figuring things out and not communicating as well as he can, you can at least put him on the other teams top wing and he's going to make things difficult.
-
The Lions are GONNA be a problem. I don't know if they've actually passed the Packers right now if the Packers were healthy and...everything didn't fall apart, BUT they are building for the future, they're doing it the right way, and they've got plenty of capital. A 1st this year that will be top ~10...they have the Rams 1st which looks like it'll be top ~15, they've got a nice OL, they have a premiere edge, they've got St. Brown and Williams hasn't even seen the field and... Detroit is gonna be a problem if they get their hands on Bryce Young or Stroud...I think. ------ Holy #$%!!!! Vikings can't get a TD from the half yard line, the Bills FUMBLE and the Vikings score! I don't know why but I was kinda rooting for it(I guess just to see weird things happen...but I still feel dirty about it).
-
I'm also pretty sure that Irsay talked with several other former players, among them a couple of black players. At least that's what McAfee said(and I think he'd know).

2026 is more the window people are looking at for the US Soccer team, right? I don't follow Soccer, but that's kinda the tone I've heard. That we had some young studs who weren't quite ready yet...or maybe they would just be in their prime in '26? I'd actually like to follow the Soccer team a little bit, but I am wholly ignorant about the state of US Soccer OTHER than it sounds like more athletes are getting into the sport and we're investing more in the infrastructure....I guess?

Lauer to Front Office: "Time to put up or shut up"
UpandIn replied to Brewcrew82's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
II do not know what you are talking about. Yes, they haven't tried to sign Burnes. This was the subject of a VERY long thread that has been discussed and is continually discussed on this forum. What POINT are you making with regard to this ACTUAL discussion? The Rams stadium cost 5 billion dollars. That's not the BREWERS. We're talking about maintaining AmFam, not building a brand new stadium in an entirely different location. Lets just recap the ACTUAL statement made... Now how you interpreted it; You...seeing the disconnect or...no? -
Give me literally ONE example? You really didn't articulate any though. He hadn't really hit AAA pitching. I showed you he had...at 22 years old as a Shortstop. Ah...yes, the old, "Everyone would agree with me because I say so" argument. You miss the part where Tampa Bay "handed" Adames a job based on nearly identical AAA numbers? Ya know, the team we should model ourselves after? So that's one GM just right off the top of my head.
-
I mean, it probably...almost definitely is a big overpay, but if teams are calling the Brewers for Burnes, then...demand a big overpay. 3 pitchers who could all be in the rotation next year and a potential ROY candidate at 3B/1B. But, like you say, this Burnes kid...he's pretty good. Which is why I'd try and extend him or make a team offer such a deal before trading him(at the moment...in a year, it's going to look much less appealing).
-
THAT is his 100 MPH fastball? What is the spin rate on that fastball? That's got some pretty impressive movement. A little arm side run and sinking action. Huh...I've been excited just reading and following the results mostly, but watching how easy that ball comes out and how it moves, it's got me that much more excited for his future.
-
Yeah, sure, there's some validity to the argument that you can leave him down there and let him get stronger...he's only 22(23 to start next year), so it's not like we're talking about a 27 year old prospect. There's NO validity to his argument. He IS a 22 year old prospect and pointing out that for the last 3 months of the season, he was outstanding simply shows he's developing. It's not about excuses, it's not about the "buts," it's evidence he's a good prospect. I'd rather see him playing everyday than play the "super utility" role that's been suggested and I've said that. Jace Peterson was great at it. Young players generally struggle. But Jopal tried to paint Turang's season as unsuccessful and has some WILDLY unrealistic expectations. Turang AAA=175 Games 14 HRs(10 in the 2nd half of this past season). 43 Stolen Bases .277 .365 .391 .756 Adames AAA=196 Games 15 HRs(3 on rehab assignments last year). .280 .359 .417 .777 So if you want to argue we don't need him with Urias/Brosseau/Adames/Wong, or, as I'd argue, he's better served getting regular ABs, that's a TOTALLY different argument than he needs to..."fortify" himself against the likes of Verlander and Kershaw.
-
I mean, it's more just kinda common sense. When you hit AAA at 21 and you hold your own, it's impressive. Then when you finish up the last half of the year and you...what was the metric he needed to reach, "take apart" AAA pitching...I wouldn't say there are any buts. It's a really tough concept, but it's evidence of GROWTH. You said why not bring him up until he's had more success. I showed you he had the success and...now it's moving goalposts. Let me ask you a question...seriously. How many months would YOU like to see him..."fortified" in AAA? Also, what do you think fortified means and how does that apply to a shortstop OFFENSIVELY?
-
What I'm saying is there's no upside in that contract. You're paying Adames like he's already put up a couple of 6 or 7 WAR seasons. He's put up a 4.4 WAR season in which he had an OBP under .300. He's really good, but you're paying extra up front...which hurts you, and again, you're paying him CLOSE to what Correa got last year for the Twins as a FA. He's not in that league. Not yet. You should be getting at least a 5th year if you're willing to commit to 85M.
-
I don't think that's true in 2022 at all. In fact I think it's just the opposite. Long term statistics may be skewed by the steroid era, but it's quite a bit more common to see pitchers thrive into their late 30s than it is position players. Edit-I think it's 50/50 Burnes takes that deal, maybe you add a 6th year mutual option for 35M with a 5M buyout to make it 135. That's what deGrom got and again, he was just better, more dominant, a different level than even Burnes. But I wouldn't go past the 5 ~135.

Because I'd rather have 4 than 3...

I thought it was obvious. The GM and POBO is not the same job...?

Lauer to Front Office: "Time to put up or shut up"
UpandIn replied to Brewcrew82's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
He's a nice player. Zero reason? I guess it depends. 3/30? That'd be worth it...if you didn't get Abreu. Career hitter; .262 .351 .459 .810 He's a nice switch hitting DH. I suspect he'll end up getting overpaid, but...there is definitely reason to sign Bell. -
https://www.truebluela.com/2016/6/15/11951878/yordan-alvarez-contract-dodgers-cuba-international-signing-period Just an example of what almost limitless resources can do. Yordan Alvarez Oniel Cruz And Yardian Alvarez, the highest rated prospect of the 3 who had...some issues and was out of baseball, but is now back after some maturity issues(though who knows if he's still got the triple digit FB and the three plus pitches). But they spent 100M on international FAs. They just traded Alvarez, Cruz and kept the other prospects, but MAN, what a juggernaut if they'd kept Yordan, arguably the best put hitter in baseball right now....with respect to Judge and his historic season.
-
Do you think the Dodgers were in danger of losing Friedman? Theo and Hoyer were POBP and GM and they were not the same job. One is a superior of the other. One makes the final call. Attanasio invests heavily in his front office...and if he thinks a guy who just won a WS, who came up with Friedman in Tampa is worth it, he'll make one the POBO and one the GM. WE made Stearns the POBP to promote to prevent other teams. I'm not sure that's primarily how it's used so much as it's how we did it.
-
I don't care if it's true. I just hope it takes one of the stupid, unrealistic trades we've been suggesting on here in order to facilitate it(mine as much/more than anyone's....other than maybe Grayson Rodriguez+Jackson Holliday+2 more prospects?). But c'mon Andrew Friedman...pony up Miguel Vargas, Bobby Miller, Ryan Pepiot and Gavin Stone, we'll throw in another prospect if need be. I mean, this IS an organization that traded Yordan Alvarez and Oniel Cruz for a couple middle relievers, so maybe they're not as smart as I originally thought.
-
Well, I think they're all unrealistic(just the 3 team aspect of it), but so are most of the ones I've proposed, but this at least look closer to the type of value he's worth! 1-I'd do it. Get a closer(I am without merit, I know, but I don't trust Williams). Diaz...high OBP is always nice. And we were never getting 4 top 7 prospects from LAD, so I'd do this. You're underselling Fairbanks in this one. 2-I like it as well...the only issue I have is 3 years of Murphy while you're waiting for the pitching, but Hancock is a nice pitching prospect. A solid step above Gasser....but the shoulder injuries are concerning, so I'd probably pass on this one, but...that's just based on glancing at a scouting report. 3-I like this, but I think ChW are going with Vaughn as their everyday 1B(though Burnes could change their mind). Kopech...if we can unlock him, he could definitely break out. 4-I'd definitely jump on this. I think Cabrera has #2/3 type stuff(if everything clicks...higher). Scott seems like the type of guy we could get a little more out of. Marlins trade from a position of strength...and get a couple years of Mullins. I think I'd go 1, 4, 2, 3.
-
Yes...they're very good. It also helps when for the majority of that time, he spent more in Latin America and scouting than the next 5 teams combined...and that the Yankees are maybe the most recognizable American Sports franchise in the world. Stearns had to build up the resources to develop any type of infrastructure in Latin America and it still pales in comparison to the Yankees(and again, teams like the NYY, LAD tend to win when going after the top player if the money is close). Saying Cashman would be "worthless without the Yankees payroll," is...WAY over the top. But lets also keep in mind he's spending what the Brewers total payroll has averaged during Stearns time in Milwaukee on Cole, Stanton and Chapman and then Josh Donaldson in a salary dump. That right there is 108M dollars. Now, if the Brewers could spend roughly twice their salary, do they keep Hader? He'd have been their 4th highest paid reliever. Do they sign or trade for someone? I DO think Stearns would operate more like Friedman in LA. The team that let Seager go because he was too costly, that let Grienke, Scherzer and among others leave because they didn't think they were worth signing them, not because they couldn't. It's ALSO worth noting, it's easier to build an elite farm system when you can fill holes without trading players and or let players develop an extra year because you've got players waiting in the wings. They could let Grandal go with Will Smith, they may be able to let Smith go because of Cartaya. And again, they can go into Latin America and have prospects wanting to sign with them as opposed to the Brewers who have to be more deliberate and...pick up the players who are left, OR just offer more. No sport is on an even playing field. The Heat and the Lakers will always be bigger FA destinations than the Bucks(all things being equal...which they're not at the moment). So there are just so many built in advantages to running the Yankees than there are the Brewers...or about 25 other teams in the league. This makes it very difficult to compare Apples to Apples Stearns and Cashman...but I'll take Stearns over the long haul. Unfortunately, Stearns couldn't really start signing LA players until ~2018 due to the penalties from the Gilbert Lara signing, so we'll have to wait and see what dividends those players play, but the structure he left in place should be extraordinarily helpful moving forward.
