  1. Maybe we can ship Suppan off to some team in the California Penal League while we're at it.
  2. MLB teams can't actually trade with Japanese teams, can they?
  3. His name makes me laugh, thus this is a good signing.
  4. I just can't believe that the Giants are going to spend that much on another starting pitcher, when they already have Zito's bloated contract. I could be wrong, but really, I'm not going to believe this until we hear more than "the Giants are planning to make an offer." We've been hearing that for a couple weeks now regarding the Angels.
  5. I have to be honest, I don't get this? He's the guy constantly brought up in threads as someone we should trade for. Though I think trading for Cain makes a lot more sense than Shoppach ever did, personally.
  6. I agree. Like I said when he officially left the Brewers, I hope people remember the Turnbow who was dominate and a big contributor to the team's success for a while, and not his scuffles.
  7. I think we could end up with an unexpected player starting at 3B...kind of like when Melvin landed Corey Koskie a couple years back. I think something is brewing, though we won't know for a while.
  8. Well, if the Brewers are even considering offering Sheets more than a one year deal at this point, it becomes even more imperative to nail down the CC situation. I doubt they can sign CC and then pay Sheets something like 30 million for 2 years. Would just be tying up too much of the annual payroll in two guys, even if it's for two years.
  9. I don't think anyone was seriously mad at the Brewers for trading him, especially given the contract he got later from Houston (which pretty much everyone said was idiotic). He would be intriguing because he would be fairly useful back in the Brewers lineup. Of course, his defense would not be an asset at all. Also, if we were to trade for him, we wouldn't want to give up much, and Houston would have to eat a large portion of his contract. So, it probably wouldn't work out. Maybe he could go to either the Dodgers or Angels, if one loses out on both Manny and Tex.
  10. Melvin was probably having his secretary forward all his calls to voice mail, in case Sabathia's agent called. Branyan frantically tried to call Doug for weeks after the post-season, but Melvin never got his messages...
  11. Maybe we can finally bring Gary Sheffield back to Milwaukee. (And yes, that should be in blue.)
  12. I hope this means the Brewers will try to find a full time 3B. Russ contributed in a big way last summer, but players like him are easily replaced. Good luck to him, anyway.
  13. I don't think that would be typical in an arbitration process. It's usually just the team's figure vs the player's desired figure.
  14. I really don't like the idea of signing Dunn and trying to shoe horn him into the 1B position. I think we've seen enough of the "square peg in a round hole" approach to defense for the Brewers. He should really play LF.
  15. I don't think they should deal Parra, but it is dangerous to bank on the "fact" that he will develop into a top of the rotation starter.
  16. The deadline is this Sunday (if I understand correctly). That was Peavy's point. Anyway...theoretically if CC did sign the Brewers' rumored offer, and they did re-sign Sheets for one more year...even if his salary is 16 million or so...I think the Brewers could swing that. After one year Sheets would be off the books.
  17. MLB Trade Rumors says that the reports about the Angels "switching focus from Tex to CC" are false, according to the Angels GM. So it would seem that Milwaukee and New York are still the only two teams to make any sort of offer to Sabathia.
  18. I don't like the idea. Bush is relatively affordable, and has been reliable as a starter. If we are going to trade Fielder, Bush most certainly be packaged with him. It would just be creating too many holes.
  19. I think I remember that supposedly the doctors said Wood couldn't pitch more than 50 pitches in one game, ever again. So that pretty much rules out him being a starter.
  20. Yeah...a lot of the music channels became the Sirius versions. I'm kind of annoyed...the station they replaced Fred on 44 with has these really inane disc jockeys that don't add much to the station, other than making it sound like some low rent FM clone. Stuff like that, coupled with the already subpar audio quality, is really making me consider cancelling at the end of this month (I did a 12 month deal). I just don't know what I'd listen to otherwise, as for the most part, I hate the radio stations around here. I would also miss MLB Home Plate a lot, despite the recent changes.
  21. I'm not sure what you mean by this. Other than probably not retaining Sabathia, and Torres deciding to retire, it doesn't look like we're losing anyone major. The way things seem to be going, we could very well have Sheets for one more year, if he accepts arbitration. The only thing that has happened this off-season so far is, well, nothing has happened so far.
  22. Well, I doubt Milwaukee is an attractive destination for any decent Asian players. Most of them seem to want to play on the Pacific coast, or in a big city like New York or Chicago. It would probably make more sense for the Brewers to concentrate on scouting an area like Latin America, if they are going to look for foreign help at all.
  23. I doubt that gets it done...I bet it would have to be closer to 4 yrs/$60 million.
  24. Well, all three of Hughes, Kennedy, and Cabrera seem to be the New York overhype types at this point...but the salary savings would be huge...and if you could get two of those three, chances are at least one of them will develop into a decent everyday MLB player. So I would probably do it, and go with signing someone like Baldelli or re-signing Kapler to help out.
  25. I don't get the arguments against voting in some of the so called "borderline" guys. I'm not saying it should turn into being like the NFL Hall of Fame, where basically any guy with a somewhat notable career seems to get an induction, but I don't think letting in guys like Alan Trammel and Dave Parker would really diminish the accomplishments of anyone else in the MLB Hall of Fame. Both of those two were impact players in their day, and had fairly lengthy careers, so I don't see why they should be excluded. I also think the idea of sticking basically only to about three major stats when considering induction is rather silly. Then again, I also dislike how only writers get a vote...there are even writers who haven't covered baseball in years who still get votes, if I understand correctly. How does that make any sense?
