  1. Only April 16th, so kinda hard to make any conclusions about the success or failure of what the Brewers did and did not do in the off season. However, I don't believe any of the pitchers that were mentioned as possible acquisitions for the Brewers (Archer, Cobb, Lynn, Darvish) have gotten off to great starts. Arrieta has been respectable. Also, while Yelich has spent much of the early season on the DL, the key components of that trade (Brinson, Harrison, and Diaz) are all off to very slow starts at their respective levels. Brinson's numbers are brutal so far. Yes, I know, all these guys are young, but .131 BA, 1 RBI, 20/3 strikeout to walk ratio...that is beyond a "slow start" for an every day player.
  2. Yes, it's easier to be a fan when your team is 11-1, but gotta say, developing a lot of respect for Mets fans in this series. Jay Bruce catches a fly ball in the top of the 9th with the Mets losing 5-1 and all you hear a loud "Bruuuuuuuuuce" throughout the stadium. Then the bottom of the 9th starts and lots of "Let's go Mets" chants going on.
  3. No, not really, in a busier urban area the left lane is the slow lane for some reason that I cannot understand. With rare exception (downtown Chicago being one of them) there aren't on-ramps merging into the left hand lane, so why the hell is it slower than the other lanes? That is true at some points and I have especially noticed it going East and West bound through the Zoo interchange in Milwaukee since the construction has been completed (for the most part) in that area. Here is what I witness, 2 things actually. A) They took away all the left lane on and off ramps to improve the flow of traffic. This seems logical. However, now, for example, going West bound on I-94 through the interchange, the 2 right lanes split off to go to I41 north and I41 south (although the connection to 41S is not quite complete yet). There is more traffic that wants to continue west bound on 94 than wants to "split off", so you go from 4 lanes of traffic to 2 lanes west bound through the core, then back to 4 lanes once you get through the core, then back to 3. There is also less traffic entering I94 west of the interchange than is already on it in the left 2 lanes. So, this creates less traffic in those right lanes (that come from I41)...which leads to... B) Cars in the left lane see this and get into the "faster" right lanes and then a mile or two down the road merge back into the left lane when traffic gets back to "normal". Guess what chain effect this has? It further slows down the left lane as all these "line jumpers" are merging back into the left lane.
  4. Looks like I was wrong. Went to the MLB Live Facebook page and do not see a link to the game. So, looks like you do need to have a Facebook account to view it. Oh Well.
  5. Perhaps I'll be proven wrong, but I'm not convinced that you have to have a Facebook account to view the game. Never opened a FB account and don't plan to. I just went to the MLB Live Facebook site and was able to view the entire site and start watching the replay of the Rockies/Padres game that is on the top of the site without logging in. It asked me to login a few times, but I just hit escape or "Not now" and it went away. If it turns out that you do have to log in, then I'm glad that it appears that they are just doing this for weekday afternoon games when I usually just tune it in on the radio anyways.
  6. Texting and/or checking social media and Driving (sorry, need to put this one out there about once a year). If you think you are good at it, you are wrong. You stink at it. No one is good at it. You can't stay in your lane and your speed is inconsistent. Not only are you a danger, you are a complete annoyance. One minute you are on top of the car in front of you, the next minute you are giving a 10 car gap. At the very least, if for some reason you lack the will power to not look at your phone while you are driving, please get out of the left lane. Also, on the topic of the left lane. In a busier Urban area, especially during rush hour, the left lane is not really a passing lane. It's more of a lane for people who are focused on their driving and for the most part, keeping up with the car in front of them (going with the flow of the lane). In more rural less traveled 4 lane highways, the left lane should only be used for passing and when driving on these rural highways, please, I beg you, use your cruise control and just go ONE speed!
  7. I wonder what this is about. I also saw him saying something towards the Brewer dugout at one of his ABs during Saturday's game: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/willson-contreras-explains-expletive-laden-223759480.html Mentions something that happened in Venezuela in 2014. Current players on the Brewers active roster from Venezuela are Chacin, Pina, Aquilar, Arcia, and Perez. Wonder who it is, anyone know?
  8. Did Aguilar have about 7 Red Bulls before that at bat?
  9. Just never know. Brewers can't score runs....last thing they needed was to face a pitcher like Hendricks. Hendricks seems to be cruising along..then just like that....4 runs. Baseball, go figure.
  10. Several teams with a scheduled day off today. Odd for a Friday.
  11. There is a rule that allows umps to not allow a play if he thinks you let a ball drop on purpose? Huh? Never heard of that.
  12. Sergio Garcia just totally "tin cupped" the 15th hole. Four balls on the green, a few about pin high, that ended up rolling back into the water. 5th one was the charm. He took a 13 on the hole. Tied for highest score ever on one hole at the Masters Edit: Actually it was 5 balls in the water!
  13. I hate tipping, but I think I'm a pretty decent tipper. I usually calculate 20%, then round up to the next whole dollar. I remember when 15% was considered the standard tip...not sure how or when it got to 18%-20%. Dining tipping is easy, it's all the other "services".....hair cuts, luggage handling, room cleaning service at hotels, etc that I struggle with. The one that really gets me is trash collection. Usually right around Christmas time we get a little card put in our paper box wishing us happy holidays from Waste Management. I view that as a "Hey, how bout a tip?" suggestion. First of all, I don't know if I agree with tipping them. They drive up, the arms come out and grab the garbage container, empty into their truck and move to the next house....and I think they are decently paid for that. Secondly, even if I felt like tipping them, how would I do it. My wife and I are generally at work when they are collecting our garbage, and I'm not going to leave an envelope of money or gift card taped to our mail box (that I would have to label because otherwise they would not know what it was). I know not everyone tips their trash collector, but I also know some people do (and mail carriers - seriously?).
  14. When I was younger, in the 70 and 80's there were only about 20 or so Brewer games on TV a year, so most of the time I was listening to games on the radio. I grew up listening to Uecker and as they were playing some highlights from him yesterday morning on WTMJ I realized how sad it will be when he is no longer the voice of the Brewer radio broadcasts. Having said that, I would agree that his playcalling in recent years has slipped. If he gets excited about a ball off the bat, I have learned to tamper my excitement as I have been fooled to much by the get up, get up......get off that wall.....caught type calls. The link that was posted in one of the first posts in this topic gives me an error message and I did not hear Uecker's call of the Braun HR and am having trouble finding the full call. What happened? Did he originally announce it as a strikeout?
  15. This is pretty much 100% how I feel as well.
  16. So putting a shift on when you are ahead by 7 is in the 9th inning is ok, but bunting against that shift is not? Everyone keeps saying, it's not like it was a no-hitter. I think the bunt would have been even more justifiable if it were a no-hitter. What team wants to be no-hit? If you are going to give me a chance to break up a no-hitter, I'm going to take it, and in that situation the pitcher should be upset with his manager for calling a shift, not the other team. In regards to bigredrobbo's 3 points. I also have never heard of # 1 being a thing. I definitely agree with #3. However, #2, there are some things that would be very cringy to me when you are ahead by a lot late in the game like stealing and bunting for example (with the exception of bunting against the shift, to me that is always 100% acceptable regardless of the situation). In general, I don't really have an issue with "unwritten" rules. There are unwritten rules in a lot of situations in everyday life that just make common sense. Same in baseball.
  17. Has anyone tried to go online to purchase tickets for this game? I keep getting an error that states, "We're sorry. We are experiencing technical difficulties contacting the team's ticketing system. Click here to go to the schedule if you wish to search for another game or alternative seats. If you continue to receive this error, please contact Customer Service." If I choose a different game I don't get the error.
  18. I only got to the 2nd post in this thread and then could not focus. How bad is San Diego that Clayton Richard is their opening day starter?!? I'm in an 11 owner NL only fantasy baseball league and Clayton Richard is usually one of the 3 or 4 starters that is available in the "undrafted" pile.
  19. That is awesome. FYI - don't need to have a Twitter account to view it (as is true with most things on Twitter).
  20. Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. No further discussion needed.
  21. If it's true, I like that it's only 3 years.
  22. If he truly did have a source, I hope the source did not get in any trouble. At the same time, not sure how smart it was of the source to keep feeding him information. I don't know HH personally. So, kind of hard to make any comments about his character. However, I did find the recent poll he made regarding himself (You believe me, you don't believe me, etc) a bit unnecessary.
  23. I use a fitbit Alta that I purchased a year ago for a little over $100 on Amazon. I can look up steps/miles/sleep through an app on my phone. I also set it to try to get in 250 steps an hour and it reminds me 10 minutes before every hour if I have not reached that goal. Also texts that I get on my phone transfer through to my fitbit as well. The main purpose I use it for is to motivate me to do more walking (my job is not physically demanding). I read something a few months back that fitness trackers really do not do anything to help one's health because most people start ignoring it after the novelty wears off. That has not been my experience. I've had mine for a year and I'm still motivated to get 10,000 steps a day in. I know I have done a lot more walking because of that motivation.
  24. American League East = Extremely Hitter friendly. Wouldn't surprise me if moving from the AL East to the NL Central carves half a run off a pitcher's ERA. Possibly. Still would like to have seen him have at least a few seasons of 200+ innings. I'm not arguing that he wouldn't strengthen the Brewers pitching staff, but I think I would be more comfortable about it if he signs somewhere closer to $15M/yr than I would if it's close to $20M/yr. Since, from what I understand, he turned down a $17.5M qualifying offer. I can't see it being less than $18M/yr. A little too much imho.
  25. Not to mention. Tropicana = Very pitcher friendly. Miller Park = Very hitter friendly.
