I think the hiccup with extending Sal is that he doesn't hit arbitration for a couple of seasons, so he will be pretty cheap until he is already 30.

Unfortunately, more and more, it feels that Turang has priced himself out of the MKE market. If Hoerner extended for $141MM, and is both older and not as good of hitter, the writing seems to be on the wall.

So isn't that why they went out and got Harrison, Drohan, and Sproat, no? More depth, because it is always needed.

Just so interesting the statement that the Crew would like another trustworthy (is that meaning proven?) righthander in the pen. Very unlikely there is a Megill trade coming, then. Unless it is in June when they have some young guys having proven things? They certainly have a lot of arms as options to work in the pen.

If Sal gets to 200 hits, being around 10 homers isn't going to matter.

Actually I noticed that in the box score on MLB. The last pitch to 2 different hitters was listed over 97. Certainly exciting, agreed.

Completely agree. Indeed, with the starting pitching depth, shouldn't the Crew have 2 or 3 of those types in the pen, so their are only a few 1 inning pitchers?

Steve, I was a little surprised to see Lockridge be mentioned that way. I had been thinking that spot was also going to be up for grabs.

3B for a year or two, then deal when the kids get to MKE?

Unsure it is likely the Crew will decline the $14MM option next year, I'd say. Seems Wild Bill at that price will still be a good deal next year.

At least this year it is not "too few first or third basemen", going into the season.

Agreed. Very reasonable thoughts. Out of the fan base, though, is the concern that this philosophy, along with major focus on the young player acquisition & development side of the house, will continue to tease with playoff appearances without really actually giving the chance to win the World Series. Freddy is the specific case where keeping him only for 2026, even if the overall cost (not getting high level prospects, but only a draft pick) is high, the potential to reach the World Series has likely diminished. And if the club's ability to find gems in Latin America or via the draft would drop, it will be much tougher to stay at the level of making the playoffs. One thing I will be curious about, as some of the current prospect group gets closer to the majors, is whether multiple examples of the Chourio contract will be extended to the youngsters? Will the front office be fine with Made & Pena on 8yr, X million deals at the same time as Chourio? Would they offer Turang, Misiorowski (Priester? Frelick?) longer term multi million dollar deals, or will the can kicking and reliance on the farm system to supply cheaper, but not as major league ready players, continue?

Really liked seeing Fangraphs have Sproat & Williams with 50 FV. Possibly means Sproat rivaling Henderson as the top pitching prospect in the system, and Williams being with or ahead of Pratt for future projection. All of course while mourning Peralta leaving. :-(

Love this, Jake, thank you for the analysis! The one I tripped on, so had to check, is that you were saying Made is 19, but I was thinking he is actually 18. So I checked; birthdate May 8, 2007. All this great stuff, and he won't be 19 until early May!
