Does anyone have the book on this Folyd character? I would like to see the bats come tonight.

Floyd is one of the Phillies better pitching prospects, but he hasn't really done much since AA (last time his ERA was under 4.00) Last year at AAA he was pretty bad - 6.16 ERA, WHIP over 1.6. He has had command issues this year posting as many walks as K's (21) in 35 innings. I think the Brewers have a really good shot this game as long as Bush can be competitive through 6 innings.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Gavin Floyd was the Phillies 1st round choice in the 2001 draft. Prior to this season he had made 8 starts in the Major's compiling a 3-2 record with an ERA of 6.63.

Gavin Floyd

6'5" 210 lbs

Age 23

Had a very rough 2005, getting beat up in 4 big league starts and 23 starts in Triple-A.

"At 23, Floyd needs to learn how to pitch to disciplined hitters, any one of whom can turn around his fastball or hit a mistake curve over buildings." -Baseball Prospectus

Also says he has a "mediocre fastball."

The key to that BP quote is "disciplined hitters"...which means patient hitters. They're getting better at plate discipline, but I have a good feeling about tonight. 2/3 from Mets and 2 or 3/3 from Phillies would really be great! I really believe this is where the Brewers start putting it all together and where everyone steps up!

No Brewers player has faced Gavin Floyd. Only 3 Phillies players have faced David Bush, for a combined 10 ABs. So, this one could be interesting from the standpoint that both teams will be relying heavily on advanced scouting, rather than experience.

The Brewers are actually the most patient team in the the NL, with an average of 3.91 P/PA. If Floyd is willing to give walks, these guys will probably take them. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Wow, I didn't realize that. It still seemed that this year there was a lot of "free swinging" strikeouts. But I was wrong. This should be a big win tonight!

I would like to thank the designers of The Keg for the roof. Without the roof there would be no baseball tonight for me to watch on TV, and that would sadden me.

As an aside, how the heck could the Twinkies design their new digs and NOT put a retractable roof on it?

If your team was stuck in the Dumpodome for as long as they have, you wouldn't want anything with a roof either.

That and the fact that Minnesota doesn't want to pay for a new stadium, so one with an expensive retractable roof was out of the question.

I think the fact that they live in Minnesota may answer any questions about their intelligence that you might have.

It takes 3 pitches to strike out doesn't it? Just being a smarty pants...

Heck of a pitch by Bush on Howard there. Let's get some runs! I want to know what it feels like to have an early lead again.
