Well, that was a mighty blast wasn't it.

Keep lighting up the C-it-go gas pump, boys!

Prince destroyed that baseball!!
On the Marlins fan site, there was someone who said something along the lines of "Fielder smashed that meatball, and he's a vegetarian." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Fantastic 6th inning for Manny...he's gotta be done, though, because he was at 96 pitches before that inning.

Is Manny Parra following the Dave Bush style of pitching? Shaky in the first couple of innings and then finishing strong. It is nice to see Manny calm down and actually trust his stuff and not over pitch. Great start by Manny today.

Nice recovery by Parra tonight. After the first two innings he was great. 8 K's, 6 H, 2 BB. 5 of the hits and one of the walks were in the first two innings.

That second HR by Prince has to be his biggest blast of the year. He's had a bunch of warning track shots and line drive homers...nice to see the big mash.

He had the longest homerun of any Brewer this year before that, against Petit, I think.

Sure didn't expect Manny to put up a quality start after the first two innings.

Poor Nelson...I think I saw his last hit. A 9th inning blast to win an exhibition game at Dodger Stadium. That was quite some time ago.

Gonna give some props to Macha here for really understanding his bullpen. CV is by far the best guy they have against switch hitters(outside of hoffman) because of how dominant his change up is. This was the perfect time to use CV and then next inning you go with Coffey or DiFelice to cut down the righties.

By the end of the year Parra will be our 2nd best starter. He is throwing strikes now and while he gave up 3 runs early a lot of it was just weak grounders finding holes. He really does have #2 potential and should easily be a #3 at worst once he gets in more innings.

You mean Yost never knew how to manage the bullpen?

I am starting to think we actually have a pretty strong bullpen. I think Carlos has turned the corner. Coffey is good unless he has to face a lefty. DiFelice has been great. Stetter is good and can face more than just lefties. Then you have Hoffman who has been very solid.

I agree for sure. We have a quality closer, we have a strong option in CV for times when we have a lot of lefties/switch hitters up. We have a strong option vs LH with stetter who can also get out marginal RH fine so can get out a PH unlike Shouse. We have DiFelice who seems very solid so far and Coffey who really kills pure RH setups. On top of all that we got McClung who is a bit hit or miss but when he has it is very strong so can be used in those 2-3 run type games where you can ditch him if he is not throwing stikes. Finally a lot of those guys can go 2 IP if needed which means we can use fewer RP per game. Last year almost every RP worried me but this year only a couple do and Macha seems to only be using them in low pressure situations.

Then you add on top of all that the fact that Yost was terrible at maximizing a bullpen and Macha seems to have a clue. I really like where we are headed in that area.

I couldn't agree more on the bullpen usage. I think BA was alluding to the same thing when CV was in for the 7th. Use the best option in the highest leverage situation. None of this Yostian dogmatic "he's my 7th inning guy". Hats off to Macha.

10 pitches for Carlos, 10 pitches for DiFelice, and 12 pitches for Hoffman. That is a great finish to a game for a bullpen. On top of that after the first two innings Parra gave up one hit and walked one guy. Great game for the Crew all around.
