Anyone that thought this team was going to win over 80 games was kidding themselves. The pitching is no better than it was last year and in 2 years, we will have another Suppan on our hands (Wolf).

 

For the second year in a row, our pitching is going to be atrocious.

This team is putrid garbage.. The incompetence on this club shows no bounds. They have one of worst pitching staffs in the league, yet again. I don't care what the consequences are, I want Melvin gone. His judgement has been horrible, and since Jack Z left, this team is spiraling into oblivion. As for Macha, its hard to blame a guy who is clearly suffering from some kind of senile dementia. Send him to the nursing home.

I find it hard to blame a loss like this on the pitching when your offense only manages 4 hits against Livan Hernandez. Ryan Zimmerman saw more pitches than Braun and Fielder combined today.

 

Just one of those ugly games where nothing really went right. Go get them tomorrow, Sharpie. I'm not too optimistic, but the last time I went into the series finale assuming a sweep they actually won, so who knows.

Good point crewcrazy, I was not expecting them to beat Carpenter and they did, all be it barely after Hoffman almost blew. But they still won. So hopefully DD can find his groove tomorrow finally. He can't pitch any worse then he did his first two starts of the season.

As bad as this team has been over the first couple weeks, they've only lost 7 games. Every team has bad stretches over the course of a season. Randy Wolf is not Jeff Suppan, and I really don't want to open that up again.

Going to all three games this series. As disappointing as the results have been, the Brewer turnout has been GREAT. I moved around to a bunch of different sections with my Gallardo jersey on and didn't get hassled by anyone. Nats Park is pretty good, but it will be a lot better when they develop the area around it (and field a winning team of course!)

Seconded on the Brewer fan turnout. I saw at least one Gallardo jersey between Friday night and today, maybe it was yours, BrewerTerp.

Those of you who found this one hard to follow on TV, radio or internets might want to be glad you weren't at Nationals Park (although it's true that the home fans haven't been a hassle...I think they're too delighted at winning). This was a game to try a fan's soul, especially a fan who traveled hundreds of miles to watch in person.

 

cnycerveceros, I don't think your post was ranty. (Phrases like "putrid garbage" fall more into the category of rant.) Today's game inspired similar thoughts in my head, and I wonder how the organization might respond if the road trip continues to suck. Can they feel confident that enough guys will rebound enough to turn things around, at least to the point of respectability; or would "staying the course" harm 2010 fan revenue too much (for a franchise that depends on it so heavily)? There are already some in this forum who have vowed not to buy another Brewers ticket in 2010,and a dismal April or April/May is bound to have some effect on ticket sales and related revenue later in the season.

 

I will say that every time I attended a Doug Davis start in person the last time he was a Brewer, he always did well. That scraping noise you hear is me at the bottom of the barrel, looking for something positive to say.

I don't get the negative comments about Wolf. He hasn't been lights out but he's been plenty good enough. He wouldn't have given up any runs in that 3 run 2nd if Counsell hadn't misplayed the ball

Yeah, the turnout of Brewers fans on Friday and Saturday was GREAT. Seeing the jerseys and shirts all around the stadium, in the concourses, and on the Metro trains was enjoyable: much better than the results of the games and, especially, today's effort. For a team that was mentioned as a potential playoff contender, today

looked nothing like it. Perhaps 8-0 is an anomaly, but the early results are showing some big holes on the team already in mid-April.

 

The Nats fans didn't hassle anyone. Their opinion seemed pretty good compared to the Phillies fans who had recently been there. But it was biting to have them mention that the Brewers were playing like the Nats usually do. Plus the mention that the Nats are now above .500 for the first time added insult to injury. (Someone might have to fact check that, but I heard it from several different Nats fans.) And I could only nod in agreement when one said that we need some new outfielders.

 

Definitely need DD to lead the sweep avoidance tomorrow.

I did hear a few comments similar to what the Rev heard (about the Brewers looking like the Nats usually do).

I suppose it's possible this 6-5 record is the first over-.500 mark for the Nats. Have they really gotten out to a slow start every year since moving to Washington? You'd think they'd have been 1-0 at least once.

The Nats have definitely been over .500. Maybe they were just talking about this year.

 

Their best was 19 games over .500 (50-31) on July 3rd, 2005 beating the Cubs.

As frustrated as I am, it's worth remembering that this same team started 4-8 last year, then bounced back and was in first place on July 1st (IIRC). Hopefully our pitching down the stretch will be stronger than last season.

I agree with that part. I thought Macha actually did a pretty good job handling the bullpen and starting pitching last year (and it's not like he had much to work with). This year, however, some of his moves are really leaving me scratching my head (repeatedly using Narveson, barely using Parra, leaving Hawkins out there to fail, etc). It makes me wonder if there is something more going on that we aren't aware of.

Jeff Suppan was not "Jeff Suppan" in his first season as a Brewer either. Randy Wolf is 33 years old and has started over 25 games only twice in the past 6 seasons. He is also another guy that managed to have a career year in a contract year.

 

I have a feeling that going into next season, we are going to be wishing that his salary wasn't on the books.

The difference is that Wolf has pretty much always been a better pitcher than Suppan, though, with better "stuff" overall. The main difference has been that Wolf has had more injuries.
