Brewers, Weeks agree to 4-year, $38.5M extension with vesting option

Weeks and the Brewers have apparently reached an agreement!

Phoenix - The Brewers have reached tentative agreement with second baseman Rickie Weeks on a contract extension for four years plus an extension. There are still some details to be worked out but I expect an announcement sometime today.

I don't know what the total money will be. I'll pass that along as soon as I get it.

Woot! Looks like they got something done according to Tom H. Looks like at least 4 yrs and over $30 mil. Way to go Ash and Rickie. Let's play some baseball baby!

Pretty nice feeling knowing that every significant Brewers piece is signed through 2012 (Except for Fielder of course) and several are signed for even longer than that. Even with the loss of Fielder this team should be able to compete for the foreseeable future. Hopefully one of Marcum or Grienke is signed by the end of this year as well. Ideally the prospects we will draft this year and next year with the additional Fielder picks will be ready when the next round is needed in 2013-2015

A three year extension is the perfect length IMO; I am curious to see how the 4th year option is structured.

Huh? Did he mean one team/mutual option season?

But, YES!!

Last night at work I was trying to guesstimate what Weeks would end up getting. My prediction was 4 years $48 million with a team option for $15 Million with a $2 million buyout. Weeks gets locked into $50 million and the deal has the potential of being worth $63 million which beats the Uggla deal.

If it's any less than that I think Weeks will have given the Brewers a bit of a hometown discount.

Any guesses on money? I was thinking 4 years $32.5 million.
I really hope that number is right but I am guessing closer to 4 years 40 million

I was a bit off I guess.

I would love for it to be 4 yr/$32 mil, but I am going to guess 4/40 with plate appearances incentives making it possible for him to make 48 over that span.

Very good news. Can't wait to read all the derisive comments on the JSBlog bemoaning this because Weeks is 'injury prone'..... the Packers bandwagoners don't seem to understand that this is not football.

just heard 4 years / $30 million on 1250

according to Tom H: I'M GUESSING THE FOUR GUARANTEED YEARS ARE WORTH FROM THE MID TO HIGH 30s

Which would probably put the guaranteed part of the deal at 4/$38M. I'm guessing that option year is for ~$12M.

Too bad this is Pojols deadline day. Just got done watching a straight hour of ESPN Pujols coverage. Then I turned the channel because they were still on Pujols.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.
