An interesting thought would be if we could flip K-Rod + prospects to the Marlins for HanRam. Not sure what they would want, given they have talent everywhere and are simply underachieving, or if they would be interested, given Nunez's presence.

Not sure there would be a match but is fun to ponder especially given HanRam's deal runs through 2014. Sure would be dynamic with a 1-4 of Weeks, Hart, Braun, HanRam.

Hanley Ramirez was hurt and missed some playing time earlier this year. He started out very poorly, but has been on quite a hot streak over the past month or so. There was also that issue where he was benched for missing a meeting or something. Really not sure how amenable the Marlins would be to dealing him. He's signed through 2014, and I really doubt we have enough to land him.

Most definitely agreed. I don't think we have what it takes to land Reyes and I think HanRam would take even more to get given he is under contract. It was merely speculative on my part based on my belief that DM is searching all over for SS and we may end up with someone that wasn't on any of our radars, like a Hanley or Stephen Drew.

There are really no under the radar type SS out there. Outside of a few, they are either on competing team, are bad players,or are young and cheap. I was thinking of Yunel Escobar, but he just signed an extension. The handful of names we've been tossing around here are the only ones that seem possible. I'd be shocked if Florida sold low on Hanley, and considering how bad he's been this year, I'm not sure if I would be down for paying him $15 million per.

I saw that as well. Melvin also just did an interview on 620AM and he said he's still looking at more trades.

Rosenthal predicts an impactful player (insinuating it as offensively and defensively) but I'm not sure there's really anyone like that out there, save for Reyes who is just completely unrealistic.

I'm personally not in the Furcal boat as he's been hurt more than he's played the last few years, and this year is no exception. Not to mention he hasn't been good when he's actually played this year.

The Marlins are not going to trade Ramirez. And even if they did entertain offers, the Brewers couldn't even come close to putting together a package that could land him. Why would they be interested in someone like K-Rod?

The Brewers should just go for 100% defensive players at SS and 3b, since they are likely to be easier to obtain and not an offensive downgrade from McGehee and Betencourt so far this year.

I'd be absolutely thrilled to get him and wouldn't blink at 15 million a year.

He's walking nearly 13 pct of the time, and he's been hot as of late. For a guy as talented as he is, at 27 years old, I'd let them take any 4 prospects they wanted in our system for him.

Anyone interested in Cody Ransom? At 35, he is tearing up the PCL to the tune of .326/.406/.643, with 85 RBI playing mostly SS. Reno is a great place to hit but those numbers are impressive nontheless. I don't know much of his defense at short (though his .972 FP isn't horrible), but at worst, his bat would figure to be an improvement over the current IF bench combo.

I would guess he's just throwing out a random name, although he has played mostly ss this year in AAA.

I did hear Melvin say in an interview w/ the Homer show, that he is looking for ways to improve the bench. I guess he might be an improvement over Josh Wilson?

I know Brendan Ryan's name has all ready been thrown out there, but what if the Brewers took on another salary dump move and acquired Ryan and Figgins? Figgins has arguably been worse than McGehee but maybe a change of scenery would rekindle some magic. I can't believe his defense would've slipped all that much. I know he's under contract for the next two seasons at a pretty hefty salary, but I'd be willing to worry about that in the off season.

With the situation what it is if we're going to try an upgrade at 3rd I'd prefer more of a guaranteed thing than Figgins, but I think he could be had for not a whole lot. It would be selling low and admitting a mistake for Seattle, but they seem ready to move forward with their young guys. It would also give the Brewers some position flexability and some more speed which RR likes.

Sorry for getting off the original topic some.

I would still like to see the Brewers go after Ryan, but no thanks on Figgins. Let Jack Z. live with that mistake.
