2011-07-16 Brewers (Greinke) at Rockies (Chacin) - [Brewers win, 8-7, on Weeks homer]

This is pathetic. Would have been nice to use one of our two closers there. But instead we have just moved our "eighth inning" guy to our late in the seventh inning guy and we will let him lose it there. Pathetic.

If only the Brewers had 2 all star relievers in the pen...

Someone tell RR that Axford can go 1 and a third if needed.........
That was my thought. If you want to use K-Rod in the 9th, Axford can get you 4 outs. This loss goes to Roenicke. The guy never learns.

He is no Bud Black or Joe Maddon.

Wasn't the reason for bringing Dillard back up that he is effective against leftys?

Whoa, since when is a side arming righty good against lefties?

Roenicke just refuses to manage his bullpen based on the situation. He doesn't understand the benefit of using 3 relievers in an inning to get the right matchup. He almost never makes a mid-inning pitching change.

He should have brought in either K-Rod or Axford and used the other in the 9th.

RR has got to recognize his weakness and simply defer all pitching change decisions to someone else. He couldn't be any worse at it if he tried. Maybe Melvin can hire a guy simply for this purpose. In the NFL some head coaches call plays and some defer it to someone else. This needs to happen here.

some good stuff from Keith Law (ESPN) on twitter:

So other than typical role nonsense, is there any reason to use Loe here over K-Rod?

I have to give Roenicke credit where it is due, he is great at managing position players on the bench. There is still hope here, just need to get a sac fly.

And he just blew our whole bench. In a close game, terrible managing.

Well... that was ugly, but it worked.
