Dodgers interested in Aramis Ramirez

Posted

The Dodgers want in upgrade at 3B badly, and are eyeing Aramis Ramirez as one of their options.

Aramis has been heating up lately and has been solid in the clean up spot, but, if the Brewers to decide to sell, I don't see how trading Aramis would be the worst idea. His contract is hugely backend loaded, and now that we know Hart is solid at 1B and we have Aoki in RF, we could slide Gamel back to 3B and go without Aramis next year.

Thoughts?

If the Brewers get an opportunity to get out from under the Ramirez contract, I hope they jump at it. And if the Dodgers are interested in Ramirez, I wonder if they might be interested in discussing Greinke+Ramirez (+K-Rod... +more?).

Getting rid of that Ramirez contract would excite me almost as much as getting a good package back for Greinke. They'd have plenty of flexibility going forward if they could pull that off.

I really enjoy Ramirez, but if the brewers do start to sell, this could be another piece to try to stock up the farm. what players in the Dodgers farm would be interesting to get?

Obligatory Perfect Game LAD top prospects linkage. Note that #4 OF Alfredo Silverio has missed all of 2012 with concussion symptoms thanks to a January '12 car crash, and TJ surgery from the crash as well.

Honestly there's not much that jumps off that list to me, but if it's just for a Ramirez trade, I could see the Dodgers getting it done with an arm or two.

I will echo others here and say I'd be thrilled if the Brewers got out from under the Aramis contract

It almost sounds too good to be true. Really? Would the Dodgers be that stupid and would Melvin & Mark A actually be smart enough to do it?

From the Dodgers that I really like are Joc Pederson, Angelo Songco, and Chris Reed. If the Dodgers were to give up Gould for Carlos Lee I wonder if they would include him in a deal for Ramirez. If the Brewers could get Gould and Pederson for Ramirez that would be a very good haul for Ramirez. A nice starting pitcher and a toolsy OF would be a rather good return for Ramirez.

I want no part of Dee Gordon. He's fast but he doesn't really get on base to be able to use the speed, kind of like Gomez. But at least Gomez has some power and is one of the best defensive CF in the game. I'd ask for Lee or Eovaldi, maybe Gould. After that, I'm not really interested in anyone. Although I guess it would be nice to get rid of some of that contract, I still wouldn't give him away. Obviously the Dodgers have money so the contract isn't a big deal to them but I'd be willing to eat some of it to get a better player back.

Ramirez was added this year to compete with Greinke and Marcum still under contract. Through no fault of his own the Brewers are not competing this year. If we can unload him and his contract, you have to do it, no matter what the return really.

If they could somehow unload Ramirez and Weeks they definitely could afford Greinke.

I think they could sign him without trading off weeks, they'd be free of the 10/16 mil aram will be making and also could pass on Wolf's additional year of 10 mil, so thats 20 mil for next season free that could go to Zach, plus they'll have 7.5 and 8 mil free from Marcum/KRod. that third year they could allocate the 16 mil for aram and only have to "find" 4 mil+ more.

Would they do an Aramis for Hairston swap? The Dodgers have nothing to speak of for prospects.

loved hairston!!!

I'd be awfully disappointed if the Brewers picked up Songco. Living in Midland, Mi I've gotten the chance to see Songco first hand. While he has power, he hasn't hit for much average. When he got sent up he couldn't hack it and ended up getting sent back to Low A.

A-Ram's contract isn't ridiculously bad, but it's a contract the Brewers don't need. I would be happy to make a salary relief trade and just get something minor in return. Do the Dodgers have any young back-of-the-rotation types that could pitch in 2013 but aren't really high-upside prospects?

Doesnt Aram have a no trade clause in his contract? I could see him using it. One of the main reasons he chose Milwaukee was because it was close to his home.

Cot's notes he had one from '07-'10 with the Cubs, but no note on his contract with the Brewers about a NTC.

That said, I have no idea whether he actually got one from the Brewers or not.
