How much will this stretch of starts affect Greinke's free agency? Do the GM's already have their opinion of Greinke good or bad over these next 8-10 starts? Just curious.

Greinke hasn't been too stellar for the Angels so far. Over three starts he has a 5.68 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP.

I know its a little different with his cracked rib(s) when he was here... he started out really bad for us too, right?

But you gotta wonder, since Greinke is such a routine guy, if the move itself messed him up. Even his S.A.D. might be kicking up.

Greinke took a gamble in turning down the Brewers offer assuming it was in the Cain range. I doubt he'll continue to pitch this badly, but he's going to need to have some gems to offset what he's done so far if he thinks he's going to get much if any above that in FA. If he continues to to stink it up, he could easily cost himself $10 or $20 milliion.

Depends on the GM's who were thinking about making an offer. They're all people, and they'll all have different opinions on things. He'll probably get a monster deal somewhere, but I'd guess some big market GM's will be a little leery if he stinks in his only venture into pitching for a big market team.

I agree. his performance in LA could be used for GM's in other large markets to justify whatever offer they submit to him.

Maybe the Rangers were right after all to not part with Olt for a 10-15 starts of one pitcher. The production you wind up getting is almost impossible to predict.

Unless he finishes the season in complete Suppan-esque fashion, I don't think that Greinke's performance is going to hurt his value a bit, though the Angels may shy away a bit- especially if Haren continues his recent turnaround. Bottom line, unless ZG gets injured down the stretch, he's going to be the most sought after toy during the holiday shopping season. We all know how some big market teams love the newest, 'bestest' and most expensive toy...

If you're used car shopping for a $3000 Honda, and hear a rattle, you may not pay any attention and just pay the $3000. If you're buying a new $700,000 Bentley and hear a rattle, you'll pass on the car.

If big market GM's get any hint of an idea that Greinke falters because of his anxiety disorder, at least some of them will have second thoughts about offering him a Hamels-size deal. The last thing any GM wants is to have a Zito-esque contract failure. I still think Greinke will get a big deal, but I'd bet some of the big market GM's are watching how Greinke does in L.A. pretty closely.

If you are going to pay $700k for a car, you have them fix the rattle. But then again, most English cars have rattles... ;)

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

When the next closest model of car on the market doesn't even touch 6 digits in value, a person with near unlimited funds will still probably consider purchasing the luxurious item. Especially if it's replacing the persons 5th car in his collection that's a project car or has glaring signs of rust creeping in.

I just heard on 1570 up in Appleton that it was reported Lucroy talked to Greinke and he misses Milwaukee and wishes he hadn't been traded. I missed most of the segment, but I caught that part and was wondering if anyone else heard it or had seen it reported it elsewhere.

A co-worker of mine said he heard some similar comments on the radio from Hart this morning. Actually, not so much that he recently talked with Greinke, but something along the lines that he told him before he left that he was going to miss Milwaukee and that money isn't everything.

If Greinke were to come back, I would think that that would have to raise the Brewers' stock quite a bit when it comes to quality free agents wanting to, or at least be willing to, sign here in the future.

Good Lord, what a long sentence.

Well, Lucroy supposedly said on 1250 a while ago that he could see Greinke coming back. I don't put much faith in such stuff, but I guess it's nice to hear at least.

I agree and it is not like 1570 breaks news, they just report it. The way they made it sound was as if Lucroy had conversations w/ Greinke recently since his struggles with the Angels. I didn't see it reported in the normal places and a radio station shouldn't be 6 weeks behind.

Would the Brewers offer him the deal they offered in July? If so, yeah he could be back. I'm not so sure they will though. Gallardo is 6-0 since they dealt Greinke. He's clearly established himself as the ace. That money might be better put to use extending Yo.

Leave it to Briggs to use a one month sample to say a player has established themselves as an ace or a position player starter.

There's no reason to extend Yo right now. He's signed through 2014 with a club option for 2015. That takes him through age 29. At most we should only add a couple of years to that and in that case, why would Yo want to further delay his free agency?

I thought Gallardo clearly established himself as the ace last year, before clearly un-establishing himself as the ace earlier this year. Now he is clearly the ace again? None of this is very clear to me.

Gallardo is already under contract through 2015 if the team wants him. I see no good reason to extend that further.

Thanks for sharing this article. I did not see this. I love to hear things like this. Hart may have just become my favorite Brewer (along with Bruan). It's great to hear a player talk about "loyalty" and "playing were they are happy" instead of just about money.

Last month, Briggs was telling us the true ace was Fiers. I wonder who it'll be at the end of the season!
