2007 Vent Thread, Part 2

Being no-hit really doesnt matter. If the Brewers had 12 hits and no runs I'd be more embarrassed.

I think this is kind of funny actually.

Do you think most of these attacks are coming from fair-weather fans? Fans who just started to follow the Brewers when they started winning?

it's mid-june and the Brewers are in first place. Considering most years they are in the cellar, I'm still enjoying my first place Brewers.

On the contrary. Fair-weather fans can walk away when the ship starts sinking. I can't. Yes, I want to see a postseason and it sends me into a tizzy to see the ship start to sink the way it has been with a major creshendo coming tonight. I'm white-knuckling it, saying this can't be happening the way every non-Brewer fan said it would when we were 24-10.

I want to stay in first place.

I'd take a no hitter over a loss with another blown save or 1-0 loss. At least by the time the game was over the pain had time to set in and it became almost comical.

Really? I wouldn't. A team filled with my talent could not get 12 hits. A team with my talent could get no hits.

Sure, the Brewers are the laughing stock of the majors for the next 24 hours

You mean the last six weeks? Nothing says "punchline" like a team that gets off to a fraud of a hot start, gets people's attention, and then plays .333 ball for a month and a half. I couldn't quite hear sports nation's laughter from here until about 60 minutes ago.

But why do you really care about that? The fact is that they are still in first place. I guess I won't start seriously worrying until they're not.

To me, that's like saying, "My son's not in jail yet. I won't start worrying about all the warning signs and bad behavior until he is."

When something good is going terribly (god-awfully) downhill, I can't be comforted by knowing luck is the only thing avoiding dire, deserved consequence.

Still need to vent: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

EDIT:

Because I do. Shouldn't I? Baseball is a great game of numbers, interesting rules, countless years of history and stats -- a thinking man's game. It's also a sport. It's about civic pride. It's about pride amongst your distant friends, family, and colleagues. (I sometimes feel like this is a nearly foreign aspect of the game to Brewers fans since we've had nothing to be proud of in over two decades.) As sophomoric as it sounds -- baseball has to be partly about bragging rights.

It's about having a squad out there that represents you and your city and where you grew up. It's about your little small-market town competing with the big boys -- putting that small-market town on the proverbial map, being respected, and being legitimate.

So yeah, I care about outside opinion and public perception when the local team I love most plays like a laughing stock for five or six straight weeks and then compounds things by getting no hit by a guy with 1 career complete game, bringing even more national attention to our floundering ways.

I take back what I said about hitting rock bottom after Cordero having two blown saves in a row.

We have now officially hit rock bottom.

I have so many things to say that would get me banned here.

Man, I'm a poor loser.

I gave Verlander props somewhere, but now I'm just angry. After this I don't know how to feel. Seeing the celebration makes me want to drop a "I hope you suffer the same fate as JM Gold from here on out".

Ugh.......I am not happy.

Would it honestly make everyone feel better if the Brewers got one or two hits but Verlander still went the complete game? It's not much different than any other loss -- so what if it leads off SC and BBTN? I doubt much of the coverage is "HAHAHAHA THE BREWERS SUCK!"

Honestly, I feel worse about losing 2 of 3 to Texas than I do about getting no-hit by the reigning rookie of the year.

I can't wait to hear some of Ned's comments. If he throws out any of the usual, I'm not going to be happy.

I know it's not Ned's fault that no one got a hit but...let me guess Ned...

If we got one hit, I would forget about this game in a week or two. Now I will never forget it the way that friends from Minnesota have rubbed the name "Scott Erickson" in my face for 13 years.

A loss is fine, I'll forget about. A loss I'll never forget is much worse.

Instead, we can't fire him because we're still in first place.

There's my vent. People are "enjoying" their first place Brewers over the past few weeks? They won't be in first place too much longer, and that's really a shame looking at the competition in the NL Central.

Against a pitcher that would have made every team in the league look atrocious and laughable tonight.

Right, I forgot. It's just our bad luck again tonight. Out of his 45 career starts, this was the only time he had his "best" stuff. It has nothing to do with us, really.

He deserves credit. He did have great stuff. But I don't buy that any and every team would have come in to Detroit tonight and got dominated like this, much less no-hit. Some teams can actually rise to the occasion, and put together a decent offensive night against a good pitcher or a pitcher who has his best stuff working. Although I can see why Brewer fans might think such a feat is impossible.

No hits, one or two, whatever, I don't care.

We have flat-out sucked over the last month.

Yes, because then we could at least quote Major League:

"Let's see, no runs on one hit. One hit? One (explative) hit?!"

Since this is vent thread. GRRRRRRRRR. The Brewers are causing us all to yell.

Okay, I have a vent (horray for me):

I am sick and tired of people talking about how "weak" the division is. "Well, sure, they're in first place, but that's only because the division sucks", etc, etc.

Ya know what? It doesn't matter. Not one teenie tiny bit. I couldn't care less if every team in the division was 20 games under, and the Crew won the Central by 1 game...over the Pirates. The only thing that matters, the ONLY thing, is what happens after the regular season. Everyone and their grandma talked about how quickly the Cards' were going to be shown the door last year. 83 wins. Didn't matter.

Do I want the Crew to be 19 games under? Of course not. I'd rather they be 19 games over...19 games into the season. It's June, there's a long way to go yet. I still think this team has as good of a chance as anybody in the division to win it, then be a huge stick in the mud come postseason.

My first official vent. Geez I feel dirty.
