2007 Vent Thread, Part 2

I think you're overstating it a bit. Sure, the Brewers are the laughing stock of the majors for the next 24 hours, but after that, no one's going to remember who Verlander no-hit, other than Tigers fans.

Yep

I know Mark Buehrle threw a no-hitter earlier in the season,if you would have asked me 2-3 days later who it was against,i'd have had zero clue. The Brewers getting no-hit by a guy who was throwing 99mph fastballs,83mph changeups with great movement, and a nasty curve didn't upset me nearly has much as if some soft tossing 5 ERA type of pitcher would shut us down for 8-9 innings.

Then again, even though i'm a huge Brewers fan,i don't really ever feel embarrassed because of a bad baseball game by them.I've had some rough things happen in life that changed my perspective on sports,i can no longer take them so ultra seriously. At one time i used to get so incredibly pissed off from a tough loss by the Packers/Brewers/Badgers,now i simply get a little annoyed and then forget about it pretty quickly. Now if say the Brewers get into the playoffs, then maybe the non-stop swearing and throwing the remote could resurface during a bad loss.

That's the thing. We got no hit against one of the best young pitchers in the league. Justin Verlander is the real deal. If it was some shmuck who did this I'd be a little angry. But you can't get too mad when the guy was throwing 101 (according to espn) and had that amazing slider and curve going.

Tomorrow is another game.

A loss I'll never forget is much worse.

Heh. And something tells me we'll be consistently reminded when Verlander retires to much fanfare in 20 years and another 25 when he goes into Cooperstown-"Verlander pitched the first no-hitter of career against the Milwaukee Brewers on June 12, 2007..."

Not to get too optimistic in the vent thread but hopefully that'll get us thinking, "Huh. 2007. The year the Brewers made that surprising playoff run right before the championship years...."

Just wanna vent a bit on tonight's game.

Graffy - 4 Ks in 4 ABs

Jenkins - 3 Ks in 3 ABs

7 of the 12 Ks came from these 2 clowns. Man, were both awful at the plate, it was disgraceful and embarrassing.

a few of you said something to this effect: "I'm embarrassed"

Well, Verlander is an AWESOME pitcher. He is good. And he happened to have EVERYTHING working in his favor tonight. Curveball, off-speed, fastball, defense. What can you do? He is good and will be good for his entire career, unless he hits an injury truck (elbow, knee, shoulder) that wipes out some of his stuff (think Frank Tanana in the early 70s--when he came back, he was a junk ball pitcher)

I could see being "embarrassed" if someone like Kyle Lohse or some other cruddy pitcher did this.

I have no emotional issues with the no-hitter, because I'm happy as a pig in slop for Verlander. No shame in getting no-hit by a great young pitcher.

However, it's worth mentioning that we get shut down by tomato can pitchers all the time.

Wearing my heart on my sleeve since birth. Hopefully, it's my only crime.

there is shame in getting no hit. who cares if it was a young pitcher that is a stud. That means all your stud players weren't good enough. Not only did we get no hit, but we almost got no hit a couple weeks ago. This team is becoming real pathetic in a real hurry.

How much longer can we rely on the complete ineptness of the division. This team needs to get better and now. Yes Verlander is great and all but getting no hit is embarrassing. This team has been playing terribly for over a month. Obviously the fast start was a complete fluke and we cant live off that forever. I never ever want to see both Graffannino and Counsell in the lineup on the same day much less hitting 1st and 2nd. They are basically automatic outs despite getting a few hits against a minor league pitching staff in Texas. Yost continues to show his ineptitude on a daily basis. Losing 20 out of 30 games is just not acceptable yet Yost doesnt seem to be bothered at all. Its time for him to go and he can take Counsellino with him. Small market teams should not be paying 3 mil a year for the likes of these two and Mench who all suck beyond comprehension. Also Mark A shouldnt have forced Melvin to sign Suppan who is as average as it gets. 10.5 mil a yr for a stiff like Suppan is just plain stupid for a small market team and better not be the reason why we dont resign Cordero or Sheets who are all star performers not average scrubs.

If only Braun would have played instead of Graffanino, we would have for sure gotten one hit and would not have to be so embarrased today! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif

Being impressed with Verlander's performance and embarassed by the Brewers' showing last night isn't necessarily exclusive of each other. Verlander pitched fantastic, no doubt about it, but he isn't Superman, and while the no-hitter was much much more Verlander's doing than the Brewers', things like 7 strikeouts from the 9-1-2 people moaned about last night seem to indicate some connection to the Brewers' lineup if not the batting order. No-hitters aren't a one-way conduit. Hence the "embarassment" last night.

And a little this morning. I really got it on the train into work today with my Brewers' hat.

I'm going to reverse-vent here and state something to the effect of "when are we going to be done our fluky play?" It sure will be nice at the end of the year, when we're in the playoffs with a 90 win team and vent, "Boy, that mid-May thru mid-June stretch sure was a fluke! Imagine if we had played .500 ball during that time! We'd be a near-100 win team and have home field!"

I sure hope this comes true (well, at least the playoff part)

Two Tigers made the Web gems and not Ryan Braun? I'm outraged. Flabbergasted even.

All it takes is one good day to change the direction of the vent.

The Cubs get Weaver tomorrow....Lame. I wish the Cubs/Cards would lose when we win. Akthough it is nice that they continue to lose when we lose.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I'm just glad we're not leaving an abundance of runners on base anymore.

STOP STRANDING RUNNERS. God I hate this team. 7 LOB in 3 innings ... nice work, guys.

[ Those last two runs by the Tigers are totally and undeniably the fault of Ned Yost's infield shifting idiocy. The Tigers TV announcers are talking about Magglio's spray chart. Someone FedEx those mo fo's to Ned please. ]

Positioning is Sveum's deal...

and "mofo" is a abbreviation for a word that is banned here, making that word banned as well. I know, it's harsh, but that's how we roll...

I really do not like Ann Carol(hate is such a strong word that I reserve for the Cubs). Ricky Sexson hit a homer last night. No that is not a mispelling, that is what she said. If you are going to come in to the studio with bags under your eyes the least you can do is pronounce names correctly.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Yost having Prince DH so he can fit Graffinino into the lineup makes me ultra angry.

Edit: Having Counsell and Graffinino bat back-to-back while not taking any advantage of the American League DH rule also makes me hyper angry (maybe its the same anger as above).

Graffy's been raking, and he's a defensive upgrade. I guess I can see why Ned is playing him, plus it's nice to give Prince a half day off.

That's what you call playing and managing like losers. We load the bases with no outs and Graffy does the least acceptable thing in that situation, which is strike out. Of course when the at bat seemingly means nothing, he's Albert Pujols. Counsell has that intangible winner approach and drives one to the outfield to at least get the tie. He'll be a big asset once we make the playoffs for that reason. But then we can't get a hit with RISP and were 2-11 on the day. Just because conventional thought says you don't use your closer unless it's a save situation, Yost brings in Spurling to succumb to his inevitable demise against the reigning AL MVP; instead of using our best reliever to keep the Brewers in the game. We need to control the situations and score the runs when we know we need them, to take the lead, so we don't have to depend on Yost to use creativity he doesn't possess. Playing and managing like losers. We played great sabermetrically today.......realistically not so much.
