It is kind of like video games right now the AAA producers are producing nothing but garbage while all of the indie developers are making far better games.  The same with movies the major studios are just releasing garbage after garbage but getting praised for it by the media critics while the YouTube critics and movie goers tear them a new one.  It is almost like the media critics are afraid they will get black listed and won't be able to get early premiere tickets if they don't agree with the garbage.

Also how are these movies even getting by the test audiences?  Especially the Disney garbage.  Are they just picking people who will agree with them?  Seems weird that we went from fairly decent story telling and character building to brain damaged drivel in only a few years.

Do you have some examples? There have been significant differences between critics and movie goers for decades mostly in the action and comedy genres (see Bay, Michael).

DVD purge.

Borat - Starts out really really funny, but by mid movie, the humor fades to plain old stupidity.  Dumped this one.

Born on the 4th of July - Great performance by Tom Cruise, but this movie is a total bummer.  I hadn't seen it for so long that it all seemed new to me, but by the time the last 45 minutes started, I was losing interest.  A movie about the spoils of war, but falls flat the last 45 minutes or so.   Glad I watched it again, but this one is a goner from the collection.

Bourne on the 4th of July would be a nice addition to the Bourne Identity series.

Who is the test audience for Disney movies?  Kids, adults, both?

If it's primarily kids, I can see how the garbage continues as I don't think they really care about plotlines.  If it has funny characters doing funny stuff, I'm sure they are fine with it.  The fact that adults keep taking their kids to this stuff, says more about the state of parenting than anything else.  Stop throwing your money at stupid movies to entertain your kids.

Also, I think Hollywood in general (Not just Disney) has completely run out of ideas, and this is only going to get worse as time goes on.  Hence, the amount of remakes, sequels decades after the original, , etc...

More DVD Purge, still not through the Bs...

Blues Brothers - Classic and a definate keeper.

Body of Evidence - Keeping this one, still find it interesting, and lots of naked Madonna...lol

Boogie Nights - Thought I would dump this one, but ended up enjoying it enough to keep this time around.

The Book Of Eli - Not a happy movie by any means but I always like the post-apocalyptic stuff...

Bound - Another one I thought wouldn't make the cut, but decided to keep it.

Boondock Saints - Great movie, holds up still.  Keeper

Boondock Saints II : All Saint's Day - Not as good as the original. but still a keeper.

Saw it yesterday.  Well worth the time and a really good movie!

Another example of how absolutely oblivious and clueless I was just bopping through the 80's in high school and college...

You Gotta Believe

Saw this film today, and it was pretty good.  I wouldn't call it a classic baseball movie, but it had its moments.  Definitely a heart string puller too.

I saw Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 20% while the viewers gave it a 98%.  Why the big difference?

Critics seem to be pretty consistent with this director. His last five movies:

I've found that on most movies, RT has a wide disparity between critics and viewers.  Probably a difference between what people that study films are looking for vs. what audiences are looking for in a "good" movie.

Or it could be like the billion of draft ratings out there being done by people that aren't good enough to be employed by a team to do the actual drafting? 🤷‍♂️

a classic. I could probably recite this line for line today and I haven't seen it in probably 10 years.

Positive reviews also help maintain access to the industry you're critiquing. If you ran a website dedicated to children's entertainment you certainly wouldn't want Disney cutting you off from advanced copies and interviews.

Critic/Viewer divide also reflects the growing cultural divide between Hollywood and Average Joe. Seems that whichever cumulative review you trust more, Critics vs. Viewer, is a reflection on which side of the political aisle you sit on.

The only thing I'll say in defense of critics' scores on Rotten Tomatoes is that you know they've watched the movies.

Audience scores definitely suffer from an amount of review-bombing. Without looking, it's a safe bet The Acolyte has a lot of no-commentary 1* reviews or 1* reviews which only copy-and-paste comments made by Critical Drinker or Nerdrotic, because someone just wanted to jump on the hate though they never actually watched it, themselves.

That show is garbage.  Stopped watching after the third episode.  There is nothing positive that came from that show.  It is just absolutely horrible and deserves all of the hate that it gets.

This was awesome!

Probably even more so for those of us who lived it!

I was a Senior in high school, and remember it like it was yesterday.

I firmly believe that had Rollie Fingers not been hurt, we'd have won that World series.

If that movie is up your alley (and of course it would be for all of us) be sure to read "9 Innings: Anatomy of a Baseball Game" which is a detailed, drama-focused look at a single 1982 Brewers game.

My brothers and I (and now my son) get together and watch this every few years. Just brilliant stuff. It's stupid, but in a lot of ways, really smart (if that makes sense).

OMG, yes!  My dad introduced this to me, and it's one of the stupidest, funniest comedies out there.
