They need impact players and if they think these guys are impact players, fine. We all know WE have no clue about most of these guys...except where others rank them. And in that respect, not a great draft thus far.

I hope you like the new addition to the "F" grade. It's well deserved after what happened at No. 4 tonight.

 

This is an "F" grade all the way. Darnell Savage is a second-round prospect who may have snuck into the bottom end of the first round. There was absolutely no reason to move up nine spots for him. He, or someone very comparable to him, would've been available at No. 30 overall. I wouldn't have minded the Packers taking Savage had they remained at their own choice, but giving up resources for poor value is just a recipe for disaster.

Yeah, like I said, I'd seen him compared to Bob Sanders.

 

We really need to try and get Rodgers some weapons now.

 

Hopefully Arod can work with St Brown, a guy who we'd have likely been talking about had he not come out a year early or Scantling who had a really nice rookie year. Maybe they believe that they have a couple of guys who are really gonna make a jump there and they can still grab a guy like Brown from Okie in the 2nd round.

Yes...perspective. We have NO CLUE how good these guys are.

 

Still...it just feels better as a fan to get the top rated guys when we draft. It feels a helluva lot better to have a smarter GM than most teams and draft guys who make a big impact on the field, but that is gonna take a while.

I read that Savage was sneaking up boards this past week - so perhaps the Packers knew someone else would take him.

 

But just weird. If that was the case, there was other talent we could have gotten at #30 that would have made just as much of an impact - and we'd have saved two picks.

I've actually seen more than one write-up who pegged Savage's closest comparison as Nick Collins. They are very similar size/speed prospects. Savage is going to step in and be an immediate starter at free safety. If he can approach what Collins did, that's a huge win.

Yeah, that's not the problem at all. The Packers OL has been just fine. He takes hits because he scrambles after passing up the short underneath routes while looking for the big play.

 

That said, I'd have happily drafted Taylor...if he was as good as the experts said prior to the draft. Obviously teams don't believe that to be the case or he wouldn't have dropped.

 

The Packers OL is fine right now. Picking a Tackle would have been a succession plan to take over for Bulaga.

For those panicking over no OT yet, I'll throw out a name - Chuma Edoga, OT, USC.

 

Undersized (6'3", 308), but that was the knock on Bakhtiari (6'4", 299) and why Bak lasted until the 4th. Edoga has very long arms though (34 3/4") so he can likely stay at tackle, and only allowed four pressures all season last year. Highly likely he's still there in the 3rd.

He seemed to have a lot of helium of late. We will never know, but I’m not convinced he was going to make it until #30.

Reading up on Savage, I'm liking him as a player more. Got dinged by people due to his lack of size - but he's a guy who has just made plays.

 

I'm guessing the Packers knew someone would take him ahead of them at #30 - so they pulled the trigger on the deal.

 

I'm guessing a receiver in the 2nd. There are some decent ones who could be available. AJ Brown, Marquis Brown, K'Neal Harry, DK Metcalf, Irv Smith Jr.

 

Anyone of those guys would be good value in the 2nd round.

Are you trying to be a clown? If so, spot on. You mean Jaire Alexander wasn't "smart" last year while picking up another first round pick? Or MVS, St. Brown in the later rounds?

 

 

Lets not pretend you have any more clue than the rest of us. We know where these guys were mocked by experts(experts who had Taylor as a top 5-7 pick for example).

 

I'll wait to see what these guys actually do rather than whine about the picks on the night of the draft.

Well, they just signed a guy who can play both tackle spots, and they got Madison back from last year. But just about every team is a injured tackle away from having problems.

Probably because most mocks every year fall in love with certain position groupings in each draft and in turn undervalue really good players that don't play those overhyped positions. Gotta remember that mock drafts are put together by people who don't have jobs with NFL teams.

 

Plus it's almost assured that the Raiders are going to take a safety/DB with one of their next two picks, which would have both been before 30. If GB wanted to address safety and had their top player at that position on their board still available after it got to #20, mightaswell trade up ahead of Oakland to get him.

 

Plus, Savage is a good football name, was named the top DB at the Senior bowl, and ran a 4.36 40 at the combine...

After the Packers drafted Nick Collins right in front of Baltimore, Baltimore's GM called TT and congratulated him on the pick and said that Baltimore was going to take him with their pick.

 

There were rumors that Baltimore was really high on Savage after releasing Weddle in the offseason. History may have repeated itself.
