2021 Brewers Affiliates

There was an interesting note in the BA article about Frederick, listing them and Trenton as fallback options in case one of the 120 rejects the invite. Frederick especially is in territory covered by all classifications and would make for an easy substitution. I guess they're kind of like the bubble "first team out" in the NCAA basketball tournament.

Until last night, Ballpark Digest had Frederick as the likely Orioles AA affiliate.

We should learn a lot more about this by the end of today. First news of the day is Baseball America reporting that the Frederick Keys will become the sixth member of the MLB Draft League. Some had previously speculated Frederick would be the Orioles Double-A affiliate.

Im a bit surprised at this as the Keys provide a great experience and have good community support. Also helps they are an hour from Baltimore and would receive more rehab appearances than AA Bowie, which was closer to Baltimore.

Baseball America is also speculating that Frederick will be used as a back-up plan if other teams decline their invites to become affiliates:

The addition of Frederick to the MLB Draft League also provides a pair of “parked” teams for MLB that could fill in any holes that come open.

There is no guarantee that all 120 invited teams will end up signing the Professional Development License contract. If not all do, Trenton and Frederick have two viable facilities in convenient geographical situations that provide back-up plans in the case any East Coast team declines to sign.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

As expected it is:

Triple-A: Nashville

Double-A: Biloxi

High-A: Wisconsin

Low-A: Carolina

Thanks for the news update...

Hadn't seen it yet..

Any clarification on what league Carolina is part of (as part of Low A)??

If you go to a Nashville game, I recommend Von Elrod's for pre and post-game festivities.

Interesting to see Marlins in Beloit and paired with Pensacola at AA.

Also interesting: No Fresno and Colorado Low A is TBD.

Was thinking the same thing (re: Miami Marlins)..

I think we also see where Fresno ends up (w/ Colorado) if they accept the move to A ball level...

So if Fresno declines, the move is Lancaster back into affiliated ball?

Just noticed the Padres "replaced" the Brewers in San Antonio. Surprised they left the new digs in Amarillo, but San Antonio was their long-time AA affiliate, so I guess not a huge surprise by this.

Yeah, that's wild. Most of the High A teams in the East/South were already spoken for, and I guess the Astros wanted both A teams regionalized in North Carolina. Would've made more sense to get the Pirates into the MWL (Lansing, with the A's staying in Beloit?) and the Marlins in Greensboro, though the Marlins were there previously, and I don't think the relationship ended all that well.

I believe some of these types of changes could still come in the future.

I am really looking forward to watching High-A baseball in Appleton and Beloit going forward. It will probably take a little getting used to at first remembering Carolina is now the Low-A affiliate, but a good change for those that follow Midwest League baseball.

Also a much better situation for the Brewers now having Nashville back as their Triple-A affiliate.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Yeah this worked out great for the Brewers. New facilities in Biloxi and Nashville and they remain in Appleton which actually moves up a level. Looking forward to watching Mitchell there this summer.

They still are probably the farest away from the triple A affiliate compared to the other 29 teams. Its nice to be close to their double a and low A affiliate though. After playing in Colorado Springs for 4 years and a double A ball park for one, this must be like moving up to the big time though

Compared to past practice of affiliations the Brewers have to be pleased

.Nashville now has one of the best New stadiums in all of the minors a very good destination for Brewer fans to attend ,non stop flights from. Milwaukee and in the lower minors they keep well run affiliates that they had good working relationships with. Over all a win win for the Brewers

Nashville is a great town to visit. Great food, activities and night life that goes beyond country music. I'm 2 hours away right now and looking forward to heading up there for a game or two (hopefully). I still wish Rocket City could have been sniped for AA. Selfish reasons mostly. :)

It may be petty, but this is such delicious karma for Nashville. I didn't forget how dirty they did the Brewers when their new park was complete. Here's a brief synopsis...

The Brewers were affiliated with Nashville for 10 years from 2005-14, but the Sounds chose to end that relationship and switch to the Oakland A’s just as they were about to move into a new downtown ballpark, known then as First Tennessee Park but later renamed First Horizon Park. The Brewers were not pleased about that development after sticking with Nashville for years while it played in outdated Greer Stadium, which lacked many amenities that big-league clubs desire.

The bolded below is the part that really irked me...

Doug Melvin, the Brewers’ general manager at the time, termed the Sounds’ decision “very disappointing” upon getting the news and said that day,“We gave them 10 years there. A number of times, we had a chance to move and we were patient with them. We did a lot of the things they asked us to do.”

With no other viable choice at that time, the Brewers moved their Class AAA affiliate to Colorado Springs, where the often harsh climate made it tougher to develop players. After four years there, the franchise relocated to San Antonio, and Milwaukee made the move as well to affiliate with the Missions.
