The central is brutal. If the Brewers had any Offense I would say they had a chance to blow this thing open a bit. Unfortunately they are going to win one lose one win one based on who is in the lineup.

Realistically the Brewers are not going to be able to sustain this pitching all season. The offense is going to need to do something to help out. When your leading qualified hitter is hitting .216 that just isn’t going to cut it. You will hope they turn it around when Cain/Yelich get back, but that is putting a lot of pressure on those two.

Glad we haven't seen a lot of lefty starters if this is the lineup they have to put out there. This team needs some bats that work. I have no doubt the bad offense has an effect on the pitching needing to be near perfect.

Without Hiura doing anything it really leaves them in a bad spot not having any impact RH bats. I like their strategy of being able to load up against RHPs since the NL Central has so few LHPs, but it certainly leaves you susceptible on nights like tonight.

 

I know there aren’t many of them in general across baseball, but for as much as they like playing the matchups/platoon splits I’m surprised they don’t have any competent switch-hitters. They do have some at their lower levels now, however. This is the extreme example, but can you imagine what an impact switch-hitter like Jose Ramirez would do for this roster.

Just went to check what Eric Thames was up to and looks like him and Smoak are playing on the same team in Japan. He couldn’t have been worse than Hiura.

Agreed, But Bickford has options. Black didn't, which is why he isn't on the roster anymore. It wouldn't surprise me to see him back at some point, but they can't shuffle him back and forth anymore.
