I have very mixed feelings.

I think about 90% feel this way. Nobody wants to watch the Jordan Love/journeyman vet show, but I think most feel like this team isn't winning a Super Bowl as constructed. It sort of feels like everybody wants to move on but not live through the painful part.

It feels more shortsighted than most of what this team has done for the last decade.

Wake me up when baseball is over. And even then, it is going to be a struggle to get invested. Winning another ring is all that’s left to do, and the NFC North is not going to put up a fight, so nothing matters until December.

Of course, my entire strategy assumes there will actually be baseball this year…

Cool. Rodgers is back. They are gonna kick a lot of money stuff down the road - and the crash of the team could be pretty epic at that time. But I'm not complaining at all. We have a great QB who is at the top of his game. No distractions. Time to do the following:

1) Tag Adams and then get him a new deal.

2) Resign Campbell.

3) Restructure/extend deals on various players, including Alexander, Cobb, Turner, Z. Smith, P. Smith and probably a few other guys I'm not remembers right now.

4) Cut guys that aren't in the plan. That could include guys mentioned in #3. Lowry and Crosby are two others that might not be brought back.

5) Would love to have R. Douglas back - but with Alexander and Stokes, he might want to go elsewhere. Plus money won't be easy to come by.

6) Look at market for MVS and Lazard - see about returning. Not critical - but nice to have the veteran depth.

7) See if Love has much value. Consider trading if so. It's okay to keep him, but if he has trade value - might be the best move.

8) Have a great draft. So important for the future. Draft is deep in WR, DL, OL. We could land

No matter what you think of Rodgers or the deal, he's our guy for at least another 2-3 years. We've hitched ourselves to this wagon - lets run with it.

Let's start talking draft!

I know we didn't expect MVP level performances the last two years, but giving up a 1st+4th for Love sucks right now any way you slice it when Tee Higgins and Michael Pittman were the next receivers off the board and we desperately needed WR help.

I completely agree with this, while adding that I personally am more than willing to go through the painful part right now. I wanted us to trade Rodgers last year for 3 1st rounders if we could get it.

This move probably gets us the division, a top 3 playoff seed, and 0 NFC championship game appearances for each of the next 2 seasons.

Rodgers back means Adams is back...likely means Turner sticks around at least one more season and also at least one of the Smiths are brought back for the defense.

What I'm interested in seeing is if Rodgers' new deal alters the market in a way not by dollars / season, but by extended deferred payments similar to the route baseball has been going with mega contracts. I fully expect a huge dollar amount with monster signing bonus, but I'm guessing the parameters will be a 5-7 year deal to spread that bonus out for 2022 cap reasons even if he's not going to play that much longer.

Is there anything in the CBA or NFL player contract rules that prohibits some sort of an extended, deferred money contract? Something along the parameters of an annual salary while playing of $15M a season with performance escalators, and then once a player retires that contract would pay a player $5M a year in perpetuity?? These numbers are just examples of what I'm thinking could be the framework of a new contract for Rodgers - not saying he'd agree to a deal like that or even if it would be in the Packers' best longterm interest to offer a contract like that but would be interested if it's even possible.

The pick was understandable when it happened. Rodgers was showing signs of decline in 2019, especially in his accuracy. Obviously less so now. But you are correct. No one predicted Rodgers to go completely scorched earth on the NFL the last two seasons.

Yeah, in hindsight, Higgins or Pittman would have been nice to have around. But no one really knows how much that Jordan Love pick slighted Rodgers' psyche and put a huge chip on his shoulder. I mean, the guy totally bought into Lafleur's offense, and remade his body to stand up to the rigors of the NFL at an advanced age. The guy is famous for playing with chips on his shoulder and trying to prove his doubters wrong. Can't it be surmised that his play over the last two years is at least partially due to the anger he felt toward Gute and the front office for a perceived lack of belief in him?

Also, in looking at this season's upcoming draft in terms of available QBs, it wouldn't surprise me if the Packers wind up getting decent value if this news does prompt them to trade Love....but I can see them waiting until next offseason to do so assuming Rodgers is a Packer into 2023 and beyond.

Yes the Packers gave up a 1st + 4th....but in reality it was a 4th round pick and exchanging 1st round picks to move up 4 spots of that draft year. Hindsight is typically a perfect 20/20, but following the 2018 and 2019 seasons there was plenty of reason to look at Rodgers as a great QB on the decline. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to wind up getting equal or more value in a Love trade than what the Packers gave up to move from #30 to #26 in the 2020 draft.

I've heard that Love's trade value isn't high. He has some great tools - but he didn't particularly impress when given the chance.

That said - QBs are a premium. It just takes one team to think he's the answer.

If we can't get something pretty good for him, I would just hold on to Love. Another year. Another chance to impress.

If the Packers were to trade Love, what do you think he would get for a draft pick?

My guess is a 2nd round pick.

I would gladly take that if I were the Packers. I am guessing a 3rd and future late conditional is the top.

I agree that they probably aren't inclined to trade Love for at least one more season unless they get an offer they can't pass up - they really have no great reason to at this point. Love has gotten one chance to play an NFL game (preseason or regular season) in 2 years as a Packer with starting caliber players in the lineup with him. That game came on the road at KC - he didn't play well but he also wasn't a total trainwreck against what turned out to be an underrated defense who held some very good offenses in check over the next 5-6 weeks following that game.

Still thinking Love can be a good starting quarterback in the NFL - and he's going to have more consistent opportunities to prove that next preseason. After the debacle week 1 loss against the Saints after essentially giving all their starters the preseason off, I'm guessing this upcoming preseason will provide starters more playing time to try and get off to a better start when the games do matter.

Let the Off Season truly begin. Always love this time of year in the NFL. News around every corner. Excited A Rod is going to, most likely, retire a Packer. This is a good thing.

My guess is a 2nd round pick.

Numerous scouts around the NFL agree with you. A 2nd rounder seems to be the overwhelming majority of opinion. If I'm the Pack, I take that and run with it. This is an extremely important draft to grab as much young reasonably priced contracts as you can. Kurt Benkert, imho, is more than enough to work with as a clear Back-Up.

I'd be happy with a 3rd. I don't think anyone is giving a 2nd for Love.

You may be right. BUT, it doesn't really matter what we think I guess. Those working in the NFL seem to think a 2nd? I guess time will tell, eh?

I'm not a huge draft follower in football, but no question if I could flip Love for a second rounder this year I'd be all over that.

Considering the haul the Broncos are giving up for Russell Wilson, and the lack of perceived talent in this year's draft class, a 2nd wouldn't surprise me in the least.
