If Rodgers were back, Adams would have lots of reasons to not hold out. Rodgers would give him a season-long sendoff by throwing every single pass his way.

He kind of did that in the last playoff game... :embarrassed

Mark Murphy says the Packers are one of three finalists to host the NFL Draft (along with Detroit and Washington, DC). I think they are actually pretty well equipped to host between the Titletown District, the brand new expo center across the street (our extra sales tax never actually went away, it just switched from stadium to expo center), and the Resch Center (10,000 seat arena for basketball and hockey built in 2002).

I typically avoid events like this, but I actually checked out the draft when it was in Chicago a couple years back and had a lot of fun. My wife even enjoyed it, and she hates the NFL (she likes football, just dislikes the NFL, which I can respect).

I went to the draft once...

I’m fully at peace with whatever happens. If Rodgers wants to come back? Great, that will make games this Fall more exciting. If Rodgers wants to be traded? Great, let’s clean up the cap and start the re-build with some extra picks. If Rodgers wants to retire? Congratulations on a great career.

This is exactly how I feel. I just want the decision to be done so we can move on in whatever direction.

It was a day after a loss to the Vikings, but a week before Mccarthy was fired, but doesn't seem like there should have been much traffic then. Possibly a glitch or maybe a bunch of viking fans looking to gloat?

Interesting Packers Combine News:

NFL News and Rumors: Packers expected to talk contract numbers with Preston Smith’s reps at Combine

Last week, PFN Insider Tony Pauline mentioned that Za’Darius Smith is expected to be a cap casualty for the Green Bay Packers and talked about where he may end up once he’s cut loose. But what about the other pass-rushing Smith on the Green Bay roster, Preston Smith?

The seven-year veteran, who posted 9 sacks last season, is in the final year of the four-year deal he signed in 2019, with a cap number of $19.7 million this season. Pauline is told that the Packers want to keep Smith and will attempt to sign him to an extension with the hopes of getting this year’s number down. Both sides are expected to talk about a contract extension during the NFL Combine.

More Packers-specific intel from PFN's Tony Pauline, draft and NFL Insider extraordinaire:

Davante Adams sign-and-trade a possibility?

Davante Adams is one of the hottest names here at the NFL Combine, as the star receiver could hit the free agent market. Here’s the latest on what I’m hearing on the Adams front.

Last week I reported the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars are two teams that will be in the market to acquire Adams if he makes it to free agency. I can confirm this is the case, as both are among the half dozen teams who will make a push for the receiver if, in fact, he hits the open market.

The latest rumor making the rounds is a tag and trade scenario where the franchise tag is applied to Adams and then he is traded to the Raiders. Las Vegas would then sign Adams to the large deal he desires.

Yet the final decision of Aaron Rodgers is critical to the events moving forward and everyone is waiting on the quarterback. If Rodgers returns to the Packers for 2022, the expectation at this point is the Packers would work to get under the cap to franchise Adams with the intent of keeping him.

Should the Jaguars lose out on Adams, the expectation is they will turn their attention to a different Green Bay wide receiver, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who will hit the free agent market in a few weeks.

New deal coming for Preston Smith?

Packers pass rusher Preston Smith could have a new pact soon, as things seem to be moving quickly and smoothly. I would expect a deal on a renegotiated contract sooner rather than later. Expect more upfront money for Smith in 2022 in order to get his cap number down this season.

Quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers, Mitchell Trubisky being discussed at NFL Combine

During his press conference at the NFL Combine the other day, Denver Broncos general manager George Paton said the franchise would leave “no stone unturned” in their search for a new quarterback. Last night, the “no stone unturned” quote was translated by league people as a sense of desperation in the organization to acquire a quarterback as soon as possible.

Word is the Broncos are willing to give up a ton of picks for Aaron Rodgers, though that deal is looking less and less likely.

How disappointed will the blogosphere be when the Packers don't sign Amari Cooper?

They'll get over it when the Packers sign Will Fuller

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

with what? Its why I stay away from the blogosphere unless one can argue that the packers would be better off with cooper than adams. If they do let Rodgers and Adams walk, there is no point to pay top dollar for Cooper either.

The financials don't matter for about half the fans.

I see some reports out there this morning that Rodgers is still deciding where he wants to play and Broncos, Steelers, and Titans have trade deals in place if he decides to play for one of them.

Ha, well the longer this drags on the more of this we are likely to see. I am starting to wonder if playing for another team is more on the table than we believed, I mean if he is going to come back to GB what's the holdup? Maybe they want to get an Adams deal in place before announcing anything.

Florio can pound sand:

From Demovsky: "Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said this week at the combine that he hasn't gotten a single call about trading Rodgers and, per a source, this remains true: The Packers have NOT engaged in trade talks with any teams about Rodgers."

Maybe they got over a hundred calls. That's not "A Single" call and the Packers can parse words like Rodgers does.

Doesn't mean that they didn't give Rodgers the go ahead to reach out and discuss contract with teams and compensation for the Packers. Doesn't mean the Packers have to agree to the compensation, but that it's a starting point. The Packers don't have to start negotiating until Rodgers makes his decision.

Well don't rule out the fact that if Rodgers decision is to come back to the Packers, then from that point forward then the media will move on to other things. Aaron is an attention whore so this could drag out awhile. So far the Packers have done what they have to do, no matter what Rodgers decides, to get under the cap. If they trade Rodgers and let Adams go/tag&trade then they are close to being under the cap. All reports I have seen are that the Packers have had no discussions with Adams since the season ended. So read those tea leaves...

There's also this:

Matt Schneidman: "Contrary to an overnight report, the Packers have not lined up any trades for Aaron Rodgers, according to a source."

Rappoport also reporting that Rodgers is torn on where he wants to play and on the clip I just watched he didn't mention the Florio report as the source, so at least that side of this report could have legs.

Matt Schneidman: "Contrary to an overnight report, the Packers have not lined up any trades for Aaron Rodgers, according to a source."

But that wording is not inconsistent with what I posted. Yes, that is true that "the Packers" have not lined up any trades, it is Rodgers who is out exploring options for his salary and possible trade parameters. Heck, the reason the Packers haven't talked to Adams could be that Rodgers also wants Davante to be part of the package.

Posted
Also makes sense that Gutenkunst wouldn't be out saying "Oh yeah we're out there exploring trades right now." At least suggest that the team is doing everything it can to keep him as a better PR move if Rodgers does decide to leave--it's not our fault so please keep buying luxury suites! I presume Gutenkunst has had the trade offers from approved teams 99% in place for a while now.
