Sounds like a Jaire extension getting wrapped up in short order....will make him highest paid DB in the league while freeing up more cap space - pending announcement of another veteran WR in 3....2....

Looks like it frees up $6 million pending announcement.

I'm going the route of no more WR's are signed. No vets. In my view, it just doesn't fit at present and they literally just inked their vet: Sammy Watkins.

They need this flexibility to sign and maintain a PS and they'll need it for possible inevitable in-season injuries. That's my take. Other than the occasional FA signing in a try-out to shuffle the depth on the roster, I think we're done.

The Issue to me is that Watkins and Cobb are likely to miss some of the season.  That get's us back to Lazard and a bunch of rookies (rookies lite) if both are out for significant time. I think they kick the tires on a vet during training camp (or before depending on who is released early) just for insurance.

You certainly could be right here. I just tend to see that current WR room like I now see their TE room: The Packers probably like it more than the general public. We shall definitely see - lotta off-season left.

Julio Jones just makes too much sense in Green Bay for it not to happen...even if GB loves all the rookie wideouts they just drafted, WR is one position that struggles to get big production from rookies, and this team is built to win now.  Recent years are the exception to the rule, and Rodgers has a propensity to take a couple seasons to develop trust with inexperienced pass catchers.

I think Julio is done. I'd rather take a flier on Will Fuller's upside.

If the choice is between those two, they would have to decide which they'd like to have for 7 random regular season games and hopefully the playoff run if they are lucky, because that's all they'll be healthy for.

I mean yes to an extent but that's gonna be an issue with any veteran WR FA that's decent.

Right ... and also why they are still available and will come at a discounted price tag in May

Methinks they're creating cap space to either sign or trade for someone midway through the season in case of injuries.

Julio Jones may still be unsigned several games into the season.

I wonder if OBJ is waiting to sign because teams are waiting on his injury or because he is waiting to get through TC and sign with the best option for him (i.e. watching for any injuries/trades/cuts before day 1).

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Even if his ACL recovery goes perfectly, he's looking at not being able to play until November or December at the earliest. I doubt teams are knocking down doors to sign a guy who, best case, won't be ready to contribute until the stretch run.

OBJ makes no sense for the Packers this year, because by the time he's ready to play all the rookie wideouts will have established some form of pecking order in the Packers' offense.

If GB is going to sign another veteran FA wideout, the time to do so is now - I think there's just as important a role for a guy like Julio Jones to help get the young receivers feet wet and set an example for how to go about their craft in mini and training camps.  With Tonyan likley out about the 1st half of next season, too, I just think bringing Jones or a guy like Fuller in gives them veteran receiver depth - odds are one of Watkins, Cobb, or Lazard gets dinged up in training camp or early in the year, and mixing in a 4th veteran wideout provides depth at that position while the youngsters figure out what they need to do to be successful at the NFL level.

Brzic seems to be the most legit competition Crosby has faced. I read that he was the 2nd rated kicked in the 2022 draft class.  Only 1 kicker was drafted in April. If Crosby earns the job, I won’t be upset, but I don’t think he should just be given the job. Also it would be nice if he could be carried on the practice squad or Molson so there is an option if he struggles.

I was just reading a bit about Brzic today and thinking the same thing.  Crosby had issues last year (though holder might've been an issue) and his leg strength is visabily slipping.

I want the Packers to move on from Crosby primarily because he can't consistently generate touchbacks on kickoffs - the fact he had a bad year in terms of FG% makes it even more warranted.

Don't get me wrong, I think Crosby is toast. I was hoping they would bring in a legit contender for Crosby. i would have  preferred it to be a vet, but they went the undrafted FA route.  Even if Mason makes the team, its hard to imagine him kicking for the Packers in 2023 since he is a UFA. Probably would make sense to look at the future and see if this kid can kick, assuming he has a decent camp.

I've been one of the bigger Crosby apologists, and even I'm at the point where I'd like to see new blood kicking FGs and bombing kickoffs out of the endzone with regularity - particularly when cutting Crosby would free up a bit more cap space either for extensions or bringing in a vet FA at other positions
