JC Mejia recalled from Nashville……Gustave optioned…(Mejia now suspended for 80 games)

Suspected this was coming after Gustave was roughed up the last two games. Mejia has been excellent in AAA (0.84 ERA, 15 Ks in 10.2 IP). Excited to see what he brings, though I hope it's closing out a blowout. Stearns has already hit on Gott; let's see if he can make it 2/2 in offseason bullpen acquisitions.

Look forward to seeing him pitch 2 innings tonight unless the brewers have exactly a 1-3 run lead so they can use their 6th inning guy, 7th inning guy, 8th inning guy, and closer.

Up until these last couple of games I thought Gustave was looking much better this year than prior, striking out more batters. However, could use a fresh arm and hoping Mejia closes things out tonight with a 10 run lead.

I was excited about Mejia the moment they acquired him. Thought he'd be on the roster from day one. And given some of the pitchers who did wind up on the OD roster and how they performed, I'm a little miffed that Mejia was stuck in AAA. I expect JC to not only stick but to ascend into a high role fairly quickly.

His stuff seems solid from what I saw in Spring Training. Hard to completely look past his train wreck numbers with Cleveland last year, though.

As a starter, but not as a reliever which is what he'll be doing for the Brewers

That's true. Looking at his game logs, he appeared to be pretty solid as a reliever in a very small sample last year. It looks like he only pitched 8 innings out of the pen total.

Not a good start for Mr. Mejia. Stuff looks pretty hittable, when he managed to get it over the plate. Reds AAAA lineup was having its way with him.

I highly doubt he sticks around long.

Reds lineup isn't all that bad.  Stephenson is arguably the best young offensive catcher in baseball.  He's got a 3.4 WAR in his first 161 big league games.  Pham, Moose, Naquin, Moran and Drury are proven major league bats.  The Reds are 8-24 because their pitching staff has a 6.40 ERA and Votto is hitting .122

The guy the crew recalled, Trevor Kelly, kinda looks like a gas can. Am I missing something?

He was good at Nashville, but has been absolutely shelled at the MLB level.

Only 11.2 IP in the majors across two separate seasons. Not saying I expect him to be great, but he's been consistently decent across a much larger sample in the minors.

the brewers' 81st scheduled game since j.c. mejia's suspension would be on 18 august. barring any cancellations, he would be eligible to removed from the restricted list on that date.
