Could there be a worse last name for a pitcher than Walker?  Grant Balfour was pretty bad, too!

Homer Bailey.

I'm very much on board with the idea of Adames hitting 3rd (next year; I have zero expectations it could happen now) & finding someone to pair with Yelich in the top two spots. He would obviously have to severely curb the strikeouts, but I think Mitchell would be in the mix for that along with some of the people currently hitting in the top third of the order in Nashville. But it might take getting over the LRLRLR compulsion.

I'd be fine if they tried Frelick in the 2nd position and PH for him later in games if there is a scoring need and the opponent brings in a LHP to face Yelich/Frelick with Adames at #3.

The best thing would be for MLB to drop the silly 3 batter rule (especially as a pitch clock will address 90% of the slow pace issues) then it would be less of a concern, but since 29 other teams don't seem to have an issue with the LRLRLR thang maybe the Brewers could too.

Just tuning in.

Last night’s game was one of the biggest downers of the season for me. Not only did they let a 4 run lead get away, but it highlighted the dire straits the pitching staff is in now. Short starts and a bullpen that is showing that it has been overused to the point that even the otherwise reliable options are getting tattooed. Williams is pretty useless if they can’t get to the late innings with a lead or a tie.

It’s hard to see how the Brewers are going to string together wins when they are using bullpen games or starters on strict pitch limits in 60% of the games. Burnes is showing signs of wear too.

This team is not built to win games by outscoring opponents in higher scoring games. They might win one like that once in a while like they did last Friday. But results like Sunday and last night are going to be more common.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Mitchell really looked bad on that fly ball should have turned into an easy out.

Fortunately it didn’t produce a run.

I was at a game at Fenway Park in 2017 and the Red Sox brought in ABAD pitcher.
That’s Fernando Abad.
It looked funny on the scoreboard.

Here we go.

Houser did the best he could holding the Mets scoreless for 4.2 innings, and now it’s up to 5 relievers (most of whom appeared last night) to try to keep them scoreless in case the Brewers offense can break through.

I’m probably in the minority but I would be just fine if they stayed pat with the exact same 6 man rotation next year.   I don’t know if lauer and houser are still signed through next year or not though.

but they almost have to remake the whole bullpen.   Ugh

Adames with his first real hot streak since early in the season.

Might have to find a way to pull a 1-0 win out of this one.

I think the approach to next season has to start with an honest assessment of whether the pitching staff had an abnormal amount of bad luck this season, both with injuries and off seasons.

That goes for the starters and the bullpen. There are a lot of bodies available for the bullpen that have had some success but have missed significant time with injuries.

If the front office believes that, they can focus more on the offense and try to do what they tried (and failed) to do this year.
