Huh? Woodruff and Peralta haven't sucked....It was always going to be hard for our big three to be as dominant as they were last year.

you're supposed to read the words in parentheses too.

Woodruff went from a 163 ERA+ to a 124 ERA+. Peralta went from a 149 ERA+ to a 115 ERA+. That's suckiness compared to last year.

Again, our big 3 was never going to repeat their dominance from last year. And if you're going to classify Woodruff's season in particular as "sucky", then you're not living in reality. ERA is such a bad stat, too. Woodruff and Peralta's underlying numbers are actually quite similar to last year.

It’s actually harder to judge this years performance out of most years because the brewers were so good in April and may against a poor schedule when teams that were pretty bad or a lot worse than they would be later.

it’s skewed some numbers but all games do matter so you can’t throw them out.   But it became clear in early summer that the real 2022 brewers were the ones now.   Not the first month.  They were a fluke

Now let’s hoe that burnes last couple of months are a fluke    If he sports a 4 era next year we are done

I still wouldn't use the word "suck" to describe any aspect of Woodruff's season.

The bullpen is pretty bad too.    But it’s just bias at this point to not include the starters and just say it was Alexander fault.    Come on.     There is a bunch of blame to go around.

By no means is it Alexander's fault. He is what he is, a AAAA pitcher. It's the GM's fault to not acquire a modestly effective SP.

Did you not read that the OP said suckiness compared to last year? Both having 35+ ERA+ drops is the definition of suckiness compared to last year.

Pujols with 700 in his first attempt.

I would have had my pitcher throw at his head on every pitch, even in the 9th inning of a tied game, with the bases loaded.

I actually did. And solely relying on ERA to make that argument when their underlying numbers are mostly identical to last season doesn't convince me that "sucky" is the correct adjective to use here.

Forgot you're the person who thinks ERA+ is a dumb stat lol

so tell Dr Freud, this reluctance to use the word suck. . .what did your father do to you?  ?
Relatively, Woodruff sucked.

Classic Hader for the Padres tonight. He came in a jam in the 9th. Got 2 outs on 8 pitches then didn't come back out for the 10th despite only throwing 8 pitches. Dude just doesn't pitch more than 1 inning.

It is because it's still based on ERA which doesn't take batted-ball luck, defense, etc. into account. And you're the person that thinks xFIP and SIERA are exclusively predictive stats and say nothing about the actual quality of a pitcher.

So you are saying it’s Alexander fault the pitching was bad this year.

He started 11 games.  6 of them he gave up two runs or less I believe

11 games     That’s it

it wasn’t all his fault

It's actually good we're chasing the Padres now, as they have the more difficult schedule remaining.

Does anything think it makes sense to bring peralta back this year.  Just hold him out until next year.   What’s the point

Padres have lost 14 of 15 at Coors Field now. A little sweep at the hands of the Rockies would be fantastic.

We're still technically in the playoff hunt, so yes. And I trust that the Brewers appreciate how important Peralta is to this franchise's future that they wouldn't bring him back if there was a serious chance he would further injure himself.

Do we really need another pitcher that only goes two innings

the risk isn’t worth the reward in my opinion.    The brewers need to have these guys ready to go next year

I don't think there's an organization less apt to use a pitcher if there is a health question than the Milwaukee Brewers. So I'm comfortable with it.

I didn't get to watch today but I sure wish I had.  Lots of hits, lots of steals.  Bullpen game, 2 guys didn't have much success, 3 were wildly successful.  I had to spoil with the box score today. I think I'll go ahead and stream this while knowing the results. From the looks of it I need to watch this Perdomo outing and probably think about it a little.

The one-out walk Bush allowed, there wasn't much excuse for that. But other than that I thought he performed well; the run (unearned) came in on a bad throw.

Perdomo usually throws strikes so I guess they decided might as well attack early. That was a really, really efficient outing. He's also not a big strikeout guy, so if it's gonna be ugly at least you know it right away (see Colorado).

He gave up 2 or fewer runs in 4 of his starts. But how did you possibly misconstrue my saying: "By no means is it Alexander's fault."
