Very true. Mariners are the only MLB fanbase I can think of that can literally claim a more painful team history than us. They haven't even been to a World Series.

World Series Game 7 brought pain.

ANOTHER great game transpiring in San Diego. One of the best days for postseason baseball in MLB history. Too bad the Braves couldn't make a game out of it.

The byes were supposed to help the big boys get an easy ride to the LCS. Instead we’re on our way to 3 upsets. And the Astros completed what was probably the least impressive sweep of all time.

Anybody with any knowledge on probabilities new that was the case. The worst team in baseball would be expected to beat the best team in baseball 1 out 5 playoff length series. Since the teams in the playoffs are much closer than that, it's basically 50-50 each series. A top 2 seed only gives you a 12.5% chance of winning the World Series compared to a 6.25% chance if you don't get the buy. It's better nabbing a top 2 seed, but you're still 87.5% chance of not winning the whole thing.

Mixed day for Stearns. Tonight's outcome once again shines a light on the Hader deal and its failure re. this season. However, the bottom-two wild cards advancing does seem to vindicate his "bites of the apple" philosophy. The MLB playoffs is, indeed, a crapshoot. And one of these days, the Brewers will be the team that gets hot and goes all the way. Here's hoping it's next season....

The gap between the 1-2 and the lower seeds was less than regular season records would indicate. The Braves’ rotation was a mess. The Yankees have been mediocre for months. Seattle had the same record as Houston from mid-June onward.

The Dodgers were the true juggernaut but we all know San Diego has the talent to be better than their record and they rode the momentum of the wild card series.

No it doesn't vindicate Stearns. It condemns him. Philly would not have even made the playoffs had Stearns not torpedoed the team. That could have been the Brewers moving on to the NLCS. But no.

LOL @yankees/dodgers/(whoever) for their pathetic attempt at fielding a competitive bullpen... clearly they just don't want to win and have greedy owners who only care for profits rather than wins and championships...I'd say more but it's time to sleep,,,

Sure. Whatever you say, boss.

With the way Hader pitched with the Padres, there's little reason to think the Brewers get in if he pitches the way he did there with us especially the 2 week shutdown in August he had. Imagine the Brewers bullpen without being able to use Hader for 2 weeks because of his struggles and not because no save situation. Rogers was better than Hader post trade even though both weren't good overall.

The Phillies are a superior team to MKE. Wheeler-Nola-Suarez with a bullpen of Dominguez-Hand-Alvarez-Eflin.

Schwarber-Segura-Hoskins-Harper-Castellanos-Realmuto.

Not particularly close either.

Mets +180 point differential / Padres +45 ----- Mets get ousted

LA Dodgers +334 point / Padres +45 ---- Dodgers get ousted

Yankees +240 / Indians +64 ---- Yankees on doorstep of losing series

Braves +180 / Phillies +62 -----Braves get ousted

What is your point? That having no chance because the other team is better on paper only applies to us? Astros are the only team so far that actually went out and dominated the opponent they were vastly better than on paper.

Would hardly say the Astros dominated. They won 8-7 after being down 7-3 for much of the game. They won 4-2 losing 2-1 going into the 6th inning. They won 1-0 in an 18 inning game. That’s a sweep but hardly in dominant variety.

I was in the process of saying the same thing.  That series easily could have gone the other way.  It didn’t and sure the Astros swept them but they far from dominated.

Must be rigged. I was told all September there was no point in being the last wild card team. Our team would be garbage and would not go anywhere anyway.

That must only apply to us. Good thing the Phillies don’t have that mindset.

Yep.  Getting even the last post-season spot gives you a chance.

Robert Gasser: 137 IP with 3.94 ERA and  172/53 K/BB between AA/AAA in 2022.

Esteury Ruiz: 541 PAs of 332/427/526 with 85 SB/14 CS between AA/AAA in 2022.

We can only hope that it will pay off before too long. It sure didn't pay off this season.  Just  couple of more wins and .... who knows?
