The future of Am Fam Field

This happens all the time with corporations who lease office buildings.  If renovations or changes need to be done to a building an estimate is put in on how much it would cost to renovate or make changes to the building that the company would want.  The owners will then do the same assessment.

If you don't do this then you are just taking your renters word that it will cost this much to do a renovation.

Yep, I understand why. I was moreso commenting on the link that rondoman posting where it said the Brewers had never asked for any money

One would have to see the specific lease as to how "maintenance expenses" are defined. Making sure the toilets all work is one thing, keeping up with the Joneses in MLB is another.

"Also, improvements must be made in a manner consistent with MLB stadiums which "can reasonably be said to fall within the 'top' twenty-five percent (25%) of all such facilities, when such facilities are ranked or rated according to the quality with which they are repaired and improved," according to the lease.

Call it the "keeping up with the Joneses" clause."

So, far more than routine maintenace, working toilets, etc. it would seem.

There was nothing in the articles that I saw this morning about an estimate from the Department of Administration.  I would love to see that study.  It should be treated as a public record and should be posted online so the taxpayer can see where their dollars are going (maybe the Brewers will get a $400 toaster like those lucky ballplayers in Seattle did).

But as far as I'm concerned, I couldn't care if it is 1 dollar or 500 million dollars, time for the NFL, NBA, MLB and all the others to look at the billions they take in every year and get off welfare train.

Best way to solve the problem is to slap an average 5 dollar surcharge on each ticket ($10 if the Cubs are in town) and if the team sells 2,500,000 tickets per year,,,that's 2,500,000 * $5 * 20 years....raises $250,000,000 which should be more than enough if they don't fritter the money away (obviously the figures thrown around now are ridiculously high since it's "free government money").

Or else they could wait until the next big election (current lease doesn't expire for another 7 years) and put the 300 million on the ballot.  But that would never happen because everyone knows the voters would send it down in flames.

How long before the Packers get their hand out for some of that money also?

The Packers do get tax money, but it's just Brown County as opposed to the state, similar to the original 5 County deal of Miller Park

No matter your politics, your opinion on taxation, what to do with the surplus, I think the brewers and both parities need to figure out how to keep the brewers here long term. It’s good from an income tax revenue point of but also just the view of the city. Having 2 pro teams in the city gives the city a different view rather than others of similar population with one or none.
It was figured out how to do it for the bucks and now it’s time for the brewers. But just like with the bucks, I hope brewers ownership contributes similar to lasry and Edens since it does help the value of trh franchise.

Packers fans are so stupid they just willingly donate to the team in exchange for a piece of paper telling them how dumb they are.

I mean this is just false. Here's a good Twitter thread on the subject that I highly suggest reading, basically what it comes down to is Packer stock guarentees that the Packers stay in Green Bay, they can't be bought by another owner and moved to a different location. It also lowers the tax burden because there is such a demand for stock. While it is true that "owners" don't make money on that stock that isn't the chief objective of people buying stock, the main objective is to keep the Packers in Green Bay

Ask St Louis if they wish they could have done this to keep the Rams, or Seattle to keep the Sonics. I'm pretty sure those fans would have loved this option

And it passed a referendum

The Rays will have a new stadium apparently and the A's well they will have a new one in Oakland or Las Vegas.  Those are the only two teams that have a new stadium in the works.  I think the Rockies and possibly the Dbacks are probably up for a new stadium soon also.  The Dbacks have been unhappy with their stadium situation recently.

Just gross. Seeing a team want out of a 20 year old, BASEBALL ONLY, stadium is just gross.

Yeah, when teams were moving out of places like the Metrodome and Kingdome, more power to them. Those places were boring dumps that were bad baseball experiences.

But this latest wave of stadiums, particularly what happened in Atlanta, is just yuck. Taxpayers should be telling these teams to pound sand. It's not like the Braves were going to leave Atlanta.

Technically speaking they left Atlanta for a suburb of Atlanta :)

The Texas Rangers' new stadium is the biggest joke of them all. It looks like a Weber grill and has the charm of a warehouse. A perfect fit for Texas.

Atlanta I won't comment on except that the demographics of the crowd at Braves games looks a little 'off' if you are familiar with Atlanta as a whole.

Colorado and Arizona are both lease extension negotiations similar to Milwaukee.

Kansas City's owner is seriously pushing for a downtown stadium, but it's unclear whether that will lead to anything.

Tampa is probably going to get their new stadium soon, that will be the next one to get constructed. The A's situation looks like a toss up, if they stay in Oakland I think MLB expands to Las Vegas and whichever of Nashville/Charlotte throws more money at them. If Oakland moves to Vegas, MLB adds both Nashville and Charlotte.

What happens to the Sounds if Nashville gets an MLB team?

Same thing that happened to the Denver Zephyrs. They'll move to another city. Zephyrs moved to New Orleans.

I call the Rangers' new stadium "Wish.com Stadium" because it looks like it does while the concept drawing was this...

Whenever discussion like this come up, I feel like the intangibles of having various forms of entertainment in a thriving community is ignored. I want to live in, and am willing to pay, to live in a community that has lots of entertainment options, from parks, the arts, sports, festivals, etc., even if I am not a rabid fan or regular patron of some of these venues. I don't want to live in another version of Omaha, or Des Moines, or Columbus. The Milwaukee Metro area population rank is 40th in the country. We should be grateful to have a MLB team! Tax breaks are given all the time to various corporations (see Foxcon). Yes, many of these companies hire more people in the community than a MLB team does. But I would think the people they hire also want several entertainment options where they can spend their money.

Also, just want to confirm, this is a Brewer fan board, right?  Or did someone hijack the URL?

Hoping if this happens they move to Madison. I think having your AAA team close to your MLB team is a huge plus when it comes to creating fan interest in prospects.

It would probably be Charlotte or Montreal to get that AAA franchise.

Charlotte already has a AAA team. There's also only one minor league baseball team in all of Canada, so doubtful the Brewers would move their AAA team to Montreal.
