The rule is hitters eyes have to be up. Longoria's eyes were up.

Either way Longoria was clearly not ready and still getting set. Is the batter suppose to get completely set with his eyes closed looking at the dirt and then quickly look up?

This is the reality of the new rule. As the announcer said “The umpires discretion”…that’s always going to leave the door open for some fun times. Just like the NFL and what a catch is.

I've said it before... it was simpler when the batter held up his hand to get ready in the box.  Anytime you give the Ump a chance to make a subjective call, he will get it wrong eventually.
