I'm not going to claim to be an expert on their situation but it seems like the city was doing little to help keep the team and not just when it comes to publicly funding construction. I believe the A's had a couple different stadium proposals and the city blocked them from even purchasing the land. Obviously it takes two to tango in any deal but it seems like neither side ever really wanted to get anything done. And it certainly doesn't look good for the city of Oakland that they've already let two other major sports franchise leave in the last few years.

Three if you go back further with Golden State.  I believe the old arena was in Oakland?

I was only counting the Warriors and Raiders as the A's haven't officially left yet.

Ahh that makes more sense to my brain now.

Yeah I agree with this, basically nobody was fully committed to having the A's in Oakland. Which is fine. But maybe next time it will be Milwaukee who has an old stadium and an owner/commissioner who see a destination where the grass is greener. Loyalty is generally limited to a 30-year lease.

They don't care, someone literally said they don't need pro sports to have an identity.

Should be interesting to see how that goes for them. Why does anyone go to Oakland other than a sporting event?

I mean, is there really anything wrong with that statement? You need pro sports to have an identity?

It really sucks for A's fans, but also good on Oakland for not bending over and taking it from the billionaire owners trying to squeeze as much public money as they can out of the city.

Ugh. The thought of the Brewers leaving Milwaukee makes me nauseous. I think it’s really unlikely but definitely possible. We almost lost the Twins a few times in the late 90s and then the contraction fiasco happened. It was a hard time to be a baseball fan.

So with them moving to a bigger market in Vegas, will they become a spending team? I know the owners have huge influence in that department but bigger market, better tv deal I’m sure.

Is Vegas a bigger market? Sportsmedia watch has Vegas as basically the same size market as Milwaukee.

Yeah the thing about Vegas is outside of the valley there is really nothing.  You don't really have any small or mid sized cities anywhere near by.

I actually agree with a lot of this, but direct it solely at ownership of the team. I understand that teams will sometimes move and that sucks.

Maybe baseball should require an ownership change before moving a team. That would allow local people to try to save the team and if they can’t do it, the team is allowed a completely fresh start somewhere else with new ownership in place.

I've always thought that I'd a team moves, the branding and history of that team should remain. The moving team starts as an "expansion team".

Thus the Braves' history (and WS win) would be owned by Milwaukee.

Agreed. Team history should be tied to the city, not the team.

Oakland was always consider a pile of crap anyway, so no, nothing probably changes in their case.

Be carefully with that.

If your feeling that way then the A's items would revert back to Philly (they were the Philly A's before KC or Oakland) and the Braves history would revert to Boston (they were Boston prior to MKE or Atlanta).

No, the Braves would have changed their name with the move to Milwaukee, and those records would stay with Milwaukee.

Maybe the Brewers name would have come back 15-20 years earlier had that been the case.

Yes, what happens in that city stays in that city.

A's owners stink.

I was born in Nashville … it remains one of my favorite cities. I have loved the Brewers having their AAA team there.

With Oakland’s relocation to Las Vegas, I believe it increases Nashville’s expansion bid. Good & bad news … Good for the city, bad for the Brewers. We’ve had some less than ideal AAA host cities - Colorado Springs comes to mind.

If Nashville lands a MLB expansion team, where might Milwaukee’s AAA team be headed? I know it is impossible to know at this time - but what cities are possibilities?

Is it possible to bump an existing AA team with a good stadium to another city?

Will MLB simply place the Brewers somewhere?

I am going to assume it will be somewhere not in WI.  I don't see Madison as an even slight chance.  Probably just move Biloxi from AA to AAA and then find another AA site for the Brewers.  The Biloxi stadium is rather new yet and I believe fits into the AAA standard for a stadium.

The 2023 A’s are on pace for a -800 run differential this year

I can’t imagine anyone paying to watch them at home come September

I hope they move to Vegas to play next season

Vegas is unlike any other market because it is solely a destination city.  It's industry is tourism.  Every visiting team will have fans travel to Vegas, it's one of the easiest markets to fly in to from most major markets.  The "size" of the market is almost irrelevant because it's top 5 in most visited metro areas.

Is any city more tied to their sports team than Green Bay? And what does that actually mean?

Often, it's a case of the tail wagging the dog.
