Ken Rosenthal reported this morning that the Brewers are still in search of a bat, even in the wake of trading for Carlos Santana.

No specific names are mentioned but it's likely the Brewers are looking for a right-handed bat that plays in a corner position or at designated hitter.

Two names drawing a lot of interest are the White Sox's Eloy Jimenez and the Nationals' Jeimer Candelario, the latter of whom has become something of a darling of the 2023 trade deadline. At least eight teams are reportedly pursuing the player, according to the Nationals' general manager.

Who should the Brewers pursue in the next 30-ish hours?

As if a 37 year old Santana is the “answer” to a nearly entire lineup of sub .700 ops hitting. They better be looking for bats.

And Rowdy and Anderson returning from injury doesn’t count.

I would love to see the Brewers pick up someone like Alex Verdugo. However, my bet is that its someone like Tim Anderson.

Verdugo would be awesome.

I have a subscription, I don't want to copy-paste the whole section, but he did list off Jeimer Candelario, Mark Canha, Tommy Pham, Teoscar Hernández, Paul DeJong, Adam Duvall, and possibly Alex Verdugo as remaining available hitters and that the Brewers "figure to grab one name off that list."

Did I miss that? I must have missed that.

Thanks. My brain is a breakfast scramble right now, trying to hold 15 different ideas in my head at once.

No thanks: Canha, Pham, DeJong, Duvall

Maybe: Hernandez

Yes please: Candelario, Verdugo

No worries! It'd be easy to miss if you just start with the Brewers-specific paragraph as the list of players it references is actually in the previous paragraph.

For reference, here are some splits for the players in the Rosenthal piece...

Nice post. Hernandez definitely looks the most intriguing in terms of getting a lefty masher which they definitely need... but I think the offense needs a little more vs RHP too. Tough spot.

Looking at the splits, any of Canha, Candelario, and/or Teoscar would be really nice additions. Throw Pham in there as well if you think his "personality issues" are being overblown (I'll assume they're not, but I really don't know much about it). I have less interest in DeJong, Duvall, and Verdugo, but they'd probably still be welcome additions.

Helps us tonight and could really help us for the rest of the season. Love it lol

Even though we're out of the stagecoach age & it doesn't really make any difference it gives you a little more feeling of connectivity with us being in town. I assume the pertinent braintrust is travelling with the team.

Assuming however the cost for Candelario is stiffer than anyone on the list, save for maybe Verdugo who isn't quite as good a fit.

I shudder to think what he'll cost us...

Well, if the Angels have one of the best offers out, I think their best tradable prospect still in the minors, per Fangraphs, is a decent Lara comp. That would kind of set a ceiling on where the bidding is now.

I hope Abraham Toro stays in Milwaukee when Canha is added

Maybe Owen Miller goes to Nashville to get regular time before a potential recall when rosters expand in September

I'd think Blake Perkins has a better chance of being sent down than Toro or Miller.  Perkins hasn't hit much of anything lately.

I'd send Turang down. Miller's a nice defender at 2nd, Turang's isn't hitting...

The swing is nice, good bat skills, speed, defense, just seems to be pressing(like most of the team).

I agree with bf82, my favorite part of the Santana addition is hopefully not seeing Miller's name in the lineup.

Miller is a career utility man who had one tremendous month earlier this year. Unfortunately, CC can't help himself but to overplay guys like that which is my biggest gripe with him as a manager (guys like Miller and Hernan Perez). Then these players become overexposed and tend to be perform poorly
