Fine with this.  He was pretty good in Japan for 3 years and again in Nashville this year.  Can't be much worse than Andrews.

Good to have a guy to throw out there in blowouts.  Hell, a 7 or 8 ERA is fine in those situations as long as it's of the 1 inning/1 run variety.  Can't have the garbage that happened last night.

Nice, like him better than any of the options that were already on the 40 man.

Didn't even realize we had an empty spot this late in the season.

They never filled the spot opened by DFA'ing Souza.

Well @BrewerFan got his wish. Hopefully Vieira can pitch well and stick in the pen.

He's not eligible for the post-season though...right? There aren't any exceptions other than injury...right?

I'm just excited to watch a Viera, MeGill, Uribe and...IDK, throw Milner in there just to make it a little extra entertaining!

Correct.

A player who doesn't meet said criteria for postseason eligibility can still be added to a team's roster in the postseason via petition to the Commissioner's Office if the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing someone who is on the injured list and has served the minimum amount of time required for activation. (For example, a player on the 10-day injured list who has been on it for at least 10 days, or a player who has been on the 60-day injured list for at least 60 days.) Players who are acquired in September or after are ineligible.

Love Vieira's fire and competitiveness. The success of his call-up will all depend on where his body and his arsenal is this late in the season. He has been absolutely dominant at times for Nashville. He's been absolutely hittable for brief spells as well. So goes the life of a journeyman Closer. If we have August Vieira on our hands in September, he can be just as impactful as current Megill. If we have June Vieira...no bueno. Another high velocity arm (sits 99-100 with his heat) where location is key.

Regardless, absolutely thrilled for the man to get a September call-up. Hopefully he rises to the occasion.

I knew they could add someone if there was an injury, but with them optioning Andrews with no injury designation, would it still be possible to petition the commissioners office?

We're probably in trouble if we're relying in Vieira, but I'm just curious. It seems strange to me they'd leave a 40 man spot available. I'd have liked to see Gasser added to it or someone just as protection.

It's a low bar to replace a guy on IL if they really want to. If Vieira somehow became lights out the Brewers could say he is replacing Mejia and put him on the playoff roster. Or after last night's outing not seeing Ashby coming  back this season.

Do you know where Ashby's velocity was at?
