Curious if we see some AAA players around this week now that Nashville is done.

Not necessarily added to the roster (or even added for the start of the playoff roster), but just to have them around incase someone should be hurt this week or next.  Kind of a taxi squad like happened during the COVID seasons.

I can't imagine sending a guy home for the winter and then needing to get them back into town and ramp them back up for a playoff roster if someone gets hurt.

At least a couple in the house.

That’s silly. We’re going to hopefully have some meaningless games coming up here where we can get him some at-bats. Why exactly do we need Anderson on the roster? We’re covered at 3B between Donaldson and Monasterio.

Because Anderson is being dropped for black, he said hopefully.

The way some of the guys in the team were talking about rowdy he’s going to be on the roster.   Brewers love that clubhouse chemistry stuff

he just better hit when his name is called.      It’s going to be an ugly bench when we need a pinch hit.     Rowdy.   Turang.   Perkins.    Caratini.

They’ll add another player or two to the bench. Don’t need as many pitchers for a three game series.

Is there any chance that somebody other than Burnes starts game 1?  It seems weird to me that the Brewers have given the starting staff at least 5 days off between starts nearly all year long and then would switch to 4 days off literally right before the playoffs.

Like, maybe Peralta doesn't pitch again this regular season but starts game one, then Burnes and Woody for games 2 and 3 (if necessary) on normal 5 days rest.  I'd even be tempted to start Miley for the first time thru the order then bring in Peralta...or vice versa.

It's possible. But they're not getting cute with Miley in Game 1 to do it. Would probably be Woody.

The problem with getting cute like starting someone other than burnes, maybe woody, would be now it's longer before they are available for the next round, if you even make it that far.

That is really overthinking it. They earned the right to play their best by clinching early, not starting their #4 pitcher.

One of the things that could work heavily to the Brewers' advantage this postseason is the extra off-day added by MLB. Due to that, the Brewers would be able to have one one of their Big 3 start every game up to game 4 of the NLCS.

My way too early starting lineup on Tuesday (assuming we're facing a RHP, big if)

1. Yelich DH

2. Contreras C

3. Santana 1B

4. Canha LF

5. Adames SS

6. Donaldson 3B

7. Frelick RF

8. Turang 2B

9. Mitchell CF

Assuming Brewers win the first series in 2 games……NLDS starts Saturday ….so if we go 3 then Miley would have to start against Dodgers.

Final Wild Card Roster Prediction:

Position Players: Contreras, Caratini, Santana, Turang, Adames, Donaldson, Monasterio, Yelich, Frelick, Taylor, Canha, Mitchell, Perkins, Tellez, Miller (15)

Pitchers: Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Williams, Payamps, Milner, Uribe, Peguero, Megill, Wilson, Miley (11)

The Dbacks have 3 RH starters going in the series(Pfaadt is apparently game 1, I assume Gallen and Kelly will follow him). All 3 have fairly normal RH vs LH splits. Safe to say we'll use a LH heavy lineup where possible. Yelich, Contreras, Santana, Canha, Adames, Tellez, Donaldson, Frelick, Monasterio. Expecting a lineup something like that. They could go with Mitchell in the outfield, Tellez on the bench, Canha DH for better defense if they want. Taylor will enter the game as soon as they use one of their likely 2 LH relievers against Frelick or Mitchell. They also may roll Turang for defense or at the very least will use him as a defensive replacement late game. Bench spots I'm guessing Caratini, Turang, Perkins, Taylor, Winker, Miller...for 15 position players. If we had a 3rd catcher on the 40 man, I would have thought they'd have him over Miller to allow flexibility for pinch running...but we don't so that's out.

For pitchers, the locked in are Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Williams, Payamps, Peguero, Megill, Uribe, Milner. Thats 9 locks, probably 2 of Miley, Rea, Chafin, Wilson...with my guess being Chafin and Wilson. I would think Rea over Wilson, but he pitched a lot this weekend so I don't think he would have a shot.

This is cleaner. I fully expect Winker to get the spot over Mitchell...I'm not saying it's smart, just what I think will happen. I also think Chafin gets a spot over one of Miller/Miley. Having one long reliever makes sense, if we blow 2 games we are done so having 2 doesn't make sense. Whoever of Miley/Wilson makes the roster, will not be expected to pitch barring a probably 7-8 run lead or 4-5 run deficit. Also it's the playoffs, all the relievers can throw an inning a day as long as the pitches don't get too crazy.

I think it'll be business as usual for Turang. He'll start against RHP, be lifted if we're trailing late & his AB comes up, and be inserted in the late innings w/a lead if not already in the game.

Given the makeup of our batting order & his recent propensity to successfully bunt, he should hit 9th.

I will be upset if Taylor is not in the starting lineup for at least game 1. Playing Frelick or Mitchell ahead of him seems to be giving the lefty-righty factor more weight than who has been producing over the last two months. Without looking it up, Taylor has been one of the team’s best hitters since August 1, and maybe the very best.

I don’t think there’s much question that the first 6 hitters will be Yelich, Contreras, Santana, Canha, Adames, and Donaldson, and I don’t think it makes match difference if Yelich or Canha is in LF with the other is DH.

But I would be putting Taylor in RF, probably batting 8th just to split the lefties a little. I would prefer Michell in CF over Frelick because I think he’s better defensively and Frelick has been in a pretty big slump at the plate. Turang at2B and batting 9th against a RH starter makes sense if only for defense.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Taylor is slashing 269/309/545 since the all star break, even better in September...though he's sporting a high k rate. Frelick has a higher OBP during both stretches and is a better defender. I can see both sides of it. That said, it's hard to imagine Mitchell starting over Frelick. Mitchell is probably the better player, it's tough to justify giving at bats to the guy who hasn't seen much pitching. In limited at bats he hasn't looked good.

I don't think so. Neither of them will be on the starting lineup and Winker brings nothing in terms of defence and baserunning. Mitchell does. There are doubts about both surrounding how they will hit, but Mitchell has other skills while Winker relies purely on his bat.

Chafin has me torn. On the one hand, you are absolutely right that we don't need 2 long relievers, but maybe CC could use Wilson in more of a one-inning role and Miley in long relief? I am just not confident in Chafin in any situation. Chafin is a lefty though, and only carrying one (Milner) feels foolish.
