Unless they're ruling in the grasp, Love was not down and should be intentional grounding.

There was a receiver out there and I don’t think in the grasp is a thing anymore but hard to complain on that one.

Bak, Watson, Jones, Alexander all out. I don’t know what the number was after the restructure but Bak was due 17 million in new money this year, I have no idea what the FO was thinking, same guy as last year.

This was the first year they could have cut Bakh and you'd have had to believe he had VERY little value to cut him with a 40M dead cap. The way he came back last year, there wasn't much reason to expect him to be worth...such a massive dead cap.

Most of the new money was still GTD money, just paid out differently and I doubt they thought he was going to be less healthy. Even after a weird season in which he came back, played a couple games, missed a game, appendectomy and then finished the season playing every snap the last...what, 5 games?

Watson is The Paper Packer. He's made of glass. And the team has no choice but to cut bait with Bakh next offseason. That injury happened almost three years ago. Could be another loss today with all the key inactives we have.

He's missed 6 games out of 20. That feels a bit premature.

Jones missed 4 games each of his first two years.

Random thoughts …

How arrogant to hold some of our injured players for the Lions game - assuming we could beat the Saints without them

This would have been the year to acclimate to a new defensive coordinator - Green Bay will never win anything with Joe Barry

This past offseason would have also been the ideal time to move on from David Bakhtiari - he was a great player before his injury … he is completely unreliable now & he fails the “what have you done for me lately” test

This is a 4-6 win team - Love looks like a rookie today - he is getting exposed for his inexperience

New Orleans is the better team - no way we come back from 14 down

Very disappointing to see such poor execution early on

I'd guess they just blew it dead. If they said he was down...well...he just obviously wasn't. But sure, the last thing I'm upset about is if they called that 3rd and long a sack of INC pass.

???

Why do you believe they're holding players who could play out for the Lions game? I'd just about guarantee they're not holding out players for Detroit. Everyone knew the Saints were a very good defense.

I mean, we draft and draft and draft on defense and always talk ourselves into the idea we can be elite. The saints are what we should look like, and we’re not even close.  It is a stark difference.

Brewerfan,

Bakh had a 17 million dollar base salary for 23 (pre restructure)that was not guaranteed, yes it would have been a huge dead cap hit but he was cuttable and would have saved some cap space and got us out from under that contract. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they know more than we do about the knee but at this point it looks like the wrong decision. 40 million cap hit next season…

Until this drive I really don't think the defense is playing all that bad, especially against the run.

I don’t mean to say they’ve been bad. Again, complementary football is letting them down.  But look at what the Saints can do on defense.  They’re a top-5, dominant unit.  We’re not that.  And for all the resources we’ve dumped into that side, there really isn’t any excuse not to be.  That’s all I meant.

His base salary this year was 6.7M. It wasn't 17M.

I don't know if you're looking at just the cash paid out by year or what, but they didn't take a 17M base salary and convert all but 1.2M into a signing bonus.

They took the roster bonus and the Base and that doesn't add up to 17M.

I say if he can’t play, cut him, if they can’t trade him.Why waste a roster spot on someone that can’t (won’t) play, especially in a rebuild. MLF has zero control over his players, Alexander, Bak, Rodgers. The inmates run the asylum.

No...no bad. But you have really gone all in on the defensive side of the ball, so you're kinda hoping they're better than not bad.

That was an incredible catch by Olave and good coverage by Valentine. I guess if you're going to be without your #1 RB, #1 WRer, #1 CB and #1/2 OL...it's good to see what the young guys can do.

And what we're seeing is that...Joe Barry still can't come up with a scheme that'd confused a JV QB.

That 17 million of new money in 23 was brought up quite a bit in the discussion here last year, maybe some was roster bonus but of course after the restructure I can’t prove anything so I will let it go since I certainly could be wrong.

ok I looked 9.5 roster bonus and 5.5 base was converted to bonus. That’s 15, right? And weekly per game bonuses? How far off do you think 17 million is?

They haven't been bad, but any top 5-10 defense wouldn't be satisfied with the performance. Our expectations have just become extremely low as far as what we expect for a high quality defensive performance.

It's wasn't all new money is what I'm saying. He when he signed his deal he had...~64M fully GTD.

We also need to remember the Packers were trying to clear cap space to move Rodgers near record 40M and change in dead cap space(I think it was a couple hundred K below what ATL ate when they cut Ryan).

In any event...this year is making it abundantly obvious the Packers should be looking at LTs early in next years draft(or I suppose if there's a RT, take him and play Tom at LT). Walker is a nice player. I'd like to aim higher than nice. I'd also like to see them draft a Center early.

Alt, Mims, I don't care who. Love needs to start hitting some of these Deep shots. A couple of them may be the WRer not finishing the route or flattening out...that ain't the problem on every one. Or if it is, it's on Love to get it figured out.

Love just can’t throw a deep pass. He has absolutely no accuracy on those types of passes. All he can throw are the check downs. He never even leads his receivers, every pass he throws the receiver has to slow down or stop their route to catch the pass.

Jordan Love still reminds me of Jay Cutler when he was with the Broncos.  Good arm with some accuracy issues mixed in with some bad decisions.
