Discussion article about the city of Columbus, Georgia luring a Southern League team, most likely the Mississippi (Pearl. MS) Braves.

And while the Biloxi Shuckers won't be on the move, there was this within:

"Attendance at Trustmark Park in Pearl for Braves games has been disappointing at best. Of 30 total Double-A teams, the Braves were 29th in attendance in 2023 with 2,545 fans per game, according to Ball Park Digest. Only the Biloxi Shuckers, the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, had fewer fans per game in 2023 with 2,440 fans per game."

My goodness about Biloxi, what a visitor city destination, almost too many distractions to get seats in the ballpark, we've seen that in the highlight videos. Though I'm sure the Brewers aren't disappointed with the facilities.

When do most publications update rankings? Before/after spring training I use mlb.com the most because it is the easiest to access but it seems like it hasn't been updated since before the end of the season.

MLB Pipeline certainly pumped up the Brewers system back in August. They once again laud the system as The riser of 2023.

Here's their Six Most Improved Farms of 2023

Specifically Brewers:

Quote

Milwaukee Brewers
"This is the breakout system of the 2023 season." That's what we wrote back in August, and it holds up. Ranked 15th to start the season, the Crew leaped to No. 3 in the midseason rankings and should hold around there, even with the graduation of Sal Frelick. Jackson Chourio solidified himself as one of the top talents in the Minor Leagues (and now has the eight-year contract to prove it), while Jeferson Quero, Jacob Misiorowski and Tyler Black all joined him in the Top 100. Strong seasons from Robert Gasser and Carlos F. Rodriguez solidified that Milwaukee has quality upper-level arms, while Luis Lara followed the Chourio route of skipping the Arizona Complex League to join Single-A Carolina in his age-18 season (albeit with less power). ACC home run king Brock Wilken brought thunder as this year's 18th overall pick, and Cooper Pratt (a $1.35 million signing in the sixth round) could be one of the coups of the Draft. Milwaukee might be shedding salary in The Show of late, but if it intends to keep competing in the NL Central, this is the level of system it needs to maintain.

Bleacher Report updated their Top 100.

Here's the Brewers on the list:

MILWAUKEE: OF Jackson Chourio (2), C Jeferson Quero (34), RHP Jacob Misiorowski (38), 3B Tyler Black (73), LHP Robert Gasser (89)

Also, they had an 'honorable mention' - next 50 guys - and that included Carlos F. Rodriguez and Brock Wilken.

This video interview won't be everyone's choice to invest an hour-plus, but this extended chat with Wisconsin Timber Rattlers' Senior Graphic Designer (and so much more within his responsibilities) Nick Guenther was pretty cool in my opinion, so consider sampling this discussion. Plenty of insights into Timber Rattlers gameday, day-to-day prep work, off-season activities, etc.

Via the Wisconsin Front Office Page:

2023 marks Nick's 11th season working in professional baseball and 8th with the Timber Rattlers. Before joining the Rattlers, Nick was a video production intern for the Southern Illinois Miners '13, Indianapolis Indians '14, and graphic designer for the Sugar Land Skeeters '15. He is originally from the northwest suburbs of Chicago and graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a degree in Sports Television Production. During games, you can find Nick on the field or in the stands shooting photography and video. Nick also has a unique set of social skills that include laughing when he shouldn't, telling jokes in awkward situations, and saying "you too" when the waiter tells him to enjoy his meal. In his free time, Nick enjoys fishing, riding his motorcycle, and exercising.

If you visit, the guys catch up with each other and then the baseball career-intensive talk begins around the 07:00 minute mark.

The podcast was incredible.

Shockingly deep dive. Found myself rarely disagreeing with their assessments.

I think they have as good a handle on the Brewers system as any I’ve read or listened to.

Nice hearing they haven’t seen a system with as much 18-19 year old talent as MKE. I had thought that, so nice hearing it confirmed.

Also nice hearing our great scouting of Venezuelan talent confirmed with them saying we have no peer in that realm.

I’m even more pumped about the next 5-10 years of Brewers baseball than I was prior to listening to their podcast, and that’s saying something.

Just Baseball is always a refreshing and in-depth listen. Very much agreed there!

I appreciated the first truly critical discourse on RHP Josh Knoth. I've heard mostly (almost entirely) glowing things about his breaking balls etc. (Discourse starts 13:33). Aram didn't love what he saw. He feels the delivery is too short and compact (at present) and easily read by hitters. Thinks it's a major project. NE exposure so not a lot of high end competition. Felt he was hit fairly easily in the All-Star games. Feels he might just be a 'data darling'. He ranked him just outside the Top 15.

Found that very interesting. He ranked INF Oliver Dunn ahead of Knoth based on his: "...Dunn is already a Big Leaguer." In other words, despite Knoth's peripherals he has major question marks.

Excited to see these guys play! Woot woot.

Official in 2025:

Double-A Mississippi Braves announce move to Columbus, Georgia

With that, the Shuckers will be not only the sole minor league team in the state of Mississippi, but the lone professional sports team.

Pretty neat list of pro baseball teams by state (including independent teams)

I’m crap at linking, but it looks like Cream City Prospects on X/twitter confirmed the Brewers being at #2 in Baseball America’s Prospect Handbook behind only the Orioles.

Happy 20th Birthday to Venezuelan 1B/corner OF Yeison Perez.

A review of his B-Ref page shows getting his feet under him as a 17-year-old DSL rookie, a huge numeric breakout in repeating the island league, and then a middling-at-best first taste of stateside ball.

Does he open 2024 on Carolina's roster?

It is indeed true. Here's the 'Cream City Pro' Link as well:

That kind of improvement while drafting as a two-time division champ and two-time wild card... I'm not sure what else needs to be said for people that don't believe it's a well-run organization (which requires leadership and investment).
