still need a reliable red zone target. Watson ain't it.

I certainly would have entertained trade offers for him at the deadline.

I’m not a huge Love fan, but I thought it was a decent game for him. The first INT was a poor decision, but unlucky for it to end up picked off. He then got them into a chance to win it on a minute drive. The second INT is whatever….at least he threw the ball somewhere a guy may luck out and catch it.

O Line did a nice job today. Actually a decent game all in all. Something to build on at least.

Yeah, I’d agree with this.  I’m training my critical fire elsewhere after this one.  The defense going up against a hobbled QB and an offense that had no interest in throwing unless they had to, and we give up 200 yards on the ground?  Seriously?  The special teams?  Offensive line?

We lost in the trenches today.  Story of the season so far.

I haven’t seen a replay but that throw looked like it had no chance to me. When he threw it I thought they were trying to throw short of end zone  and break a tackle but looked like trying to squeeze it in to front of ez when Steelers were defending end zone with 7 guys. Either extend play or just lob it up for grabs Hail Mary like, it’s a tough conversion but didn’t seem like a good play call.

And it was probably directed to the last guy I'd want to throw a jump ball to.

That makes 3 games and 4 interceptions with a chance to win the game for Love. Broncos, Raiders and 2 today.

Calling today's a "chance" is being pretty liberal. They had 7 DBs standing at the goal line.

At the 15 or so there is definitely a chance. But just rewatched the last play and it was an awful decision to throw it there, one guy in front of Watson and 4 guys still around the goal line close behind him. Maybe you catch them flat footed in a hurry up situation but once they took the timeout that play was not there and that should have been obvious before the snap. Oh well…

I'd have preferred a play where they passed it to a guy around the 5 and set up blockers for him

5 is probably too close to the end zone. This makes more sense.

Based on that pre snap that positioning the last place you'd want to throw the ball is exactly where they did

Dallas threw short of the end zone in almost the same situation last week and got gang tackled quickly. A quick screen probably has better chance but just like a fade in the end zone everything has to go right. It’s a tough play to convert, just enough green before the end zone to give the defense time to react to pretty  much everything. Packers D would have found a way to blow it of course.

What do you think the record would be right now if we had a healthy A-Rod at quarterback instead of Love,

II'm guessing 6-3 or 5-4.

With this same exact group of receivers? Even then I think the 4 winnable games they lost, we win with Rodgers.

But we're no closer to the SB and...still have a litany of future issues(including massive cap issues we would have to cross over the next 2 years...also, no Reed...or is it Musgrave. One of the two.

Watson just seems to be 2nd round MVS

He's FAR more athletic than MVS. More versatile and dynamic.

But he ran fewer routes than anyone drafted from OSU or Alabama( in the last couple years from HS to College).

I don't think this is a Davante like situation where he breaks out in year 3 and become a true #1, but I think he's more than just a deep threat.

If Love holds it for another split second, I think Love can get the ball to Reed who's gotten loose to the pylon.

I think the plan was for Watson to run a dig there and try and find a crease where he can fight his way into the endzone...I guess. But I don't know what Watson is running and if the WRer doesn't do what the QB expects, it looks even worse.

Some thoughts on this game:

  • Love looked much better than his numbers.  One INT was lucky, many drops on the game.  Threw some nice deep balls, though I hold my breath on each one.
  • I spend a lot of time watching our middle DL.  Originally wondering why Clark looked like wet tissue paper to run through.  Early in the game, the DL (all of them) were jumping into some gap at the snap.  The result was leaving gaping holes that the RBs ran through.  I'm sure there is some defensive logic to why they were doing that, but it DID NOT WORK.   Later, they played more straight-up run D and looked much better against the run.  I'm thinking this is much more the defensive scheme than the players.  Fire Joe Barry please.
  • Reed, Wicks, and Musgrave are really coming on now.  They look great.  Doubs looks good, but plateaued.  Not much improvement from last year.  Watson... dude, where's my car? Really looks like an athlete and not a FB player. That saddens me very much.
  • Josiah Deguara - must have pictures of someone to stay on the team.  Really?  You can't even shift one foot to block?  You have one job.
  • Owens is starting to fit in better.  He looked lost in the pre-season.  He looks competent now.  Probably not enough to make the Olympics, but sufficient for now.
  • Gary has looked much less effective the last couple games.
  • First game where Dillon outplayed a healthy Jones.  Dillon has been strong lately.  I wonder if he can take some of Deguara's HB duties?

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."
