Had a couple nice seasons from a peripheral perspective in 2021-22, with his 3.41 FIP ranking 43rd among 126 relievers who threw at least 90 IP over those two seasons.

Didn't really strike anybody out (97 K%+, 97th of 126), but was decent at preventing HRs (86 HR9+, 76th of 126) and among the very best at limiting walks (65 BB%+, 13th of 126).

Seems like a pricey experiment - 2 prospects, plus $2.2m.   At least he has an option

Clarke signed a deal to avoid arbitration for $1.25M about a month ago.

Uh-oh, this guy better win a couple two tree Rolaids Reliever of the Year awards to justify trading long time BF.netcom favorite Cam Devanney.

Guess that means Adames is going nowhere, nobody else in the system to play SS next season in Milwaukee;)

Did we just potentially avoid another hiura?  If so, I am 10000000% glad for the sanity of this forum

Looks like the Royals needed the 40-man spot for Lugo, so the Brewers were able to get a solid-if-unspectacular middle reliever for a couple of non-40-man guys who are getting a little older and probably didn't fit in the Brewers' plans.

Fangraphs projects Clarke to post a 4.3 ERA with 0.2 WAR, with a 35.7% GB rate, and 8.63 k/9 to 3.14 BB/9. Nothing outstanding, but should be a decent option for one of the last guys out of the bullpen. Better than cycling through a bunch of garbage arms until we find one who sticks.

hmmm, I really liked Brady in Appleton.

I'm the first to admit I typically don't like these kind of trades as it always feels like we are just randomly dumping guys.

Both these guys seemed like they had a future to me, who is obviously not a scout, but damn...

Let me just say, as a resident Devanney Stan, in the very least they made this trade in the off-season. There is plenty of time to heal (sniffles). There is time to endure a full grief cycle (blows nose).

AND, the real winner in this deal: they didn't wait until the in-season MLB trade deadline. We all know how that would have turned out.

Let us pray.

I will also say, in regards to this trade:

With the 'loss' of Devanney, this tells me a few things about some other players still in the system:

  • The Brewers really like INF Ethan Murray (and so do I - very underrated player in all facets)
  • The Brewers likely believe in the bounce back season they saw from INF Freddy Zamora (played his best ball when it mattered most - especially, defensively)
  • The Brewers really like what they've seen from a healthy Eric Brown Jr. in the AFL
  • The Brewers really believe in their lower levels infield depth (so do I)
  • Let's not forget about one of my perennial favorites, INF Patrick Dorrian

They gain an upside reliever to throw in the Lab. They again trade from their depth.

Clarke’s remaining option basically gives us the whole season to help him find the right mix and groove. Can’t complain.

We may one day look back on INF Cam Devanney like INF Dylan Moore, though at least we’re getting a player in return this time. Good luck to Devanney and Ryan Brady.

This may open the door to a spot in AAA for INF Freddy Zamora, but he may still need to earn it with a solid spring. INF Vinny Capra’s our numero uno SS in AAA, I think.

Based on the Brewers’ valuing of defense, and the reviews of Capra at short, I’m guessing Yonny.

Yonny’s 2-for-49 Venezuelan Winter League disaster has me expecting nothing. 🤦‍♂️
