Jon Morosi, appearing on MLB Network, spoke about how the Brewers are waiting for Japanese free agent pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto to decide on a team. After that point, the Brewers could more aggressively pursue a trade of Corbin Burnes and/or Willy Adames.

This report matches rumors we have heard at Brewer Fanatic; Milwaukee appears to be shopping some of their expiring contracts but currently, there is no urgency in the negotiations and it's unlikely to see a significant trade before Christmas unless the situation changes in the next 48 hours.

MLB offseason is the absolute worst..... Market waiting on these players... So ******* boring!!!!!!!!!!

Yama decision isnt coming anytime soon.... Sounds like he may wait until close to Jan 4th deadline.

Yeah, MLB really needs to do something to make the offseason more exciting.  Waiting around weeks/months for these big FA's to sign every year (which of course also slows down the trade market) is an awful experience for fans and overall excitement in the game.  There has to be some way for them to fix this, right?

Yes, they need to set deadlines like NFL and NBA have... Or FA periods, w/e they have.

I think the report by Morosi is spot on. It is precisely what I have been saying for months.

By and large the entire pitching market is being held up by Yamamato. Teams that are in on Yamamoto are not yet looking to the trade market for an ace. If the Brewers are going to trade Burners, they are not going to do it without all of the possible bidders at the table.

I fully expect things to heat up in a big way in mid-January.

So there is a deadline for decision.  Jan 4th?  Push back Winter meetings, move up the Decision dates on the likes of Yamamota. The 2 don't work with eachother as stands.

Another terrible trade proposal from the biased national media...

Another catcher?  lol  With Contreras and Quero in the near future, this would not be too wise.  We have so many other needs.

Yup, stupid trade offer, but if it happened, there would be people like yourself, falling all over each other to be the first to find all the positive things about the trade.  Happens every time.

One thing we have here in plenty is company men...

What is the point of this post? If they made this trade, I can sure as heck tell you I wouldn’t be happy with it.

Honestly, at least it doesn’t seem like they are intentionally trying to shortchange the Brewers. They were still valuing Cartaya as a top 100 prospect. It is more just ignorance of the Brewers needs.

For foreign players yes.

Came in to say just this. On paper, that trade seems pretty good for the Brewers... until you look at what position Cartaya plays and what the Brewers actually need.

Or the fact that Cartaya is not good.

Anyone listen to the most recent Baseball America pod about the Dodgers? I think it was Ben Badler who mentioned that the Dodgers shouldn’t be done making moves, and suggested that they now trade for Burnes and Adames. He then stated that the Brewers should ask for Busch, Lux and any pitching prospect that they wanted in the system. He seemed to imply that we might be able to ask for one more in the deal too. With that in mind, how about Sheehan, Busch, Lux and Ryan for Burnes and Adames? I think I’d do this deal in a heartbeat!

Also…he raved about Busch. Said we could play him at 1B and he’d instantly be one of the top 3-4 bats in our lineup, and would be a top 15 player at that position in MLB from the jump.

I respect Ben Badler, but 2 years total of Burnes-Adames isn’t going to entice Friedman to give-up their best pitching prospect & best hitting prospect, 3 years of Lux & another nice pitching prospect.

I get what you’re saying. But, his whole point was that the Dodgers are clearly going all-in, so why not put the explanation point on it with a deal for both Burnes and Adames. It’s going to cost a team quite a bit to lure both of those guys from us. Busch is blocked in LA and Lux is coming back from injury. He didn’t mention Sheehan by name, but would the Dodgers really need him if they now were getting Burnes?

Also….he talked about the depth of the LA system. Said that the guy they’ve got ranked 18th on their team prospect list would be ranked #1 on the Royals team list and maybe a few other team lists. Thats crazy! Point being though….they’ve got so much prospect depth that they can easily do a deal like this and they’ll just replenish these guys with the next wave of prospects coming up in their system.

Ok, I just see Sheehan as an untouchable for Friedman. He’s a potential future TOR starter and as such isn’t going anywhere imo.

Maybe Frasso and Stone substituted for Sheehan if Friedman really is going for it, which I question since it’s definitely not his MO.

Posted

Yeah, maybe we’d have to substitute Frasso or Stone in for Sheehan in this type of a deal? And I agree….not Friedman’s MO to make a deal like this, so maybe it is just a big pipe dream?

So Busch would be a top 3 or 4 in OUR line-up?  lol  Doesn't take much.

Also, he'd be the exact middle of all 1B in MLB?  Again, is this what we are reaching for?

I want nothing to do with Lux and those injuries he is recovering from.  That ship has sailed.
